Cody McPherson Charges to Win and DIRTcar Sportsman Series Point Lead at Brighton Speedway

BRIGHTON, N. Y. – September 22, 2012 – Sibling rivalry hit the track last night at Brighton Speedway as brothers Cody and Tyler McPherson battled to the end of the 35-lap DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series feature.

Cody McPherson jumped to the lead at the start of the race, having escaped a pile-up off the green flag. He soon faced challenges from his brother Tyler McPherson, who eventually passed for the lead.

However, with three laps to go, a flat tire in the front stretch took Tyler McPherson to the pits, and Cody powered ahead and kept first through the green-white-checkered finish. Cody’s win puts him at the top of the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series point standings.

Rounding out the top five are Martin Pelletier, series feature winner at Cornwall Motor Speedway Chris Herbison, Gary Lindberg, and Justin Sharp. (more…)

Eckert Shines During Thursday’s Open Practice For Keyser Manufacturing ‘Down & Dirty 100’ Presented by NAPA At Berlin Raceway

Teams Test Michigan Track’s Smooth Dirt Surface In Preparation For Historic World of Outlaws Late Model Series Event

MARNE, MI – Sept. 20, 2012 – Rick Eckert was reminded of another racetrack as soon as he took his first practice laps around the newly dirt-covered Berlin Raceway on Thursday.

But the defending World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion wouldn’t publicly declare the name of the speedway he likens to Berlin, a well-known 7/16 th-mile paved oval that has been transformed into a dirt track for this weekend’s historic $20,000-to-win Keyser Manufacturing ‘Down & Dirty 100’ presented by NAPA Auto Parts.

“I’d rather not say what I think it’s close to,” Eckert said during a break in Thursday’s open practice session that saw 20 dirt Late Models tour the unique, D-shaped oval. “I already told (Tim) McCreadie and he’s making all the changes to his car for that track, so I’m not saying what track I think (Berlin) races like.”

Considering the speed he flashed on Thursday, Eckert, 46, of York, Pa., has hit on a solid setup. He turned the fastest lap in three of the four practice sessions – and in the fourth, he timed second-fastest behind WoO LMS points leader Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky. (more…)

Drainage Issues Forces Punta Gorda to Cancel

Punta Gorda Speedway has no choice but to cancel the race scheduled for this Saturday Sept 22 due to massive amounts of rainfall in the past two weeks and the obvious problems with the drainage in the front of the property, caused by the new road that was put in. At this time, we do not have the answers to this problem since PGS is not the owner of the property, we have made several attempts in the last two months to get a solution. We were very excited about this weekend and the return of the TBARA, we were told a full field of 24 Sprints were expected with big names such as David Steele, Dude Teate, Rex Hollinger, John Gilbertson and many more.

The infield is flooded also but the track is dry so anyone that would like to come out to practice, we will have a Test n Tune night Friday at 4:00. The pit concession will be open with hot food, also the beer pub will be open. For the inconvenience that this has brought on all of us, it will be $5.00 per person to get into the pits for Test n Tune. A new shipment of tires are also available. PGS does not have enough safe parking this week for the race that was scheduled.  We apologize for any inconvenience.

The 5th and final Blizzard Series Super Late Model 100 is on tap this Friday, with what is expected to be the largest field of cars we have seen this year.So far, the list represents 12 states and Canada. Georgia driver, Bubba Pollard, by utilizing model consistency, is poised to be crowned as this years Blizzard Series Champ. But there are many story lines that have developed during this 2012 racing season. The fight to finish the season in the top ten in the points standings ranks high on any driver’s list. This insures at least a chance at a provisional starting spot in the 45th Annual Snowball Derby.

The Super Stock Division Title will also be decided this week, with Bubba Winslow coming in with a narrow 21 point lead over Randy Thompson. And in preparation for the September 29th “Whataburger Night of Champions” event, the West Florida Coatings Sportsman and Butler U Pull- It Bombers will be awarded double points this Friday, assuring everyone of a little extra drama on Championship Night. Swindell Commands NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Showdown at Eagle

Schatz continues World of Outlaws championship lead with 10th straight top five

EAGLE, Neb. – Sept. 19, 2012 – Sammy Swindell leads the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series in feature victories. He leads in heat race wins and in bonus points via qualifying.

Unfortunately for the three-time champion, he has faced a myriad of issues throughout the season and has come up against a hot streak by Donny Schatz as the campaign winds down.

On Wednesday, Swindell did everything he could to cut into the championship points deficit by earning qualifying points, winning his heat and leading all 40 laps to claim the NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Showdown in the Outlaws first event at Eagle Raceway since 2009.

“After Knoxville we just kinda put an effort into just going for it and that’s what we were doing,” he said. “We’ve had a few problems that we’ve had to work around with some stuff, some pieces. We’re back on track here now. Hopefully we can get through the rest of the year clean and we’ll just see where the points lay.” (more…)
