Augie Grill had a dream ride.

On a nightmarish Friday the 13th for the top three in points, Grill could’ve had the top off of his No. 112 Super Late Model.

The two-time Snowball Derby champion looked to be in late-season form, lapping all but seven of the 17-car field to capture the Miller Lite 100 on Friday at Five Flags Speedway.

Josh Hamner, in his Kyle Busch-owned No. 51, finished a distant second with Donnie Wilson in third.

“It’s actually just like it was in the last race,” said Grill, who won his second consecutive Blizzard Series race. “We didn’t do a thing to it. We had six laps of practice and we put it back because it just felt good. We know what it feels like here.” (more…)

JAMES WRIGHT III GETS FIRST OWM WIN OF THE YEAR AT AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY

by Dave Westerman

Dodging rain storms all evening long, Auburndale Speedway put on yet another great show for the fans who braved the forecast as James Wright III picked up his first win of the year in the Open Wheel Modifieds picking up some extra cash from race sponsor Florida’s Barn.

A very disappointing field of just nine Open Wheel Modifieds made the trip to the speedway with many no-shows blaming the weather conditions for not being there. The only rain to hit the area though was just before the pit gates opened at 2PM and it lasted just shy of an hour. The only other precipitation that fell was a light drizzle just before race time as all the other heavier showers missed the track and eventually the fans were treated to an awesome sunset. (more…)

Hot August Action at East Bay

By:  Larry Jewett

8/7/2010

Five divisions presented an exciting program as action in August was ushered in at East Bay Raceway Park.

The night started with sad news of the passing of longtime track announcer Jack Miller. The veteran microphone master, well respected in the Sprint Car community, had thrilled fans for many seasons at the oval and served as an inspiration for those who followed in the chair. (more…)

Volusia Speedway Park Rained out August 7th

Wieners Are No Match For Nature At Volusia
by VSP Media

BARBERVILLE, FL-  Although everyone connected with Volusia Speedway Park was wishing hard for good weather for Saturday night, nature failed to pay attention and peppered the area with multiple showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.  And after the speedway was hit with the second round of rain at about 3PM in the afternoon, race officials decided that to attempt to race was only asking for trouble.  There were too many storms on radar with high potential of hitting the track, and the surface was already on the verge of being too wet to salvage anyway.

So with the postponement of racing announced, VSP management immediately began working on schedule changes in order to make up at least some of the rained out events.  No decision has been announced for making up the 3rd Annual Wiener Nationals dog races, but the $1000 to win Taylor Racing Products Sportsman race will be made up on September 18th.  That night will feature the $1000 to win race, plus the Top Gun Sprint Car Series, and Volusia’s own Budweiser Modifieds and Daytona Sportswear Street Stocks.

According to VSP management, more adaptations to the previously posted racing schedule will be made as circumstances warrant, so racers and fans should be sure to double check the schedule posted at www.VolusiaSpeedwayPark.net for changes as those become finalized.  VSP Media will also announce changes to the racing schedule on an “as needed” basis.

Volusia Speedway Park will be back in action on Saturday, August 14th with “Back To School Night” and five divisions of exciting racing competition.  Fans will see the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Late Models, the Budweiser Modifieds, the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, the Amsoil Thunder Stocks, plus the 4 Cylinder Challengers.
