The Alabama Gang Invades Southwest Florida

JoeySimmsWhen you mention the “Alabama Gang”, you automatically think of the Allison’s, Neil Bonnett and Red Farmer. But after Saturday night at Three Palms Speedway in Punta Gorda, Florida, you have to add Joey Sims. He grew up in Alabama with Davey and Clifford Allison. He has since relocated to S outhwest Florida and now calls Fort Myers, Florida home.
After not racing in almost 20 years, Sims came out of retirement and set fast time in the Sportsman class at Three Palms Speedway in Punta Gorda, Florida. He then went out and wired the field in the main event. Punta Gorda’s own Rick Reed finished second. Randy Sober was third. Mike Kohut in his MDK Pro Flooring Chevrolet was fourth.

Coulter Pro-Truck Series Shuts Down due to health of series director

Final%20Coulter%20Series%20Logo%20High%20ResThis is a quote from Rick Bristol
“I am heart broken and so sorry that I cannot continue to run the series. I have always put many things before my health and it has gotten the best of me. I have tried to battle through this once again but I have a family and a new grandson that need me and my health has to be my focus now. I am sorry to the drivers, crews, tracks and the fans that have supported us this last year and three races. Please know I care so much about racing and specially the truck series and its people. I ask you to please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I try to get my health in order. I am thankful for the friendships and relationships built along these many years I have been in racing, they are what matter most to me in all of this. There will be those that will bash after this decision made by myself and Joey Coulter, that comes with the territory but those that know me and know how much it meant to me know this is one of the hardest things I have ever done. Joey got involved with this because I asked him to, and because he loved the trucks and how it helped him get started. As we talked these last days he made clear to me that if I was unable to run it, he choose we end it together. I again am sorry, and wish all the drivers, crews and tracks the best going forward. I hope to come around once in awhile to see everyone.

Moff takes second straight win at Desoto

Doug Moffby Scott Lockwood

Doug Moff’s red hot start to the 2015 season continued last weekend with his second consecutive J.D. Byrider 50-lap feature event win at Desoto Speedway on Saturday night.
Moff and Travis Roland spent the first seven laps running side-by-side for the lead, with Roland finally clearing Moff for the top spot at the end of the eighth lap. Roland would lead a five-car freight train of Moff, Hoelzle, Nick Hernandez and Cameron Ray around the three-eighths mile oval for the next several laps.

THOMSON, GORHAM, LEDFORD AND CURTIS TAKE ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD WINS SUNDAY

Orlando SpeedWorld returned with stock car racing action for the first time in 2015 with a special Sunday afternoon program that a nice crowd of sun-drenched fans enjoyed on a beautiful day for racing.
The E-Modifieds were among the classes competing on the day and it was Roger Benton of Chuluota who grabbed the early lead in their 25-lap feature.  Benton held on for 11 laps but could not hold off Brandon Thomson of St. Cloud who grabbed the top spot and raced to victory driving Donnie Lewis’ Ford-powered machine.  It was the first career Modified-type feature victory for Thomson who has numerous wins in Legend Cars at SpeedWorld and began racing here several years ago as a youngster in the Bandoleros. Benton held on to take second followed by John Hodge, Jon Compagnone, Gino Tumminello and Steve Thornbrugh.
George Gorham, Jr. led all the way to take the win in the Sportsman feature driving his Baseline Golf Course/Parker Line Striping special.  A late caution for a spin by Glen Rhodes gave the field one last shot at Gorham but the Lakeland driver held strong to take the win over Sean Bass, Timmy Todd, Jr., Rhodes, Gino Tumminello and Richard Fiore, Jr. (more…)

Juan Pablo Montoya wins Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG —

Firestone_Grand_Prix_logoThere was never a doubt that Team Penske would win the IndyCar Series opener.

After the four Penske drivers led every on-track session through the streets of St. Petersburg and qualified 1-2-3-4, the only question was which Penske driver would end the weekend celebrating in victory lane.

Juan Pablo Montoya wasn’t anyone’s first pick.

Yet the Colombian pulled it off Sunday, when he grabbed the lead from teammate Will Power during green-flag pit stops, then slammed the door closed on Power’s lone attempt to get back to the front.
