Punta Gorda Speedway would like to thank Amanda Furguson for bringing two race cars to the track, one to have on display at the front entrance for RAD (Race against Drugs) night. Amanda was on hand at the front of the speedway to sign autographs and hand out posters, race cars toys and sticker to all the kids entering the speedway. It looked as if the rain was staying well north of us all day and with practice all done with it was time to go racing. After qualifying which Darryl Shelnut from Lake City set fast time the heat races got underway and the first feature of the night was the Mini Stock. Kyle Rice of Labelle brought home the win in his number seven machine, with Mike Karrivan second and John Pummell Jr. third.

Perfect Pest Control Pro 4 saw the battle continue between the 04 of Ryan Collver and the 61 of Paul Richards Jr were Collver led the first half of the race. At the half way Richards took the lead and went on to win the race with Collver second. The battle was going on behind the front two between Blaine Baer and Jessica Ostrovskis and at the end it was Baer third and Ostrovskis fourth.

Speedway owner Kevin Williams had his eye on the radar throughout the night and saw that a big green cell was moving towards the area, so he bumped the main show up to make sure the fans got to see the main event of the night. With the Supers taking to the field there was no time for introductions and it was straight on to racing. Mike Smith from Auburndale sat on the pole with Billy Bigley jr from Naples outside and it was Smith who jumped out to the lead. Smith and Bigley ran in the one two spots for the first sixteen laps till Wayne Anderson got by Bigley and ran in the two spot till lap forty five. The radar showed the rain had moved into Punta Gorda and was on its way and the fans were watching some great racing action. Steve Gill out of Sarasota was on a mission this week since he was taken out of race number two before he got one lap in the books, and he seemed to have the fastest car out there since fast qualifier Shelnut took to the pits on lap twenty five. Gill started third row back and by lap forty six had passed Wayne Anderson for second and Bigley was fourth and Richie Anderson was on his way up into the fifth spot by now. Five laps Gill was trying to pass Smith and got on the inside coming down the front stretch heading into one and Smith got called for chopping down in front of Gill bringing out the caution and sending Smith to the rear. After the restart Gill checked out with Anderson running second Bigley third and Richie Anderson came from the tenth starting position to fourth. Drops started to fall as officials watched the track and it was lap sixty five the white was shown and the checker flew with sixty six laps in the books. The rains cancelled the remainder of races so the Road Warriors and Cowboy Cadillacs run double features next week, a makeup race and their regular feature April 7th. Street Stock were also scheduled to run and after what we saw in the heat races fans wanted to stick around to catch that feature but they will run double featured their next time out on April 14th.
