46th Annual Snowball Derby Just Days Away

261The end of the year is on the horizon, and the 2013 Racing Season is in the rear view. But wait!! The best has yet to come. The 46th Annual Snowball Derby presented by Jegs is just days away and the anticipation is at an all time high. The regular season has been stellar here at 5 Flags Speedway, with plenty of action, some first time Winners, some first time Champions, new track records, and of course, a few crash and burns along the way. Quite a year indeed. So why should we expect anything different at the Snowball? This year’s Derby is boasting the strongest entry list in recent memory. Seven Divisions of racing, over 700 laps of action. At last Saturday’s Snowball Derby Preview presented by Sit-N-Charge, 98 cars took practice laps. Race days are expected to triple that number. A complete entry list is located at www.snowballderby.com , as well as ticketing information and the like. (more…)

The Hobby Stocks would open up the Leftovers Classic with a 25-lapper and Donnie Ashford would lead the pack over Tim Powers and Kevin Durden. On lap seven the battle for sixth would bring out a caution as Patrick Williams and Eddie Kilbury came together to slow the field and leave Ashford to hold off Powers and Durden on the restart. Mike Stalnaker would find the line and jump to second by the time Dennis Williams’ flat left rear would bring the yellow out with just nine laps remaining. Ashford would have to hold Stalnaker off as well as Rodney Wright. Stalnaker would grab the lead after a few circuits after Ashford slipped up on lap 18 and Ashford left the door for Rodney Wright to finish second. Ashford would slip to third over Kevin Durden and Tim Powers. Stalnaker would also grab the Dirts 4 Racing Hard Charger Award. (more…)

Chris Madden Two For Two In Southern All Star Rain Delays

534774_173559259490329_410965370_nFAYETTEVILLE, TN— Two time Southern All Star Champion Chris Madden is going to start liking rain delayed races if this keeps up as he now has won his second rained delayed Southern All Star event of the year by capturing the 23rd Annual Blue/Gray 100 for the 4th time in his racing career.  Earlier this season with the Southern All Stars the series was at Volunteer Speedway when rain stopped the action on lap 17 with Madden on top.  The series came back three weeks later and Madden came out the winner of the that event, now he is back in victory lane one week later claiming the $10,000 first place check.

Madden who took the lead at the start continued to stay up front on the lap five restart as he showed his home track dominance leading all 100 laps and holding off challenges from Casey Roberts Early in the race, Jonathan Davenport, through the middle stages of the race and then finally a spirited battled with Don O’Neal late in the race to get the win.

Finishing behind Madden win second place was Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN,, third to Jonathan Davenport Blairsville, GA,, fourth to Chris Ferguson of Mt Holly, NC.,  who set overall fast time in White Performance Qualifying and fifth to Casey Roberts of Toccoa, GA.

Rounding out the top ten were Steve Shaver in sixth, Dennis Franklin seventh, Johnny Pursley eighth, Bret Home ninth and Ross Bailes tenth. (more…)

THE CRASH-A-RAMA SERIES RETURNS TO ORLANDO!

Crash-A-RamaBlack Friday has become a day full of shopping carts crashing and wallet-deflating craziness, but Orlando SpeedWorld has just the cure for folks who have been out in the shopping madness all day…. A night of motorized mayhem called Crash-A-Rama.

Yes, Crash-A-Rama returns in its traditional day after Thanksgiving time slot and this is expected to be one of the biggest and best shows yet. For the second time this year, School Bus Figure 8 racing returns or Orlando SpeedWorld, but the buses are just a small part of the action. Orlando Speedworld is, and always will be, the original home of Crash-A-Rama.
This is a traditional night full of crazy and unique-style races that time and time again give fans the entertainment they know and love. Started several years ago as a one-time School Bus Demolition Derby (that packed the house), track owner Clyde Hart figured out that he could have the buses race rather than destroy each other which would allow for them to be used multiple times rather than just in one Demo Derby. Eventually, more smash & crash events were added and Crash-A-Rama was born! As usual, this Friday’s event will focus on giving race fans something new and different will be sure to be one for the ages. (more…)

SAMSULA, FL – For nearly three quarters of Saturday night’s TBARA Sprint Car Series presented by Safety-Kleen’s 30-lap feature event at New Smyrna Speedway, Dude Teate looked as if he was well on his way to his first win of the season.

Unfortunately for Teate, a mechanical failure less than a lap from the finish of the race brought his car to a slow halt and allowed Ben Fritz to sneak by and grab his first win of the season.

Rod End Supply Heat Race 2 winner Johnny Gilbertson started on the pole and led the first seven laps of the race with Teate right on his tail. Teate pulled to Gilbertson’s outside at the end of lap eight and quickly pulled away from the rest of the field until a caution for debris bunched the field back together with 11 laps to go in the race.
