Green takes first win at Desoto Speedway

sprintBy SCOTT LOCKWOOD
Desoto Speedway
In a little over two years of driving sprint cars 16 year-old Garrett Green has already achieved the honor of being the youngest driver to ever win rookie of the year honors at the Little 500 – the biggest asphalt sprint car race held in the country held each year in May in Anderson, Indiana. After Saturday night, Green has something else he can add to his budding racing resume: sprint car winner. He drove like a seasoned veteran in beating some of the state’s best sprint car drivers in winning the evening’s 40-lap main event.
Green started fourth and  got by Matt Alfonso for second on lap 12. The caution flew a lap later for Keith Butler’s spin coming out of turn four.On a restart after a debris caution on lap 17, leader Shane Butler and and Green made contact, sending Butler into a spin in front of the rest of the field. Officials sent Butler back to sixth as the last car on the lead lap for brining out the caution.
Butler needed just two laps to go from sixth to second, passing both Sport Allen and Alfonso in the same pass to go from fourth to second. As the field came to the stripe to complete the race’s halfway point Butler suddenly slowed coming out of turn four, ending his night.Green and Allen pulled away until the caution flew for the final time for debris with 11 laps to go. Green got the jump on Allen on the final restart and went on to win his first ever sprint car win.
“This is unbelivable,” Green said. “The tires were going away for sure and I didn’t have much left. I’m not sure how much this mean yet and it hasn’t sunk in yet. We finally got it and we’ve worked so hard for this.”Allen finished second, with Alfonso rounding out the top three.

Chastain takes second straight win at Desoto Speedway

Desoto Speedway
When it comes to Pro Truck racing at Desoto Speedway, Chad Chastain seems to have figured out the quick way around the three-eighths mile oval early this season.
In a near replay of last month’s Pro Truck feature, Chastain grabbed the lead at around the halfway point of the 50-lap feature and drove on to his second straight win at the Bradenton raceway.
Outside polesitter Gerald Campbell grabbed the lead at the start and led a four-truck freight train around the track for the first 20 laps. Chastain moved past Darvalics for second on lap 16 and began stalking Campbell for the lead.
As the field completed the 22nd lap, Campbell and Chastain ran up on the back of a lapped car. Darvalics, running third at the time, made slight contact with Chastain coming off turn 2, causing Chastain to spin wildly down the back stretch. Race officials sent Darvalics to the rear of the field while Chastain was allowed to keep his spot in second.
On the restart, Campbell, Chastain and Bradenton’s Danny Anderson battled for the lead. One lap later, Campbell lost control of his truck coming out of turn two. The spin also collected Anderson, whose truck was not badly damaged and was allowed to resume the race in second place. (more…)

As the laps wound down on Saturday night’s 75-lap Turner Tree and Landscape Super Late Model feature at Desoto Speedway, Jeff Scofield knew he had a car capable of winning but had to be a little patient.
Scofield would eventually prove the saying that “good things happen to those who wait” can actually be true. Riding in third place for most of the race, Scofield capitalized on a late restart and powered to his first win of the season at Desoto. (more…)

Forrest Gough And John Moore Make It Two Wins In A Row At East Bay Raceway Park

Gough-Winner-4-5-14

April 5, 2014, – Tampa, FL – Limited Late Models, Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds, V8 Warriors and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers were all on hand to find out who will be in Victory Lane at The Clay By The Bay tonight.

First feature of the night went to the V8 Warriors. Winning their heats early on were Derek Gray and Mike Wilson. It would be Bill Bill Smith and Brett Phillips making up the front row for the 15 Lap Feature Event. When the green waved it was Bill Bill Smith taking charge for the first few laps until Jimmy Baker and Smith crossed the line on lap three with Smith over Baker by just a half a car length. But it was on the very next lap as Smith was trying to hold off Baker and found himself spinning out in turn four putting him to the tail end of the field. On the restart it was Baker leading with Brett Phillips and Mike Wilson the top three. Baker did everything he could to hold off the field but it was on lap fourteen as Mike Wilson would take over the lead coming out of turn four and going on to win the feature. Rounding out the top five were Raymond Van, Jimmy Baker, Bill Whitney and Derek Gray. (more…)

On a night that saw several cars spinning and even more tempers flaring, Travis Roland found himself standing in the winner’s circle at the end of Saturday night’s J.D. Byrider Open Wheel Modified 40-lap feature at Desoto Speedway.
Devin McLeod started on the pole and paced the field for the first 16 laps. During that time, Nick Hernandez and Doug Moff worked their way to the front of the field. McLeod looked to be holding up the field as the top seven cars ran nose to tail around the three-eighths mile oval. (more…)

Late pass sends Aguilar to TBARA win

By SCOTT LOCKWOOD
Desoto Speedway
On a night when the Safety-Kleen TBARA Sprint Car series was honoring one of their pioneering drivers, Joey Aguilar made sure that he was honoring his mentor in a proper way with a pass coming to the white flag that allowed him to take his second consecutive win to open the season.
Aguilar – whose last visit to the speedway ended with a helicopter ride to a local hospital after he received burns from an oil line fire – started ninth in the inaugural Larry Brazil Memorial 30-lap event. As polesitter Tommy Nichols paced the field for the first 15 laps of the race, Aguilar, Shane Bulter and Ben Fritz were making quick work of the rest of the field on their way to the front of the field. Fritz, who started sixth, was already up to second by the end of lap one.
Butler made his way past Fritz for second at the end of lap 10 and quickly ran Nichols down to battle for the lead. Butler used a diamond manuver where he went high in the middle of turns three and four and shot to the bottom of the race track coming off the corner. Butler won a drag race with Nichols into the first turn. (more…)
