Harper Comes Back to Dominate Second Q Auto & Injury Attorney Open Wheel Featured Event

It was a great night of racing at Punta Gorda Speedway and the good weather made a difference with packed grand stands. The main features of the night was the Q Auto & Injury Attorney twin 35 lap features that did not disappoint the fans with great racing action. Q Auto & Injury Attorney sponsors were on hand to give away backpacks full of school supplies and $100.00 cash to some of the many kids that were lined up for the drawings.

The field was set for the first Open Wheel feature were Shawn Harper in the 00 from Lake Wales Fl. set fast time with a 15.377 but would start inside second row. Steve Arnold of Cape Coral was on the pole and jumped out to the lead and led until the first caution came out on lap 22. Something flew off the 99 car of Sean McLaughlin which brought out the first caution and as they were lined back up ready to go green, you could hear something not right with the 19 of Arnold. The green was out and coming out of turn four, the leader, Steve Arnold shut the car down and coasted down the front that brought the yellow back out and would retire Arnold to the pits for the night with mechanical problems. Full Moon brought out wrecks, flips and a wedding at PGS

Story and results from 9-10

The night started out with remembering those we lost, prayer and a salute given by Chaplin Dick Stone from Storm Ministries in remembering 911, then the flag at half mast during the playing of our Nation Anthem. The sun went down and the full moon came out which brought wrecks, flips and even a Wedding to PGS on a hot summer night.

Pro 4 class started the night off with a 25 lap featured event that usually runs caution free, was it really the full moon that brought a caution before the first lap was scored. After some words of wisdom to some drivers from the flagman, the cars were lined back up and and the green was out. What looked to be advice well taken as the sixteen car field battle through sixteen laps with Naples driver Dylan Bigley out to the lead. Cody Allen from Lehigh fought his way up to challenge Bigley till a caution came out on lap sixteen, after a few more cautions and a few questionable restarts the checkered flag was out and all the rumors were put to rest as all sixteen cars were crossing the finish line. Who knew as the cars crossed the line to finish the race a few cars would “tangle” and the end results would be some innocent drivers sitting on the track with their cars tore up. The 04 of Ryan Collver crossed the line in first place with Dan Collver second and Bigley held on for third. (more…)
