RAYHALL DOMINATES AT KINGSPORT, DILLON BASSETT CAPTURES THE FLAG

KINGSPORT, TN (Sept. 17, 2012) — Sean Rayhall dominated every aspect of the UARA-STARS 150 event at Kingsport Speedway this past Friday night, but it was Dillon Bassett who captured the checkered flag after Rayhall’s late-race misfortune. Bassett was followed to the line by Lee Tissot, Jake Morris, Ben Rhodes and Rayhall.

Rayhall topped the charts all day long with the fastest times for practice sessions and would captured his first career Sunoco Pole at 15.259 followed by fellow rookie contender Devin Jones at 15.289. Devin Jones would drop to the back of the field due to having to work on his car after qualifying relenquishing the outside starting position to Kingsport regular Zeke Shell. .   Shell would take the early race lead for the first 20 laps. After riding behind Shell, Rayhall passed the No. 97 and never looked back for the majority of the event.

The biggest incident of the night occurred one third of the way through the 150 lap contest when Devin Jones, Lee Tissot and Scott Turlington all came together in turn three. Tissot was able to continue on the lead lap, while Turlington battled damage from the incident most of the evening and never was a factor. Jones day would finish 3 laps down to the leaders. (more…)

Erb Survives Battle With Lanigan To Capture Pepsi Nationals At Federated Auto Parts Raceway At I-55

Illinois Driver Registers Second World of Outlaws Late Model Series Victory Of 2012

PEVELY, MO – Sept. 15, 2012 – Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., pulled off the rarest of feats on the 2012 World of Outlaws Late Model Series in Saturday night’s Pepsi Nationals at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55.

With one of the season’s most memorable drives, Erb outdueled Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., for the lead and survived a frantic last-ditch bid from the national tour’s record-breaking driver to emerge victorious in a raucous A-Main that was extended an extra circuit, to 56 laps, by a late caution flag.

Erb, 39, swapped the top spot four times with Lanigan, 42, during the scheduled 55-lap event, with the last lead change coming on lap 36 when Erb dived low in turn three and surged ahead. But the former DIRTcar Summer Nationals and UMP national champion faced tense restarts on laps 48 and 54 before celebrating his second WoO LMS triumph of 2012 and the fourth of his career. (more…)

Phelps Fends off Threats from Planck for First Super DIRTcar Series Win of Season

After Braving Friday’s Rainout, Phelps Comes out on Top

HOGANSBURG, N. Y. – September 16, 2012 – Jimmy Phelps faced an uphill battle on the way to his first Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Series win of the season Saturday, Sept. 15, at Mohawk International Raceway, battling seven-time titlist Brett Hearn for the lead and facing late-race challenges from small block standout Dale Planck.

After finishing 13th in Friday’s time trials before rain put a stop to qualifiers, and finishing second in his heat, Phelps drew the seventh spot in the grid. Hearn, with the pole at the green flag, took the initial lead, and kept it through a caution in lap 1 and restart in lap 5. Mario Clair pursued from second and Phelps was gradually working his way up the ranks. By lap 17, Brett “the Jet” Hearn was lapping cars, and Phelps had made it to second.

Phelps was just slightly better at maneuvering lapped traffic on Mohawk’s slick track Saturday and passed Hearn in lap 32, but Hearn refused to relinquish easily. He followed Phelps through the turns and challenged him when the second caution brought a double-file restart in lap 42, but just two laps later mechanical issues forced him to the pits and he was unable to return to the race. Schatz records fifth straight top-two finish to maintain World of Outlaws points lead

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. – Sept. 15, 2012 – Don’t tell PETA, but Craig Dollansky just knocked the monkey off his back.

Actually, he body slammed the figurative nuisance, which has riddled the snake bitten team during the past two weeks. On a brisk Saturday evening in his home state, Dollansky led all but one lap to claim the FVP Clash at the Creek at Deer Creek Speedway to earn his first podium finish in the last nine events.

It was Dollansky’s eighth World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series win of the season and it helped close the deficit on championship points leader Donny Schatz to 96 points with 10 races remaining.

“To win here tonight in front of one of my hometown crowds, just people that we don’t get to race in front of normally – family, friends and just a lot of great fans in Minnesota – it’s pretty awesome after the heartbreaker last night,” Dollansky said. (more…)
