Shane Butler tops TBARA at Desoto Super Speedway

By Marty Little
BRADENTON, Fla. – TBARA points leader Shane Butler wrestled the lead from Ben Fritz with five laps remaining and won Saturday night’s 30 lap sprint car feature event at DeSoto Super Speedway.

Thing got off to a rough start as 16 year-old Collin Cabre, starting on the outside of the front row, lost control entering turn three on lap one and tangled with pole sitter Jim Alvis. Alvis went hard into the wall and took Larry Brazil, Jr. with him. Both were finished for the evening with no injuries. Following a red flag to clear the track Fritz jumped out front and put on one of his best drives of the season. Butler, who is locked in a furious point battle with Dude Teate, worked his way from the rear and made his pass for the lead with just a handful of laps remaining and sped to the checkers for his first ever victory here and his second this season. Fritz hung tough to collect runner-up money over Teate, Troy DeCaire and Shane Miller.

The 2010 TBARA tour wraps up at Citrus Coutny Speedway in Inverness on Nov. 6 with only 31 points separating Butler from Teate. With 55 points available, one of these two will be the new champion when the checkered flag waves Saturday night.

Feature (30 laps – 1. Shane Butler, 2. Ben Fritz, 3. Dude Teate, 4. Troy DeCaire, 5. Shane Miller, 6. Bo Hartley, 7. Johnny Gilbertson, 8. Keith Butler, 9. Sonny Hartley, 10. John Gilbert III, 11. Collin Cabre, 12. Bryan Riddle, 13. Jimmy Alvis, Jr., 14. Jason Bradford, 15. Jimmy Alvis, 16. Larry Brazil, Jr.

Heat race victories fell to Fritz and DeCaire.

ABBOTT SCORES IN LEGENDS – MEYER HANGS ON FOR OUTLAW MODIFIED WIN AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

by Dave Westerman

It was yet another great evening for racing at Auburndale Speedway Saturday and the kids had a great time too with a big trick or treat session on the front straight at intermission that saw most of them carrying bags of candy back up into the grandstands that were nearly busting at the seams.

Another nice field of Legend Cars saw point leaders Jake Perkins and Gerald White, Jr. taking heat race wins earning front row starting spots for the 25 lap feature. White jumped to the early feature lead as Perkins began to fall back in the outside groove all the way to fifth spot. White’s advantage lasted all of one lap as Kory Abbott zipped by on lap two and began to set a blistering pace. Problems for Leroy Moore slowed the field on lap six. (more…)

A Spooktacular Event at Ocala

by Jimmy Rouse- Ocala Speedway Media

Ocala Speedway had the Late Models up this week along with the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, Mini Stocks, and Gladiators. Before the features started, however, the kids got to trick-or-treat on the frontstretch and they also had a costume contest. Even though Willy Wonka wasn’t there, Joe Dirt searched and found his candy with Scott Mooers. The prizes for the night were donated by Xtreme Team Racing.

The first feature on the night was the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks. The race got off to a spooky start when Jason Gamble had a tire go down and Jerrid Bennett lost his wheel and axle in turn 4. After another 2 laps, Scott Mooers had a tire go down and behind him, Sean Babcock, Jonathan Appleby, Gordon Cade (driving the 55W), Cory Howard, and Brian Shea all got collected in a spin with Appleby getting the worst of it. Harold Erickson and Scott Mooers were racing hard down the back straight when Erickson had a problem and shot straight into the back stretch wall, getting the front end airborne. Erickson immediately got out of the car as the crowd gave him a roar. On lap 13, the lead pack of Mike Stalnaker, Vaughn Woodall, and Jason Gamble caught Kenny Asbell. In turn 2, Asbell went around and Stalnaker barely tapped Asbell. The 20 minutes had expired and it would set up a 2 lap dash with Stalnaker leading Woodall, Gamble, and Scott Mooers. They would stay that way through the checkers with Stalnaker winning, Woodall 2nd, Gamble 3rd, Mooers a hard earned 4th, and Chris Shea drove all the way up to 5th. Further review in the tech shed, however, led to the disqualification of Stalnaker, giving Vaughn Woodall his first career win. Jason Gamble got another 2nd place finish, Scott Mooers moved up to 3rd, Chris Shea with 4th, and Chris Rowe would round out the top 5. (more…)

TYLER SMITH OUT-GUNS LEGENDS – FOLEY DESTROYS MOD MINIS AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

by Dave Westerman

Fans were treated to seven classes of racing action under perfect weather conditions Saturday night at Auburndale Speedway.

Twenty-one Legend Cars filled their section of the pit area with a pair of heat races going to point leader Jake Perkins and Tyler Smith, who was back in action taking a break from his college studies down in Fort Myers.

Smith broke out on top at the drop of the green for what would be a caution flag-filled 25 laps. The race got off to a clean first few laps although outside pole sitter Perkins began dropping back like he was tied to a pole unable to get out of the high groove. Meanwhile, Legend Car veteran Brandon Thomson, subbing for Bryan Silas, quickly moved from his mid-pack starting spot to second by passing Justin Brown on lap seven. (more…)
