261The end of the year is on the horizon, and the 2013 Racing Season is in the rear view. But wait!! The best has yet to come. The 46th Annual Snowball Derby presented by Jegs is just days away and the anticipation is at an all time high. The regular season has been stellar here at 5 Flags Speedway, with plenty of action, some first time Winners, some first time Champions, new track records, and of course, a few crash and burns along the way. Quite a year indeed. So why should we expect anything different at the Snowball? This year’s Derby is boasting the strongest entry list in recent memory. Seven Divisions of racing, over 700 laps of action. At last Saturday’s Snowball Derby Preview presented by Sit-N-Charge, 98 cars took practice laps. Race days are expected to triple that number. A complete entry list is located at www.snowballderby.com , as well as ticketing information and the like.

The Snowball Derby has turned into multi day experience over the years, so here is a brief synopsis of what lies ahead next week. Monday night at 6pm, a very special edition of “In the Groove” will air on BLAB TV. (www.blabtv.com ) This show will feature Fox Sports broadcaster and “Mr. speed51”, Bob Dillner as guest host, along with our own Steve Stokes. Sprint Cup star David Ragan is also scheduled to make an appearance. Tuesdaynight, Tracey Goodson’s Beef O’ Brady’s on Mobile Hwy. will host the speed51.com radio show. It’s always a lot of fun, and many drivers attend. Wednesday night, activities move to the Speedway for the annual Cat Country 98.7 / WEAR TV3 Green Flag Party. The night will feature the Jack Links Qualifying Draw, live music from After Midnight, plus hot Chili served up by Packy Mitchell and gang, with all the proceeds going to the Miracle League Park. Admission is FREE on Wednesday night. Thursday, it’s down to business, as the track goes hot at 10am, and it’s hold on to your hat for the next 4 days!! A complete racing schedule can be located at www.snowballderby.com.

An enhanced Fan Experience will greet you as you enter the speedway this year. Be sure to visit all the vendors at some point over the weekend, as some FANtastic prizes will be given away. And be sure also to pick up a souvenir program from a Krewe Du YaYa representative. These books are a mere 5 bucks, 1 of which goes towards breast cancer research. Literally, there will be a flurry of activities going on all over the speedway grounds next week, of course, highlighted by some of the best short track racing you will ever see. We appreciate your membership in the 5 Flags Fan Club, and truly hope you can join us for another remarkable, …Snowball Derby!!
