Darvalics, Williamson win Desoto Sportsman features

Steve DarvalicsSteve Darvalics and Aaron Williamson picked up victories in Saturday night’s twin 25-lap Sportsman features at Desoto Speedway.
Outside polesitter Aaron Williamson got the jump at the start of the race, but Steve Darvalics needed just three laps to come from his deep starting spot to take the lead.
As Darvalics quickly pulled out to a big lead Williamson, Colin Allman, Scott Garrity, Greg Krom and Roger Blevins were battling amongst themselves for second through fifth. As the field came to the end of the 10th lap Krom got into the back of Garrity, sending Garrity into a spin in the fourth turn.

Curl continues to dominate Bronson Speedway Purestocks

200-px1The Pro Challenge Series returned to Bronson Speedway Sat night with racecars looking like miniature Sprint Cup cars and packing lightning fast speeds around the high banks of Bronson Speedway. Mark Landis in the #56 was on rails as he lapped the field twice with Blaise Rutherford #05 in tow. A green to checkered finish placed a smiling Landis in Victory Lane. (more…)

Racing a family affair for Venice duo

Since its inception over 100 years ago, the sport of auto racing on the grassroots level has almost always been a family affair.

That holds true for the Venice tandem of Jeff Firestine and son-in-law Dean Butrum, who consider themselves to be best friends on top of the family connection.

They have raced together for the last several years and can be found racing in nearly identical orange Dean’s Tree Service/RRD Racing bomber cars at both Desoto Speedway in Bradenton and Three Palms Speedway in Punta Gorda. (more…)

Jones Wins International Motorsports Hall of Fame 20 For First Career ARCA Racing

blake-jones-5-1_p3Talladega, AL.–(Russell Branham) They weren’t able to keep up with this Jones at Talladega Superspeedway on Friday, as 18-year-old Blake Jones pulled away from the field on a green-white-checkered restart to win the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 ARCA Racing Series event.
Not only did Jones’ first career ARCA Racing Series victory come in only his second career start on a superspeedway, it also occurred a month before he graduates from high school in his hometown of Sevierville, Tenn.
“It’s hard to put into words. This has almost brought tears to my eyes,” an emotional Jones said from Victory Lane. “This is the biggest race I’ve ever won. It’s a dream come true.

KINSER FIRST ACROSS LINE AT PUTNAM COUNTY SPEEDWAY FLORIDA OUTLAW MICRO SPRINT SHOW

11187432_980910728610536_3582089871469096756_oIt was an exciting night of micro sprint racing put on by the Florida Outlaw Micro Sprints Series
Saturday night at the Putnam County Speedway in Satsuma , Florida and young Danny Sams III 24x   lead 19 and 3/4’s of the 20 lap feature before he and Sheldon Kinser Jr. got together after hitting a rut in turn four heading for the checkered giving Kinser the advantage at the finish line.
In post race interviews Sheldon was highly disappointed on the win outcome and after a team meeting at 3 a.m. back at the race shop it was decided to forfeit the win to Danny Sams.

JOHNSON WON THE NeSMITH LATE MODEL RACE AT TALLADEGA, BUT CLEM STOLE THE SHOW

clemjohnson050215tstEASTABOGA, AL – On a normal night when Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN comes from the 12th starting spot and wins a NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series race, it’s a pretty big story. That wasn’t the case at Talladega Short Track on Saturday night. The big story was the driver that finished fourth. His name is Tyler Clem of St. Petersburg, FL and he’s 12-years-old.

 

                The race was billed as a Race For The Ages on the Grand Stage of Talladega NASCAR Weekend. The oldest driver in the field was 82-year-old Legend Red Farmer of Hueytown, AL, and 70 years his junior, Clem at age 12 was the youngest driver among the 58 different drivers that competed over the weekend with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series.
