Aaron Williamson tops Sportsman 50 at Citrus County Speedway

Inverness, FL – 23 Sportsman competitors started the night off with time trial qualifying around the ¼ speedway for their 50 lap feature event. After each driver took the fastest of their 2 laps, Patrick Thomas (25) was the man on top of the mountain, with a fast lap of 14.52 seconds. Following him were Mike Bresnahan (69) in 2nd at 14.58, and Brandon Morris (56) at a 14.61. After the fan determined 6 row inversion for the feature, the top three had their work cut out for them, now starting right in the middle of a competitive field. Mark Peterson (73) would benefit from the deep inversion, ending up on the pole position with Travis Hoefler (22) alongside for the green. At the drop of the green, the action was non stop through the field. Peterson would jump out to the early lead with Hoefler settling into 2nd. Behind them, the dash for the front of the field was on. The cars of Thomas, Bresnahan, Morris, George Gorham Jr (10) and Aaron Williamson (13) were all racing furiously to get to the front first. The first caution would fly at lap 18 for contact between Gorham and Craig Cuzzone (88), both would tag the rear for the restart. (more…)

Mario Clair Cruises to DIRTcar 358-Modified Series Victory

Series Point Leader Dale Planck Finishes 13th after Pitting for Mechanical Issues

BRIGHTON, ONTARIO – September 23, 2012 – After an intense battle for the top spot at Brighton Speedway’s DIRTcar 358-Modified Series race Saturday, “Super” Mario Clair managed to take the lead with five laps to go and keep it through the checkered flag.

Chad Chevalier charged ahead of pole-sitter Erick Rudolph for the early lead in the Applefest 100, but lost it after six laps to Carey Terrance. Chevalier clung to second for almost 30 laps, taking his chance at a restart in lap 36 to get ahead of Terrance. However, Chevalier’s second time at the front lasted only a few laps, Terrance gaining momentum and passing him again in lap 39.

Meanwhile, Dale Planck made his way from the eighth starting spot to challenge Terrance for the lead in lap 42. Terrance held on for several laps against point leader Planck, but Planck won out in the end, leaping to the lead in lap 47. Clair, meanwhile, had progressed from a 13th starting position to eighth place. (more…)

Blaney Survives Weather, Attrition to Claim Commonwealth Clash

Schatz garners runner-up honors to extend Outlaws championship lead to 114 points

SARVER, Pa. – Sept. 22, 2012 – Patience was key on a late, chilly and wet Saturday night at Lernerville Speedway.

Following a lengthy delay to the Commonwealth Clash, in which the program had to restart after weather postponed the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event during qualifying, a patient Dale Blaney was credited with his first Outlaws victory of the season as attrition took its toll on the frontrunners.

“I knew it was going to be tough for them to get it in,” he said. “We just put ourselves in good position and were fortunate enough to win one.”

Blaney inherited the lead with three laps remaining when polesitter Craig Dollansky, who led the first 32 laps, slowed dramatically down the frontstretch as his engine began to expire. Dollansky then putted around the 4/10-mile track to finish 11th.

He wasn’t the only driver to sustain a problem down the stretch. Fast qualifier Paul McMahan exited the track with five laps remaining with apparent engines woes while he was only a couple of car lengths behind Dollansky for the race lead.

Those two issues moved Blaney from third place to the lead to earn his second career World of Outlaws victory at Lernerville Speedway and the seventh of his career. (more…)

Lanigan Executes Dramatic Late-Race Pass Of Moyer To Capture Keyser Manufacturing ‘Down & Dirty 100’ Presented by NAPA At Berlin Raceway

Record-Setting Driver Celebrates Unprecedented Third 100-Lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series Win Of ’12 In Victory Lane Downpour

MARNE, MI – Sept. 22, 2012 – Darrell Lanigan’s drive to victory in Saturday night’s Keyser Manufacturing ‘Down & Dirty 100’ Presented by NAPA Auto Parts at Berlin Raceway was so dramatic, even he couldn’t hold back his excitement.

With rain pouring down on the Victory Lane celebration, the normally reserved driver from Union, Ky., was as pumped as the big crowd that watched him rally to overtake Billy Moyer for the lead on lap 95 and bag his unprecedented third 100-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series triumph of 2012.

“Unbelievable,” a visibly overjoyed Lanigan said after his WoO LMS record 15th win of the season. “Man, what a race! That car came on there at the end. I could just run wide open almost all the way around the racetrack.”

Lanigan, 42, appeared dead in the water after a lap-30 scrape damaged his Rocket car’s right-rear corner and dropped him from second to sixth, but he came alive with a late-race charge that carried him to a $20,650 win in the first dirt event since 1965 at the historic Berlin track. The renowned 7/16 th-mile paved oval was covered with over 300 truckloads of clay for the big weekend of racing. (more…)
