WILMOT, Wis. — June 16, 2013 — After breaking a driveshaft while leading two nights earlier, Kevin Weaver bounced back in a big way on Sunday night by capturing his first DIRTcar Summer Nationals “Hell Tour” victory in five seasons at Wilmot Raceway.

Weaver, of Gibson City, Ill., started outside of the first row in his Jimmy John’s-sponsored car and was definitely “freaky fast” on the high side the majority of the night en route to capturing the $5,000 checkered flag. Weaver held off pole sitter Brandon Sheppard, giving Sheppard his second consecutive runner-up finish.

“It was just an awesome car and an awesome race for me tonight,” said Weaver, the 2000 DIRTcar Summer Nationals champion. (more…)

Schatz Sweeps World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series Weekend

Five-time champion wins for third time in a row at Knoxville Raceway

20130608-141535.jpgKNOXVILLE , Iowa – June 15, 2013 – Donny Schatz swept the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series weekend by capitalizing on leader Brian Brown’s slip Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway.

Schatz, the five-time and defending series champion who won on Friday night at Jackson Speedway, was running second mid-way through Saturday night’s 30-lap Mediacom Shootout when Brown tried to get through lapped traffic. Brown bounced his car off the wall, damaging the front suspension and nearly stalling it, but he was able to keep the car going without bringing out a caution.

Schatz charged ahead into the lead in his STP/Armor All J&J and drove off to victory, becoming the second driver in the past two weeks to sweep the weekend events after Craig Dollansky accomplished the feat last weekend.

“We’re just doing our job right now, we’re having fun and that’s important and we’re making changes for the better,” said Schatz, of Fargo, N.D. “I’m glad to be heading near home next weekend and running good, that’s always good because we would like to get a win at home, that’s for sure.” (more…)

Mike Marlar Magnificent in Winning Clash at the Mag Saturday Night

16COLUMBUS, MS (June 15, 2013) – Mike Marlar overtook race leader, Don O’Neal with nine laps to go to take the $20,000 to win “Clash at the Mag” Presented by the Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau on Saturday Night at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Marlar’s first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win of the season was hard earned as a caution with 12 laps to go set up a great finish.

Marlar, in his first weekend piloting a Bloomquist Race Car led to the checkers holding off O’Neal and John Blankenship for his fifth career LOLMDS victory. Point’s leader, Jimmy Owens, who started 12th, came home in fourth followed by 17th starting, Randy Weaver.

“When I saw the caution come out, I got down in some dry dirt on the bottom of the track, and then I had to clean my tires off really good for the restart,” said Marlar. “It was good to have one more shot at it there at the end, I lined up beside Blankenship for the restart, and my car took off really well up top, and it only took us a few laps to get by O’Neal. They had an awesome race track here tonight, we have always enjoyed coming down here to Mississippi to race, and they have a lot of great fans here.” (more…)

Schatz Notches Sixth World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Win of the Year

Five-time champion charges from fifth to victory at Minnesota’s Jackson Speedway

20130608-141535.jpgJACKSON, Minn. – June 14, 2013 – Donny Schatz drove to his sixth World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series victory on Friday night in the Big Game Shootout Presented by Eyecon Trail Cameras at Jackson Speedway.

Schatz started the 30-lap feature on the inside of the third row in his Tony Stewart Racing STP/Armor All J&J and quickly worked his way to the front. By lap 10 he had moved into second behind points leader Daryn Pittman, then exchanged the lead with Pittman from laps 13 through 15.

When a caution flew with 14 laps in the books, Pittman used the restart to run out to another quick lead in the Kasey Kahne Racing Great Clips GF1, but the restart was called back when officials declared David Gravel had jumped too soon.

Schatz learned from that start and would not be beaten again. As he and Pittman charged into turn one, Pittman again went to the bottom, but this time Schatz made the high-side work and powered around Pittman. Schatz pulled away as best he could, navigating through traffic but still maintaining his advantage to the checkered flag for the series-leading sixth time this season. (more…)

Fathers And Kids Rewarded At Bubba Raceway Park

BRP LogoOcala, FL- The NeSmith Crate Late Models, Bubba Army Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, Rent-N-Roll Gladiators, and Limited Late Models all attacked the 3/8 mile for that shining moment in Coors Light Winner’s Circle.
Action opened up with the Limited Late Models, and Dale Pope took the early lead from outside pole. On lap seven, Pope and Tyler Clem saw trouble hit as Clem spun trying to grab the lead, and Pope had a tire go down soon after. Nevin Gainey would inherit the lead, but Forrest Gough stole that lead away on the restart. Clem fought his way up through the pack, and he found himself behind Gough until lap thirteen as that’s when the young driver made his move. Clem walked away to win his first career race at just ten years old, and neither him nor his father would stop smiling in Twenty-one Means Twenty-one Victory Lane. The Tony Stewart Racing Developmental Driver was quite excited to give his dad a father’s day gift, one that neither will ever forget. Gough again found himself the runner-up with Gainey, 2012 champion JO Nobles, and Dale Pope the top five. (more…)
