Nine Illinois Drivers Invade ARCA for 60th Southern Illinois 100 at DuQuoin Dirt

Kovski, Cooksey Comment on Late Season October 14 Fall Affair

(TOLEDO, Ohio) – The interest from the Illinois locals is still steady and strong as the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards steers back towards the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds for the 60th running of the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care Sunday afternoon, October 14.  Originally scheduled for Labor Day, the renowned stock car classic was rained out and rescheduled much deeper in the ARCA season, right in front of the season finale at Kansas Speedway October 19.  Currently, nine drivers from Illinois are entered at DuQuoin, including Springfield’s Kelly Kovski, who’s searching for his career-first win on the one-mile fairgrounds oval.

Kovski likes the idea of running during the cooler fall season rather than in the oppressive heat of late summer.  “The track’s going to be different going back in the fall, and I think that will provide an opportunity for a guy like me,” Kovski said.  “That’s the fun of dirt track racing, keeping up with the changing track conditions, and being able to read it right.  “Ken Schrader always told me (about running the ARCA dirt tracks), ‘you don’t know what you have until the race is over,’ and it’s the truth. So you come back each year and hope you took good notes from last year.  “I’m going back with a little different state of mind – set up-wise. I’m not running for points, so I’ve got nothing to lose, so I can gamble and get outside the box a little.”  Kovski’s career-best ARCA finishes were a pair of fourth-place runs at DuQuoin in 2011 and most recently on the Springfield mile dirt in late August. Winchester, IN (September 23, 2012) – Close finishes, drivers fighting for close point championships were every position counts, a driver solidifying an already strong point lead and racing that proved again Winchester Speedway can be unforgiving were the results from the rain delayed makeup of the World Stock Car Festival on Sunday. Originally scheduled for Labor Day Weekend Winchester Speedway hosted five series on September 23 including the ARCA/CRA Super Series, Top Speed Fabrication CRA Late Model Sportsman, and CRA Street Stocks.

Two time ARCA/CRA Super Series Champion Johnny VanDoorn came into the Winchester 100 tied for the most Super Series wins at Winchester Speedway with three and a commanding lead in the season point championship as he is racing to tie Scott Hantz for the most Championships. It’s Wide Open Now

This week is Night Of A Thousands and the Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars, Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators will all race for that big prize.

In a season of change for the Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars we see that Matt Kurtz has been the dominant driver of 2012 while Ryan Partin has used conistency to stick within 32 points of the youngster. AJ Maddox took a big win earlier in 2012 and sits 3rd in the standings but he’s 42 behind Partin! Mark Ruel, Jr. and Danny Martin, Jr. have also broken into Coors Light Winner’s Circle and there are plenty of other drivers who could do the same. Watch as Partin, the 2010 champion, chases down young Kurtz and see if driver #92 can hold on!

So, with 10 feature wins, 2 runner-up finishes, and 3 DNFs (2 while leading) in just 15 events it’s pretty safe to say Kyle Bronson can wheel a Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds machine. As he chases down the title in the Hammond Motorsports #40B you have the 4-time defending champion, Jeff Mathews, scrambling as he, without a drastic change, has lost his reign at Bubba Raceway Park. Mathews can count 2012 a success, however, as he has won a feature in both his Modified and Late Model- 1 of only 2 drivers to do so this year. (more…)

MARYVILLE, TN (September 22, 2012)—Billy Ogle Jr. being unstoppable would be an understatement.

The defending Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series champion won his fifth straight Super Late Model event, and third straight SAS victory on Saturday Night September 22nd at the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN. Ogle began the night by setting fast time in qualifying with a lap of 15.801 seconds around the 4/10 mile clay oval. The Southern All Stars lock in the top-10 drivers onto the starting grid through time-trials so Vic Hill, Mark Douglas, Randy Weaver, Riley Hickman, Skylar Marlar, Tommy Kerr, Dillon Wood, David Crabtree and Stacy Boles were able to avoid the heat races as they were set for the feature early in the evening. BUSCH FIRED UP FOR SHOT AT ANOTHER WINCHESTER RIFFLE

2009 Winner Returns to “World’s Fastest Half Mile” for 41st Annual Event

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 24, 2012) – Kyle Busch will return to the famous High Banks of Winchester Speedway, located in Winchester, Indiana, on Sunday, October 14th to compete in the Winchester 400, for the first time since winning the event in 2009. Busch will take aim at his second victory at the “World’s Fastest Half Mile,” driving his Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) No. 51 Camry in the 41st annual running of the prestigious Super Late Model event sanctioned by the ARCA/CRA Super Series.

“I’ve raced at a lot of tracks in many different series throughout my career and racing Super Late Models with CRA at Winchester is one of the coolest experiences in all of racing,” said Busch, who in addition to 105 NASCAR National Series victories has claimed numerous Late Model victories at tracks all across the country. “The Super Late Models have always been my favorite type of car to drive and when you put 30-something of them on the high banks of Winchester running 15-second laps — it makes for some exciting racing. To win that race, not only do you have to have a fast car, you have to be patient and take care of your equipment because 400 laps around that place will take its toll on your car.” (more…)

Preston Peltier Gets Back to a Familiar Place Revisiting Victory Lane at the Hickory Motor Speedway

Charlotte, NC 9/24/12- Preston Peltier knew what it would take to win at the Hickory Motor Speedway Saturday in the PASS South Series’ fall event, the Over the Mountain 150, and made it happen. Peltier saved his tires in the first half of the 150 lap race, and let his fellow competitors come to him eventually making his way to the front picking cars off one at a time before taking the lead for good on lap eighty-nine and never looked back. The win was the Concord, North Carolina driver’s second of the season dating back to the series season opener at the Dillon Motor Speedway on March 10th.

“It was a special win tonight for us because it broke a tie with Ben (Rowe) to become the all time wins leader in the PASS South Series and that means a lot for a guy like me, “ said Peltier in victory lane. “Wins in this series are so hard to come by these days it makes each one you get a special one. I could tell my guys were a little nervous talking to them over the radio when that last caution came out with five to go for the #47 spinning, but I just told them we’ve been there before and came out on top and with as good as a car as we have tonight, we should do it again and we did.” (more…)
