Wiener Nationals Highlight End Of The 6th Month

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media – 8-25-12 (Ocala, FL) The Wiener Nationals came to Bubba Raceway Park for the first time in it’s 5-year history and “The Longdogs” put on a great charitable show. RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators also put on a wonderful night of racing.

Wiener Nationals were very exciting but no one could catch Wilhelm “Willie” Linebarier as he took title #4 with ease over a strong group of dogs including 2nd place Gator from the Sullivan Racing group and the 3rd placed Hammond Motorsports’ non-breed winner Lexi.

Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds started with Jeff Mathews leading a 1-2 for Mathews Motorsports. We’d go 3 laps before Bubba Christian spun on the backstretch. Dalton Lanich and Garret Stewart made contact on the restart which left Lanich very slow (though he would continue on) and stacked up Jim Passino, Gary Sexton, Wayne Hammond, Bubba Christian, and Chuck Gustafson, Jr. Mathews Motorsports led with Mathews leading Lloyd and Kyle Bronson sat in 3rd. East Bay Raceway Park to Provide Benefit for Alayna Torres and Family

Gibsonton, FL – Aug 23, 2012 – East Bay fans attending the race scheduled for Sept. 1 will be encouraged to donate to the Torres family to assist in medical costs and living assistance.  In Nov. of 2011, then two year old Alayna Torres was diagnosed with medullary epithelioma, a rare and extremely aggressive cancer.  Alayna is currently undergoing daily radiation treatment and will soon begin chemotherapy to treat tumors on her spine, lungs and her pelvic area.

Her father, Eric Torres is a native of Bradenton and is raising Alayna as a single parent.  The medical costs and care for Alayna have exhausted all of Eric’s funds and resources.  Eric was literally homeless until today when thanks to friends in the area, have provided him space in their home.

East Bay Raceway Park asks their fans, family and friends to donate as much as possible to help the Torres family during this difficult period.  Drivers and employees will be “passing the hat/helmet” throughout the evening to help offset the astronomical costs of treatment and care for Alayna.  “This is the most anyone has done to help Alayna and myself” said Eric.  “We are both thankful for everyone’s thoughts and prayers and any money they can donate is greatly appreciated.”

An account has been set up for Alayna at C1 Bank in Riverview, FL.  Donations can be made either by stopping by the bank or mailing your check to:

Allen Turner Series Pro Late Model 100 this Friday at 5 Flags Speedway

Just when we thought Mother Nature would never stop raining on our parade, she gave us a break last Friday Night and we saw some great racing action in front of one of the largest crowds in recent memory at 5 Flags Speedway. The best part, is that the momentum is sure to carry over to this Friday Night when we get back on our regular schedule with the return of the Allen Turner Series Pro Late Model 100, along with the West Florida Coatings Sportsmen and the Butler U Pull It Bombers.

Points leader Mike Garvey brings his Tracy Goodson owned Ford into Friday’s event as the PLM Points leader, aided by wins in the first two Series events. Augie Grill found Victory Lane in race #3. These two drivers will certainly feel the heat from some of the South’s finest racers, including Georgia Bulldog Dwayne Buggay, Houston Texan Brandon Bendele, San Antonio Spur Chris Davidson, Milton Panther Wayne Niedecken Jr., and well….the list goes on. It ought to be a barn burner!! (more…)

First Annual Bubba Army Wiener Nationals Runs In

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media, Ocala, FL – As Month 6 of the 9 month season at Bubba Raceway Park comes to a close we watch some points battles tighten up as others become a 1-or-2-man battle. The RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators will end the Second Third while the dogs will take to the track! All proceeds of the Bubba Army Wiener Nationals will go to Angels have Whiskers!

