Brother and Sister team “Burns” up the Pro Truck Feature

Who would expect the crowd that was on hand to witness the return of TBARA Winged Sprint cars, Easter Egg hunt, Bike races and the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition. From the drop of the first Green flag till the last checkers flew the Punta Gorda Speedway sure had a little bit of something going on for everyone. Before the races even started the fans had to be parked so far away because the main parking lot was full, that speedway owner Kevin Williams was on a golf cart shutteling fans to the front gate with two other carts running with curb service. John Koller Wins First Ever Late Model Feature At East Bay

It was a beautiful night for racing and a great night for the kids at EastBay Raceway Park as the Easter Bunny made his stop at the “Clay by the Bay” and passed out Easter baskets and lots of candy to all the children on the front straightaway with all the drivers as well.

Street Stock action was intense as points leader Eric Moon battled with Donnie Reed, Buck Woodhouse, Billy Carlbert, Jr and birthday boy Jim Baker.  Dennis Wilson started on the outside of row one, but quickly grabbed the lead and kept the #42 out front for the 15 lap feature event.  Reed finished 2nd Moon 3rd, Woodhouse 4th and Jim Baker rounded out the top 5.  (more…)

4-2-12 – The Top Gun Sprint Cars and Scorpion Performance Products UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds headline the night while the Hobby Stocks, Gladiators, and 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks battle for more points and glory.

Defending champion Danny Martin, Jr. had some trouble with his new team last time out. He finished 2nd. Matt Kurtz was able to take the win and put the critics to rest while drivers such as Robbie Smith, AJ Maddox, Brett O’Donnell, and Ryan Partin try to get back to victory lane. Sprint Car action will be intense and passes should be a premium!  (more…)

April 7th RACIN TO END HUNGER & The Return of the TBARA Winged Sprints Cars

ALSO A FUN NIGHT FOR THE KIDS.

On April 7th, Punta Gorda Speedway will be holding its first Junior Fan Club Bike race of the year! There will also be an Easter basket give away and an Easter egg hunt and maybe the kids will get a chance to catch a picture with the Easter Bunny! Also the TBARA Winged Sprints will be back along with the Pro Trucks, Rookie Trucks, Legends, Bandoleros, Cowboy Cadillac ’ s, and the always exciting Road Warriors! Come out and join us at Punta Gorda Speedway for this fun filled weekend!

Road Warriors and Cowboy Cadillac will run a make up race (the field is set from 3-31) also their regular scheduled race for the night, that is two races and two payouts for those two classes that were rained out. (more…)

Florida United Promoter Late Models this Saturday Night at NSS !

The Florida United Promoters Late Model series is set for a Saturday night battle at the half mile, high banked New Smyrna Speedway.

Steve Dorer opened the season with a convincing win at the Desoto Super Speedway in race one. Then young Harvard student Patrick Staropoli flew in to grab a big win at Auburndale in race two. Anthony Campi has strung together two top five finishes and leads the points coming to race three. Dorer sits second just one point back with youngster Jake Perkins third just 13 markers back. Jonathon Guy and Jesse Dutilly round out the top five in points.  (more…)

Citrus County Speedway Open Wheel Modified 50 lapper this Saturday night 4/7!

This Saturday night the Citrus County Speedway will crank back up the racing action with the Open Wheel Modifieds for 50 laps! Joining the Modifieds will be the Sportsman, Pure Stock, Mini Stock, Hornets, and DWARF cars. Gates open at 4pm and racing will start at 6:30, this is a new later starting time, so please make note. Practice for all divisions will also be pushed back to a 4pm starting time, instead of 3pm. The start of the season has been strong, we hope to pick right back up where we left off before the fair break. (more…)

John Inman Holds Off Reutimann For First Feature Win In Open Wheel

March 31, 2012 – Tampa, Fl – Once again it looked like Mother Nature was going to be a spoiler for Saturday nights event as five classes were in action here at East Bay Raceway Park.

The first feature of the night went to the Limited Late Models. Ricky Land won the heat race and putting him on the outside pole for the feature along with Shane Koperda. On the start it was Koperda and Land side by side thru turns one and two with Land taking the early lead. On the next lap, Land slipped up high and that allowed Koperda to take the lead and never look back as he went on to win the feature. Rounding out the top five was Land, Forrest Gough, Terry Jones and Jason Russell.  (more…)

Steve Gill wins race #3 at Punta Gorda Speedway

Punta Gorda Speedway would like to thank Amanda Furguson for bringing two race cars to the track, one to have on display at the front entrance for RAD (Race against Drugs) night. Amanda was on hand at the front of the speedway to sign autographs and hand out posters, race cars toys and sticker to all the kids entering the speedway. It looked as if the rain was staying well north of us all day and with practice all done with it was time to go racing. After qualifying which Darryl Shelnut from Lake City set fast time the heat races got underway and the first feature of the night was the Mini Stock. Kyle Rice of Labelle brought home the win in his number seven machine, with Mike Karrivan second and John Pummell Jr. third. (more…)

Rains Can’t Stop Action For Long At Bubba Raceway Park

3-31-12 – Limited Late Models returned alongside the RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Mini Stocks, and the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks as these 4 divisions raced other drivers and the water which appeared after Limited Late Model Heats.

The Limited Late Models battled hard throughout while the backstretch gave a few drivers trouble. The final caution came out on lap 14 setting up a Green/White-Checkered. JO Nobles and Eddie Gainey stayed 1-2 all night while David Showers took 3rd after a strong run. Kevin Mills and Curt Thift completed the top 5. (more…)
