NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series August 12 Round Up

dudleyVLeams081013CARTERSVILLE, GA – Several drivers made advances in the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series point standings after Week 20 of the 27-week 2013 season.  Teammates Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS did not net any points over the weekend on their best 14 week point totals, but they remain one-two in the standings.

Daspit still leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 693 points after 11 wins, 21 top five finishes, and 22 top ten finishes in 25 races.  Daspit was the apparent winner on Saturday night at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL, but the rear spoiler on his Billy Riels Racing Trak-Star failed the post-race technical inspection.

Even if Daspit wasn’t disqualified, he still would have failed to net any points, as there were only five cars at Southern Raceway, and it would have been a 40-point win.  Daspit needed to finish third or better in a field of eight or more cars to gain any points on his best 14 week total. (more…)

Charlie O’Neill continues his underdog reign of the championship lead in the Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, but his lead has dwindled to just three points over “Four-time” Jeff Mathews. Mathews, the 2008-2011 division champion, leads the division with four wins in seven features. Scott Kurtzner has the #1K in third, but he sits 28 behind the leader and only three ahead of Bryan Bernhardt, Mathews’ team-mate. Rich Pratt, the only other feature winner in the top five, sits over 50 points out of the lead, but it’s about wins for the Late Model points leader. (more…)

Tampa, FL (8/10/2013), This week 11 year-old Tyler Clem begins another chapter in his racing career with an introduction into the Clem Racing’s 1800 ASKGARY / TSR Winged Sprint.

Clem Racing team set the car up prior to the event, and was rolled out of the CRI hauler and into to Tyler’s hands (as is) to begin the evenings practice sessions and racing.   In practice during Saturday night’s Bubba Raceway Park Limited Wing Sprint Car event, Tyler took to the clay with nothing more than shaking a new car down, and becoming familiar with the power and handling of a sprint car.  Surprising becoming familiar was rather quick, in fact he seemed quite comfortable.

Although not officially in the race for points or awards, Tyler finished 4th in his heat.  Tyler’s feature race was a mixture of middle of the pack, and later part of the field.  Towards the final laps Tyler was experimenting working the high-side when he scrubbed the turn 4 wall, and decided that it would be best to call it a night. JEFFERSON, GEORGIA (August 10, 2013) – Two months ago, Preston Peltier was on the short track racing sidelines recovering from injuries sustained in a home accident.  On August 10, though, the pain from a fall at his house was eased simply by the placing of a golden crown atop his head.

Peltier was anointed the winner of the 30th Annual Slack Auto Parts World Crown 300 presented by Peach State Freighliner and Ford Power Stroke Diesel after conquering a hard-fought battle with Bubba Pollard at Jefferson, Georgia’s Gresham Motorsports Park.  For his victory, Peltier wore the traditional crown in Gresham’s victory lane that had been worn by past event winners such as Dick Trickle, Darrell Waltrip, Gary Balough, Mike Eddy and Bobby Gill.

The win marked Peltier’s first-ever Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco victory in his first start.  Peltier, a veteran of Super Late Model racing throughout the Southeast, battled door-to-door with two-time Southern Super Series winner Bubba Pollard in the waning laps before taking command for good with 24 laps remaining in the 300-lap affair.

“I’ve been sitting on the couch for two months after I fell out of the attic and my arm is still kind of hurting me tonight.  I tried to race last week but it was just too much.

“I brought all my friends to help me tonight and I’d rather have them than a high-dollar pit crew any day. I’m worn out though. I’ve been telling these guys this thing is awesome and I think we showed it tonight.” (more…)

Jack Nosbisch, Jr. Wins Late Model Feature Preparing For Scott Thompson Memorial

Nosbisch-Winer-8-10-13August 10, 2013 – Tampa, FL – It was a hot summer night as the Late Models made their return after their last race on May 25th after weeks of rainouts here at East Bay Raceway Park. Also racing tonight were the V8 Warriors, Outlaw Fours and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers.

First feature of the night went to the Outlaw Fours. Winning the heat was Billy Howard early on and he and Stephen Hohlbaugh would make up the front row for the feature. When the green flag waved it was Hohlbaugh jumping out to the top spot with Howard trailing him until the first caution of the night came out when Megan Meyer would come to rest in turn four. The green waved once again and it was on lap seven when Brandon Yates got sideways and with nowhere to go Nick Hebrank was caught up in the wreck which ended his night. When the checkered flag waved it was Hohlbaugh picking up his sixth win of the 2013 season. Rounding out the top five were Raymond Folwell, Billy Howard, Brandon Yates and Megan Meyer coming back to finish fifth. (more…)
