Mavrick Varnadore Wins Second Late Model Feature At East Bay Raceway Park

September 15, 2012 – Tampa, FL – Four divisions were on hand tonight including the popular Fan Participation on Wix 100 Nights of Racing.

First up before the features was Fan Participation. Todd Ford picked up another win in his Ford Mustang.

The first feature event belonged to the Street Stocks. Thomas Pratt and Thomas Burnside won their heat races. For the Feature event, it was Pratt and Burnside making up the front row. When the green waved, it was Pratt taking the early lead with current points leader Eric Moon on his back bumper. But on lap six, Moon spun in turn one bringing out the first caution. On the restart, Pratt once again took the lead into turn one with Matthew Grissom right on his back bumper. A few more cautions came out but it was all Pratt as he picked up his first feature win of the season. Grissom, Dennis Wilson, Jr., Dorsey Strickland and Burnside rounded out the top five. (more…)

PJ Wiggins Memorial

Jim Rouse, BRP Media (9-15-12) Ocala, FL – Our very own Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds put on a 40-lapper in honor of the fallen PJ Wiggins. Alongside them were the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and the Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks.

The first order of business was our Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models 20 lap feature. A few cautions slowed action early on but Forrest Gough was fast enough to lead Carter Stokes and JO Nobles with 18 to go. Under a lap 3 caution Carter Stokes’ right rear went flat dropping him outside of the top 5, an unfortunate circumstance for driver #33. On lap 5 David Showers had troubles which cost him a top 3 spot and he would retire from the race moments later. David Ponder climbed the back stretch wall on lap 7 which brought the caution out again; fortunately Ponder was okay after his wild ride. Under caution Forrest Gough broke the rear-end in a heartbreaker for the driver who has had more bad luck than any one else in recent memory. (more…)

JAMAICA, VA (September 15, 2012) – Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsville, MD a former track champion at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway captured the biggest victory of his racing career on Saturday Night. He took home the $20,000 first place in the 33rd Annual USA 100. Francis then jumped the cushion and was forced to stop on the track before contact with the inside guardrail. On the restart, Lathroum picked up the lead, but a big wreck in turn four involving four cars changed the complexion of the top five.

Lathroum maintained the top spot with Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL and John Blankenship of Williamson, WV running in third. Lathroum built his lead over Pearson and Blankenship as the drivers approached the halfway mark of the race. (more…)

Tom Hessert Takes Second Career ARCA Win at Salem

Chris Buescher Extends Points Lead and Wins France Four Crown

(SALEM, Ind.) – After taking three races off after the halfway point of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season and effectively removing himself from championship contention, Tom Hessert’s goal was simple: Win.

That’s just what Hessert did in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic presented by Federated Car Care at Salem Speedway, leading the final 78 laps for his second ARCA victory.

Hessert (No. 52 Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet) was excited to win not only in a race supported by his primary sponsor, but also at such a historic track. He made clean start after clean start on restarts as the race wound down.

“I’m really into the history of our sport and hearing all about Salem and all of the guys who raced here, I’m glad I got to be one of the guys to go to Victory Lane here,” Hessert said. “The track just kind of worked out for us. We were all on the right tires at the right time. I knew if we could maintain with whoever was behind us for the first 10 laps (of a run), we could eventually inch away and that’s the way it ultimately worked out for us. Federated’s been our sponsor for the year, so it’s really, really cool.” (more…)

FREMONT, OH (9-15-12) By Brian Liskai  All it took was one very little mistake by Dale Blaney on a restart with four laps to go Friday at Fremont Speedway and Bryan Sebetto was there to pounce. But, Sebetto gave notice in the dash that he was going to be a force to be reckoned with on the opening night of the Jim Ford Classic weekend presented by All Pro Cylinder Heads. Sebetto hounded Blaney the entire distance of the six lap race and Blaney knew come feature time he would have his hands full with Fremont Speedway’s 2011 champion and the recently crowned Kistler Racing Products Fremont Attica Sprint Title (FAST) champion.
