DQ GIVES BECKNER 50-LAP MODIFIED WIN AT ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD

Orlando Speedworld LogoThe rain finally held off for once at Orlando SpeedWorld and fans were treated
to some good NASCAR Whelan All-American Series racing on a warm, muggy night.
The Modified class was top bill of the evening going for 50 laps in their
feature.  Earl Beckner of Orlando was quickest in time trials turning a lap at
14.62 seconds just ahead of Lakeland’s Josh Todd who turned in a lap at
14.78.
Pole sitter Roger Benton grabbed the early lead and was looking strong until
Shain Held went for a spin on lap two off the bumper of Todd’s machine.  Todd
was sent to the rear of the field for the restart while Held got his spot
back.  Benton continued to lead the way but began to get pressure from
Beckner.  On lap ten, Beckner dove low into turn three to try and make a pass
and just barely touched the left rear tire of Benton’s car sending Beckner
into a wild slide.  Beckner restarted the event from the tail of the field.
On the restart, Benton’s car began to slide backwards, victim of a cut tire
from the incident with Beckner.  Todd moved his car to the front and began to
check out.  Lap 22 saw Beckner, his teammate Jason Vail and Matt Wheeler lock
horns in turn four.  There was no significant damage and all three continued.
Just as the field got the halfway signal on lap 25, Wheeler tangled with Matt
Jarrett on the front stretch and hit the wall.  The crash eliminated both
drivers from the race while Vail also took his car to the sidelines. (more…)

Fathers And Kids Rewarded At Bubba Raceway Park

BRP LogoOcala, FL- The NeSmith Crate Late Models, Bubba Army Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, Rent-N-Roll Gladiators, and Limited Late Models all attacked the 3/8 mile for that shining moment in Coors Light Winner’s Circle.
Action opened up with the Limited Late Models, and Dale Pope took the early lead from outside pole. On lap seven, Pope and Tyler Clem saw trouble hit as Clem spun trying to grab the lead, and Pope had a tire go down soon after. Nevin Gainey would inherit the lead, but Forrest Gough stole that lead away on the restart. Clem fought his way up through the pack, and he found himself behind Gough until lap thirteen as that’s when the young driver made his move. Clem walked away to win his first career race at just ten years old, and neither him nor his father would stop smiling in Twenty-one Means Twenty-one Victory Lane. The Tony Stewart Racing Developmental Driver was quite excited to give his dad a father’s day gift, one that neither will ever forget. Gough again found himself the runner-up with Gainey, 2012 champion JO Nobles, and Dale Pope the top five. (more…)

What Rain?

20130609-095717.jpgOcala, FL- Bubba Raceway Park had 6 divisions on tap as all other tracks in Florida suffered with the water. The Late Models, Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds, E-Mods, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators all put on spectacular shows and left the fans wanting more of the excitement!

The Hobby Stocks opened the night up, and Brian Morgan took his #9 straight to the top. The opening half saw a coupld of cautions for spins by Bubba Christian, but Donnie Ashford couldn’t muster up enough to get around Morgan. Ashford brought out the final yellow with 4-to-go after a spin in turn 2. Morgan fended the pack off and went back-to-back, the first driver to do so in the division this season. “The Bridesmaid” Scotty Kay, Jr. has been cursed with that nickname until he can go 1 spot better as he finished 2nd for the 3rd time. Rodney Wright finished 3rd with Dennis Williams and Trent Wilson the top 5.

RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY – ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD WANTS TO PLAY!

Orlando Speedworld LogoEveryone is hoping that the tropical system affecting Florida this week will continue to move swiftly off to the northeast so that Orlando SpeedWorld can get back to NASCAR Whelan All-American Series action Friday night. Disappointing is the only way you could describe things last Saturday as the pits were full with racers and fans were filing in for what looked to be a fantastic program. Seventeen TBARA Sprint Cars were already in attendance with a few others waiting in the wings checking the weather before what started as a brief shower turned into a full-blown sea breeze collision that dumped at least two inches of rain, forcing cancellation of the program. The event will be made up on Saturday, July 27. This week, the Super Late Models return to competition and will be joined by the E-Modifieds, Pro Trucks, Super Stocks and Strictly Stocks. Pit gates open at 4 pm with grandstands open at 6 pm. Racing begins at 8 pm. Adult admission is $12 with kids aged 12 and under free of charge.

Six Divisions To Tackle Bubba Raceway Park This Saturday

Bubba Raceway Park Logo copyJim Rouse, BRP Media Ocala, FL – The Bubba Army Late Models will return for the first time since April 6th, and they will be joined by the Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Open-Wheel Modifieds, Bubba Army Hobby Stocks, Bubba Raceway Park E-Mods, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators. The Hobby Stocks will battle for $600 and the E-Mods will fight for a $750 payday.
After a long rest, the Bubba Army Late Models return to Bubba Raceway Park with Anthony’s Rich Pratt on top of the standings. While that may be familar and deserving for Pratt, he has yet to fulfill the final part of his mission- visit Coors Light Winner’s Circle. He’s already done that in the Modified ranks, but has yet to do so in his AirGas-sponsored Late Model that is now in his former colors. Just fifteen points behind him is Versailes, Indiana’s Bryan Bernhardt, the Bubba Army Performance Engines #B69 driver who took his Crate Late Model to the top earlier this year. Bernhardt, now trying to master three disciplines, hopes to steal the spotlight- and with it, the points lead- from Pratt. Placed third is the Wells Farms driver out of Jacksonville, “The DeRailer” Darrell Padgett. Padgett won the last race, but any advantage from then may be gone. (more…)
