Schatz Claims Historic Win No. 125 with World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series

Larson battles fuel issues, mistakes and defending series champion en route to podium

LAS VEGAS – March 6, 2013 – If the rest of the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series races this season are anything like Wednesday night, fans across the country are in for a treat.

Fighting extreme gusts of wind all night, defending series champion Donny Schatz outlasted future NASCAR star Kyle Larson to garner the opening night at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas. The win was Schatz’s series-leading seventh at the half mile and more significantly, it was his 125th career World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series feature victory.

“I think it’s more important to be win No. 1 on the season,” he said after becoming only the fourth driver to ever reach the 125-win milestone. “It’s always hardest to get the first win of the season out of the way.”

Schatz started on the pole of the dash after the No. 8 pill – the highest possible – was randomly selected for the third consecutive race to invert the first four rows. However, he was passed by Jason Sides in the closing laps of the dash, giving Sides the pole position for the 30-lap feature.

That didn’t last for long as Schatz rocketed around the high groove to take the lead exiting turn four on the opening lap. He maintained a several car length advantage as Brian Brown battled Sides for the runner-up position during the first eight laps before entering traffic. (more…)

Strong Start Has McCreadie Anxious To Resume Action On World of Outlaws Late Model Series

Tripleheader Weekend March 22-24 In Arkansas, Mississippi & Tennessee Next Up For National Tour
20130306-210749.jpg

CONCORD, NC – March 6, 2013 – Tim McCreadie is finally home in upstate New York following a near month-long, season-opening racing odyssey in the Southeast. But as much as the 38-year-old dirt-track star relishes a break in his schedule that provides time to work on his racing equipment and hang out with his girlfriend Karen and toddler son Gavin, he’s admittedly already eyeing his next trip south.

McCreadie is, quite simply, feeling too bullish about the upward trajectory of his racing fortunes to sit idle. He has a smile on his face and a spring in his step as he prepares for the upcoming World of Outlaws Late Model Series tripleheader that features 50-lap, $10,000-to-win A-Mains on March 22 at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.; March 23 at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Miss.; and March 24 at Duck River Raceway Park in Wheel, Tenn.

“I think our team is headed in a positive direction,” said McCreadie, who is in his second season campaigning Warrior Chassis cars bearing the colors of Carl Myers’s Sweeteners Plus Racing operation. “We’re close to where we want to be and that has me excited.” (more…)

DALLAS, March 5 — Juan Camilo Acosta of M1 Racing got the 2013 season of the Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires off to an exciting and very successful start on Friday when he finished fourth in the first half of a season-opening doubleheader at Circuit of The Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas.

Driving the Dallas, Texas-based team’s immaculate white and yellow No. 11 sponsored by Studio F and Ela, the 22-year-old rookie from Cali, Colombia took the checkered flag just a tick after the podium finishers — Diego Ferreira, Spencer Pigot and Matthew Brabham — while holding off a hard-charging Petri Suvanto in the 12-lap event. ARCA Midwest Tour and ARCA/CRA Super Series First Ever Combined Event at Toledo Speedway

Officials from the ARCA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment and Lester Buildings along with the ARCA/CRA Super Series have released both entries for the “first ever” combination race between the ARCA Midwest Tour and the ARCA/CRA Super Series. Both series, labeled as the leaders in super late model short track racing, will bring an extreme amount of talent together on opening day April 20th at Toledo Speedway.

Both series have agreed to combine on two occasions with the first event kicking off at Toledo and the following event taking place at Madison International Speedway in Oregon WI on August 11th.

“Steve and I have worked very hard with Glenn Luckett and RJ Scott to make sure we can successfully bring together both series without any major changes. This is a historic movement in short track racing by bringing the two series together and we look forward to what the future holds. Our relationship with ARCA is forming very nicely and we are proud to be a part of such a great event with such a fine organization,” said series President, Tim Olson. (more…)

Restart!

20130305-191257.jpg

Jim Rouse, BRP Media Ocala, FL- This week we’ll try it again after most tracks cancelled racing plans due to the uncomfortable cold. Bubba Raceway Park will now open 2013 up with the Late Models, Hobby Stocks, all-new E-Mods, Thunder Stocks, and Gladiators.

The Late Models 2012 season was the most competitive in recent history and this race will be the 75th points-paying event since the reconversion back to dirt in 2008! Mark Whitener will go to work defending his 2012 title while home-town hero Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. will look for yet another win at his playground. Christian Augspurger took home a big-money race last season and knows there’s more to reach- in fact, there’s a chance to be crowned the youngest champion of the division by a few years. Bo Allen and Bryan Bernhardt will try to break the curse and visit Coors Light Winner’s Circle but Jeff Mathews and Richard Ferry will try to put a few more checkmarks in the “W” column. The main question is yet to be answered, however: Can anyone stop Whitener and Lloyd?

Many people are saying that the most competitive division in the Southeast United States right now is the Florida Street Stocks and when you have 10- yes, 10- drivers that can win on any given night and finish, well, 10th the next night it’s tough to argue. Drivers like Brian Hansford and Scotty Kay, Jr. made names for themselves last year as did “Ragin” Rodney Wright. You can never count out the last 2 Bubba Raceway Park champions in Tim Powers and Trevor Gamble or hired guns Kevin Durden, Mike Tovet, Grady Christian, and 16-year old Devin Walker. Add Tim Gay, Brian Morgan, and Mike Stalnaker to the mix and you have 12 of the best drivers in the business right now! (more…)
