200-px1The Pro Challenge Series returned to Bronson Speedway Sat night with racecars looking like miniature Sprint Cup cars and packing lightning fast speeds around the high banks of Bronson Speedway. Mark Landis in the #56 was on rails as he lapped the field twice with Blaise Rutherford #05 in tow. A green to checkered finish placed a smiling Landis in Victory Lane.

Next up were the Purestocks. Returning to competition this week was the always fast #81 of Morris “Gator” Richardson who had been absent for a few weeks making engine repairs. When the green flag dropped, Gator who started 4th on the grid was in the lead by the time the pack exited the 4th turn with Tracy King in second and the 69 of Tim Henault in 3rd. Devin Curl had his work cut out for him as he can no longer start any better than 5th. Curl set his sites set on the leader, and by lap 2 faced a 5 car lengths gap behind Richardson. The hunt was on. Richardson was way out front and it appeared Curl would be denied victory this night. But Curl just kept digging and lap after lap was able to reel in Richardson.

By half way Curl was all over the back bumper of Richardson. Curl tried the bottom, Richardson closed the door. Curl tried the top, Richardson did his job and blocked. Then Curl went to the outside to try anything to get around the #81 of Richardson.Curl hung it out there, and the two ran door handle to door handle, both wanting the same piece of real estate. On Lap 12 Richardson car just couldn’t hold the groove, and Curl made the move that would take him again to Victory Lane. Richardson would have to settle for second. 17 year old Williston HS senior Devin Curl’s win streak continues at Bronson Speedway, this is now his 4th win of the 2015 season. This teenage driver is on fire as he is dominating the seasoned best in class at Bronson Speedway finishing ahead of drivers like Richardson, Welter Jr and the like. In Victory lane a congratulatory hand shake between drivers demonstrates the respect each shared for the race, each other and the outcome. As the winning interview takes place Richardson like every driver who looses a commanding lead questions, “why” there has to be a reason…This night for Gator, the culprit, a right front tire gone south. With explanation revealed a “we will get em next week attitude” takes over and the game begins again

The Strictly Stock Race again proved to be exciting. Point leader Ron Klys who’s #9 is the car to beat each week, started 7th, however the competition has begun to close up, and it took Klys 6 laps to get to the leader. That leader, Robert Oneail in the T2 always gets the most of everything he drives, and is no stranger to Victory Lane. Oneail has been on the hunt this season for his share of victory lane visits, and wasn’t going to relinquish the lead without a fight. When Klys reached the back bumper of the leader on lap 6, Oneail used every trick in the book to hold off a hard charging Klys. They swapped the lead on lap 7 and then back again on lap 11. Lap 12 Klys would again take over and Oneail back to the lead on lap 13. The on lap 14 Klys would make contact with the rear of Oneail sending him spinning bringing out the first caution of the race. Chief Starter Jimmy Hullander would come down off the starters stand and send Klys to the rear. Oneail would go to the pits with a flat tire, and when the race resumed a green white checkered would find Kenner Brown the winner.

In other news Cassie Lozier driver of the # 24 Strictly Stock took down her first ever heat race win in the strictly stock division. Cassis is a 13 year old from Cedar Key who calls Bronson Speedway her home. Look for this young lady to make a real splash in racing as she has the heart of a champion.
