Keyser Manufacturing ‘Down & Dirty 100’ Presented by NAPA Sept. 21-22 At Berlin Raceway

SCOUTING BERLIN: Every entrant in this weekend’s Keyser Manufacturing ‘Down & Dirty 100’ Presented by NAPA Auto Parts at Berlin Raceway will have the same level of knowledge about the track – which is to say, none at all.

Berlin has, of course, operated as a 7/16th-mile asphalt oval since 1966. But the renowned Wolverine State speedway has been covered with more than 300 truckloads of clay for a historic event headlined by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, setting up a unique situation in which no one starts with an advantage.

The inside track on the $20,000 top prize in the Down & Dirty 100 on Saturday night (Sept. 22) will belong to the driver who most quickly deciphers the tricky layout – and several WoO LMS racers have already visited Berlin Raceway in hopes of learning something, anything, that will enhance their hopes. Niewiek Builds Lead in the Cometic Gasket Hardcharger Standings

Salem, IN (September 19, 2012) – Jay Niewiek, the 2010 and 2011 winner of the Cometic Gasket Hardcharger Season Award, has built his lead back in the 2012 Cometic Gasket Hardcharger standings after ten ARCA/CRA Super Series events so far this season. Series rookie Nate Caruth has closed to within two positions of catching Niewiek prior to the last series Northern event at Flat Rock Speedway, but Caruth wrecked ending his day early with a loss of ten positions while Niewiek tied his career high finish of fourth at the Flat Rock Speedway event on September 8th to claim the Lane Automotive/ISKY Racing Hardcharger Award after gaining nine positions in that event.  Caruth is still in second, but he is now 21 gained positions behind Niewiek.

Kenzie Ruston, currently second in series Championship points, is currently in third place in the 2012 Cometic Gasket Hardcharger standings with 37 gained positions. Fellow rookie competitor Travis Braden is in fourth place with 24 gained positions. Three time series Champion Scott Hantz is in fifth place with 12 gained positions. (more…)

Steve Dorer wins the FUPS 100 presented by A-Able Septic Service

Citrus County Speedway fans saw the racing action crank up Saturday night with time trial qualifying for the Florida United Promoters Series late models. 21 of the states top drivers and cars all took the fastest of their two qualifying laps, to help determine their starting position for the 100 lap feature. When all was said and done, it was a familiar face sitting on top of the field. Daniel Webster (33) set the fast time for the 2nd FUPS race at Citrus in a row, followed by Jesse Dutilly (30), and Steve Dorer (10) in 3rd. The top 8 drivers in the series then redraw for their starting positions. With the help of some young speedway fans, Jonathan Guy (42) had his lucky fan pull the pole position. He would have 3rd fastest qualifier and series point leader Steve Dorer alongside for the green flag. Guy would lead the field to green, and win the drag race with Dorer to turn one, but caution would fly for the stalled car of Jake Perkins (59) on the backstretch, before the lap was completed. Perkins had battled ignition problems all day, and an electrical short ended his night before the race even got started. (more…)

It’s More Than Oval Racing!

Jim Rouse, BRP Media (9-17-12) Ocala, FL – As the points paying season at Bubba Raceway Park begins to close we see that no division has more than 10 features scheduled through the season finale. A few of those divisions will come 1 race closer to deciding their champion; they are the RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks. Those 4 divisions will be joined by the first Figure-8 Race of the Bubba Clem Era!

Mark Whitener and Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. can make things pretty boring and 2012 has been no exception- they’ve won 9 of the 15 points-paying features held in 2012 with “The Magic Man” up 1 on Lloyd. However, those 6 they haven’t won have been won by 6 different drivers including top-5 points chasers Richard Ferry and “Cheddar” Christian Augspurger. Ferry held Lloyd off for 25-laps early in the season while “Cheddar” remembered a move Lloyd used to beat him and made full use of it as he beat Whitener by the nose of the car. (more…)

Buescher, Roulos Share Potential Defining Moment in Comeback

ARCA Racing Series News & Notes from Salem

(TOLEDO, Ohio) – After leaving Salem Speedway and the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic, Chris Buescher has an 85-point lead atop the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards standings, greater than any leading driver’s advantage through 18 races this year.

Immediately following Lap 48 of Saturday’s race, though, such a scenario might have been completely unexpected. Buescher (No. 17 Roulo Brothers Racing Ford) found himself caught up in a Turn 4 accident with substantial rear end damage, among other issues. Having taken the lead from Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell winner Chase Elliott on the first lap, Buescher had led every lap but found himself driving to pit road. He came back onto the track 15th, the last driver on the lead lap.

Buescher rebounded to finish second, though, passing Elliott with less than 10 laps to go to take the first spot behind race winner Tom Hessert. On a night when Buescher’s championship hopes could have taken a severe blow, he actually improved his chances and made the race one to remember. (more…)
