BECCA MONOPOLI ZOOMS TO 50 LAP PRO TRUCK WIN AT ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD

20130525-012035.jpgThe Pro Trucks took center stage Friday night at Orlando SpeedWorld going for 50 laps in NASCAR Whelan All-American Series action joined by the Super Stocks, E-Modifieds and Strictly Stocks.

The ladies dominated Pro Truck qualifying with Becca Monopoli setting quick time over Whitney Poole. The pill draw saw the two reverse starting positions for the big feature race as Poole started from the pole with Monopoli on the outside of the front row. Monopoli snared the early lead while Gerald Campbell moved up to challenge Poole and made a pass for second on lap four. The race stayed green until John Hodge, subbing for Zach Curtis, spun off turn two on lap 21. On the restart, Campbell turned up the wick and led the 22nd lap only to see Monopoli back out front on the following lap. (more…)

The Biggest Week In Motorsports

BRP LogoOcala, FL- The professionals all have huge events this week-end (The Grand Prix of Monaco, The Indianapolis 500, and the World 600) but Bubba Raceway Park has a huge night of racing to challenge. The Bubba Army 360 Sprint Cars return while the Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Modifieds, the Bubba Army Hobby Stocks who will race for $750, the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators defend their turf.
The Bubba Army Sprint Cars have a shocker a top the standings- Danny Martin, Jr. is the leader. Okay, “The Hammer” has been here plenty of times but he does have Robbie Smith and “The Captain” Tony Agin on his tail. While Smith and Agin have been quite succesful at the 3/8 mile, neither has won in quite some time. Johnny Gilbertson made his first trip to Bubba Raceway Park in the Bubba Era and found himself P4 in the standings. Rookie driver Andy Cobb rounds out the top five after an impressive debut so far. It’s hammer down if they’re to beat “The Hammer”.
The Scorpion Modifieds see experience on top as the top two have won all four features this season. Buzzie Reutimann is the points leader and has been all year long; however, Jeff Mathews is just forty-four points behind. Mathews has won three-consecutive and is currently undefeated in Modified competition at the 3/8 mile. (more…)

KEENE DOMINATES PRO LATES – COKER TOPS LEGENDS AT ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD

Another good field of Legend Cars graced the pits Friday evening...Orlando SpeedWorld was back in action Friday night with some picture perfect weather as seven classes competed in NASCAR Whelan All-American Series action.
Daniel Keene slipped by early leader Ricky Moxley on lap 15 of the 25-lap Pro Late Model feature and went on to an easy victory slowed only by a lap 18 caution flag for a Zach Harris spin.  Keene set the pace to the checker with Moxley a strong second over Brock Oglesby, Harris and Steven Simpson. Keene also won the heat race.
Dave Gleason led the opening lap of the Legend Car feature only to be passed by Keith Sinkula and the second lap.  Sinkula’s time at the point was short-lived as heat winner Darin Coker grabbed the top spot on the third lap just before Gleason and Becca Monopoli tangled sending both strong-running cars to the rear of the field for the restart.  From that point, Coker and fellow South Florida driver Sinkula drove away from the field to finish one-two ahead of Mason Ketterman.  Gleason and Monopoli drove back through the field to finish fourth and fifth.  Rounding out the top ten were Tony Steinbuck, Paul Ingram, Ted Ruffo, Dallas Ingram and Roger Englund.  Coty Bibeau was unable to start due to a heat race crash. Campi Hangs on for Super Late Model Win at FTS

IMG_3724Scott Lockwood – For most of Saturday night’s 75-lap, Turner Tree and Landscaping, Super Late Model feature at Full Throttle Speedway, Sarasota’s Anthony Campi looked like he would cruise to an easy victory. But Riverview’s Joe Boyd had other ideas after staging a late rally of his own.

Campi and Boyd shared the front row for the night’s main event. Campi jumped out to an early lead and needed just 16 laps around the 3/8-mile oval to begin lapping traffic. By the time the race reached 25 laps, Campi had already lapped half the field.

The night’s first caution came out when Bradenton’s Dennis Colletti spun right in front of third-place running and Bradenton resident Jessie Dutilly on lap 27. On the restart, Campi flexed his muscles and pulled out to nearly a six-second lead at times over Boyd and Dutilly. On lap 53, Boyd and Dutilly found themselves spinning in turn one, but were allowed to keep their positions on the restart. (more…)

Josh Peacock Wins Late Model Feature Event At East Bay Raceway Park

Peacock-5-18-13-WinnerMay 18th, 2013 – Tampa, FL – It was a night of action here at East Bay Raceway Park. Late Models, Limited Late Models, Outlaw Fours, V8 Warriors and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers were all in action. But before the night got under way, a couple was here from Anchorage, Alaska on their honeymoon. Jessie and Chris Hawley decided to spend their evening here at East Bay Raceway Park.

The first feature of the night belonged to the Outlaw Fours. Winning their heats were Zach Amundsen and Dorsey Strickland and also made up the front row for the 15 lap feature event. When the green waved it was Strickland leading the way until lap five when Stephen Hohlbaugh took over the lead. The first caution came out on lap six when Brittany Yates and Megan Meyer tangled in turn four. When the green waved once again it was two laps later when Zach Amundsen spun in turn two after running in the second position. Green waved and it was still Hohlbaugh in first with Dorsey Strickland right behind him. It was on lap twelve when J.R. Baker hitting the front stretch wall while battling with Nick Hebrank for the third position coming out of turn four. When the checkered waved it was Hohlbaugh picking up his second win of the season with Jesse James Foster, Zach Amundsen, Nick Hebrank and Brittany Yates rounding out the top five. (more…)

First Timers and Four Timers

20130506-202550.jpgJim Rouse, Ocala, FL – The NeSmith Crate Late Models, Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds, Bubba Army Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators all tackled the 3/8 mile and it was intense for every one.

Buzzie Reutimann opened the Modifieds up with the lead but lost it to fellow heat race winner Jeff Mathews on lap 5. Reutimann actually spun on lap 8 and collected Paul Snyder which made both driver’s nights much more difficult. Cory Hupp spun on lap 16 setting up a 9-lap dash with Mathews leading team-mate Bryan Bernhardt and Chris Littrell. Mathews held his team-mate off for the win while Reutimann and Snyder rebounded to 3rd and 4th, respectively. Littrell rounded out the top 5.

Eric Moon jumped to P1 in the Hobby Stock event and held it through the lap 3 caution for a Don Woosley spin. On lap 8, Moon was overtaken by Brian Shea for the lead and retired on lap 14 after heavy contact with Jerome Dipple. James Erickson got around Shea and then they spun each other after Shea ran out of talent. In the end, Don Woosley took home a huge win simply by surviving (and making his mistake early). Erickson finished 2nd over Shea, heat race winner Rebecca Paugh, and Chuck Cessna. James Sullivan, III won the other heat. (more…)
