Jessica Murphy tops FUPTS 50 at Citrus County Speedway

Citrus County Speedway fans were treated to two 50 lap feature events on Saturday night as the Florida United Pro Truck Series and the Pure Stocks both went the extra distance. The night got underway with time trial qualifying for the trucks and Pure Stocks. When the dust settled, Jessica Murphy took top honors in the truck division, and Michael Martin to the honors in the Pure Stocks.

17 Pro Trucks took the green with Tim Sozio (16x) and Gerald Campbell (2x) occupying the front row, fast qualifier Murphy would start in the 3rd position. Sozio would jump out the early lead with Murphy settling into 2nd, and Brent Hubar (64) in 3rd. The top three would run unchanged until the 1st caution at lap 12 would slow the field for a restart. Truck series rules call for double file restarts, so Sozio would now have the fast qualifier Murphy, just to his outside. Murphy would power by on the restart green, to take the lead in the outside lane. Hubar would also find a way by Sozio to take the 2nd position just ahead of Brad Bowman (2) in 3rd. (more…)

Triple Double

Jim Rouse, BRP Media (9-7-12) – Ocala, FL – The Demolition Derby and Powder Puff Derby were a great addition to the Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators. With the 3 regular divisions making up a feature from mid-July in addition to a regular night of racing it was the most exciting racing of 2012.

First up was the Hobby Stock make-up race with Scott Haas the leader from outside pole as a caution came out for Chad Scranton’s flattened right rear tire. Sean Monaghan had a tough opening to the race as he hit everything but the pace car before he stopped and brought the 2nd caution out. Rodney Wright would steal the lead out of turn 4 on the restart while Tim Powers attempted to swallow Haas up. Chad Scranton methodically worked through the field and was up to P4 after Haas retired just past halfway. Wright and Powers fought like brothers over the last dozen laps. Rodney Wright won the fight with Powers 2nd. Trevor Gamble was nearly a lap down in 3rd with Chad Scranton and Hunter Gustafson a lap down in 4th and 5th, respectively. (more…)

Florida Untied Pro-Truck Series Returns to Action this Saturday Night !

Orlando FL – After a summer break the Florida United Pro-Truck series gets back to action this Saturday night at Citrus County Speedway. The previous event at Citrus was said by many to be one of the best short track races they had seen in a long time and best truck race they had ever seen. Great door to door action throughout the field was seen by the great crowd on hand.

” We had a great race the last time hear and our group of drivers have put on action filled events at every track, but Citrus just stands out as one of the best. I am hoping and expecting more of the same this time” said series director Rick Bristol.

” We also have added Shawn Reutimann to the team and he will be the race director going forward. His experience as a spotter for cousin David Reutimann in the Nascar trucks, nationwide and cup series will help him tremendously and he is a fair and professional guy, I am really happy to have him on board. The Fight For First

Jim Rouse, BRP Media, 9-3-12 Ocala, FL – As we begin the 7th month of our 9 month points-paying season at Bubba Raceway Park we have a spectacular show in store. The Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators will not only run their regular events but they will make up the rained-out features from mid-July. These races will be run in the sequence of Feature-Heat-Feature. Joining these 3 exciting divisions will be the Powder Puff Derby and the Demolition Derby!

So, after 6 months of racing Rodney Wright has a 32 point advantage over Trevor Gamble. They’ve had 16 features; how much closer can you get? Mike Stalnaker has been masterful with his under-powered equipment and a win is just around the corner and no one will be surprised. In 4th is Mark Maresca who, up until his last race, had been flying under the radar. Last time he was flying up front until he barrel-rolled the 77M. In 5th is Hunter Gustafson who has shown determination and improvement in his #15. Though the title contenders are very strong, he could find Coors Light Winner’s Circle and will be a massive threat for the title in 2013. (more…)

Sanders would settle into second, with Herb Neumann Jr (98) moving quickly to third. The first of three cautions would fly at lap 5 for contact between Drew Brannon (82) and George Gorham Jr (10). Gorham would go for a spin, but Brannon would take blame for the incident, and tag the rear for the restart. Grossenbacher paced the field on the restart, while Neumann went to work on Sanders for 2nd at the drop of the green. Neumann would find his way by Sanders for 2nd, and set his sights on the leader. Lap 10 saw the nights second caution for a three car incident in turn three. Amanda Ferguson (7) made and aggressive inside three wide pass attempt on the entry to the corner. All three drivers quickly ran out of room, sending fiberglass flying. (more…)