Florida State Late Model Champion “The Magic Man” Mark Whitener leads the RaceCar Engineering Late Models standings by 91 points over Christian Augspurger who comes off of that big win last Friday night. Bo Allen holds onto 3rd and still sits within that beautiful 100-mark. Richard Ferry, along with Whitener and Augspurger, has a win this season but some rough luck has taken him quite a few points off of championship contention. Bryan Bernhardt has been fast all season and has shown constant improvement and a win may be just around the corner. In fact, Jeff Mathews, Jason Fitzgerald, and Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. (6th-8th in the standings) have each visited Coors Light Winner’s Circle and 10th and 11th place Tyler Ivey and Keith Nosbisch, respectively, have as well! The division is more wide-open then it has been in a long time and we could realistically see a 10-winner season. (more…)

Grossenbacher Tops Super Late Models at Citrus County Speedway

Citrus County Speedway roared back to life this past Saturday night, after taking a week off to beat the summer heat. Citrus County Speedway fans were treated to 78 cars and drivers filling the pit area for an action packed night of racing.

13 Super Late Models took the green for their 35 lap feature event with Scott Grossenbacher (09) on the pole position and Randy Anderson (4) along side. You had the feeling that which ever driver won the drag race to turn 1, would go on to take the victory. Grossenbacher would win that drag race, moving to the lead before lap 1 was completed. Anderson would try to keep pace with Grossenbacher, hoping for a mistake by the leader. That mistake would never come, and the race would go green for the entire 35 lap distance. Grossenbacher would go on to take his 1st feature win of the 2012 season, with Anderson settling for a distant 2nd. Drew Brannon (82) was you biggest mover of the race, coming from the 10th starting spot, to take home the 3rd position at the checkers. (more…)

Conclusion Of The Florida State Thunder Stock Championship

Jim Rouse, Ocala, FL (8-18-12) – As the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks completed their Florida State Championship the RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars, and the Hobby Stocks put on a show not soon to be forgotten.

Hobby Stocks went first and outside pole sitter Mark Maresca took a wild ride very similar to the one he took nearly a year ago only this time it was 1 roll rather than a bunch. Joe Boyd would lead early on before a lap 3 caution for Scott Haas. Haas would allow Tim Powers and Tim Gay to close in on race leader Boyd. Under caution Hunter Gustafson, who was having a strong run, was parked for not having the Raceceiver all drivers are required to have. Just 2 laps later Richard Calmes, Jr. and Mick Kulak made contact that would destroy body work on both cars. The restart saw Tim Gay and Rodney Wright, who were fighting for 3rd, make contact- Wright went around and Gay went to the tail. (more…)

Smith Defends Demolition Derby Title; Buttrick Runs Away with 50- Lap Sportsman Spectacular, $1K

The back end of Ronnie Smith’s Crown Victoria was completely crunched, folded up nearly beyond the back tires.  And this was the winning car.  Welcome to the Demolition Derby.  Smith, a former Allen Turner Pro Late Model champion, successfully defended the Demo Derby title he won last year, thrilling a capacity crowd along the way.  “I do it for the fans,” Smith said. “I came out here and tested the other day. No, I’m just kidding.”  The “Master of Disaster” had to do some improvising late in the crash fest when the throttle became stuck wide open.  Smith was forced to run with his brake. Amazingly enough, it worked to perfection as he finished off the win when he nearly put Robert Balkum’s camouflage car on its side.  Smith crawled out of the wreckage and lifted his hands high as the fans roared with delight. The Florida State Thunder Stock Championship

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media  8-17-12 (Ocala, FL) – The Florida State Thunder Stock Championship started with a bang as the RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, and Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks joined the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks for a wonderful night of racing.

First up were the Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks and they went before the intermission. A 1 caution race happened as Reid Christensen spun in turn 2 on lap 2. That left Buddy Pope to dominate as he won by half-a-lap over Travis Staats and Charlie Staats. Christensen would finish 4th and Fisher would round out the top 5.

Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models put on a 15-lapper with Phillip Cobb the early leader. On lap 6 Billy Holmes’ #7 put oil down (see NASCAR Watkins Glen race) and the leaders slipped through it- Officials gave David Showers, Jr., the only man to lose position due to the oil, his spot back as the #118 literally did a 360 in the oil.
