World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series Headed to Merced Bullring

The third visit in as many years to the tight, third-mile oval is set for Friday, March 29

20130317-135307.jpgMERCED, Calif. – March 20, 2013 – When it’s called a bullring, people aren’t kidding.

Merced Speedway is a tight, semi-banked track that was widened to a third mile last year. It’s a place where there are always cars to pass, whether a driver starts on the pole or mid-pack. And when there are two dozen screaming World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series drivers banging wheels, it’s quite the show.

The premier sprint car series is set to compete at Merced Speedway for the only time this season on Friday, March 29. It marks the third straight year with a visit to the track.

“It’s a tough place to pass; track position means a lot,” Cody Darrah said. “It puts on a pretty good show because when the feature starts, the leaders come up on the tail within a lap or two. It’s an exciting race track to go to with the fans and the atmosphere of it.”

Sammy Swindell has claimed the two previous features. Jason Sides placed third in both main events, and Jason Meyers and Steve Kinser are the only other drivers to record a top 10 in each race.

“It’s definitely a tough, little race track,” Joey Saldana said. “It’s definitely a track where position means a lot.” (more…)

Marlar Hopes Pursuit Of Victory On World of Outlaws Late Model Series Is Over After Sunday (March 24) Visit To Duck River Raceway Park

Tennessee Standout Focused On Defeating WoO LMS Stars In National Tour’s Inaugural Event At Quarter-Mile Track In His Home State

20130315-150746.jpgWHEEL, TN – March 19, 2013 – Mike Marlar knows all too well what it feels like to lose a World of Outlaws Late Model Series A-Main, so it’s no surprise that he harbors a burning desire to experience the ecstasy of a Victory Lane appearance on the national tour.

There could be no better time for the veteran standout from Winfield, Tenn., to finally realize his goal of a World of Outlaws triumph than this Sunday evening (March 24) when the renowned full-fender circuit visits Marlar’s home state for a 50-lap, $10,000-to-win spectacular at Duck River Raceway Park.

Indeed, it’s checkered-flag-or-bust on the WoO LMS this weekend for Marlar, a 35-year-old talent who has come tantalizingly close to victory several times on the series over the past two years while driving for Bryson Motorsports.

“Actually, this weekend we’re going out of our way to go Outlaw racing because I just really want to win an Outlaw race,” said Marlar, who plans to precede his assault on Duck River by entering WoO LMS events on Friday night (March 22) at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., and Saturday night (March 23) at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Miss. “After coming up short (of a World of Outlaws A-Main score) a few times, after having a few near-misses, we’re really hungry to win one. Our TBARA season opener will be at the grand opening of Full Throttle Speedway in Bradenton!  This is the former De Soto Speedway that has recently been purchased by Kevin Williams, the most recent operator of Punta Gorda Speedway.  His new track is under-going extensive renovations in preparation for their big  grand-opening night, which will kick off a very successful future for FTS.  This is good news for racing in Florida!

We are the featured attraction on their grand opening that will kick off on Saturday, May 4’th.  This first night will be advertised and promoted extensively, so they expect a madhouse with over-flowing grandstands and a packed pit area.  Our first priority has to be car count!  Your friends and competitors in this organization need your participation in support of TBARA.

The renowned national tour will makes its inaugural visit to Whynot Motorsports Park on Sat., March 23, giving McCool, 35, of Vicksburg, Miss., his first chance to battle the World of Outlaws stars in his home state since becoming a circuit regular last year.

“It’s definitely nice to have an Outlaw show so close to the house,” said McCool, who will seek to keep the $10,000 first-place check for Saturday night’s 50-lap WoO LMS A-Main from leaving Mississippi. “We’re on the road all year with the Outlaws, so, for a weekend anyway, we don’t have to go so far.
