ZEIGLER ZIPS TO VICTORY LANE AT EAST BAY FINALE

ZeiglerTAMPA, FL (February 13, 2016) – Mason Zeigler pulled a major upset by winning the finale of the 40th Annual Winternationals on Saturday Night at East Bay Raceway Park. Zeigler passed race leader Scott Bloomquist on lap 23 and held off the Hall-of-Fame driver to capture the biggest win of his career in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned event.

A packed grandstand stood on its collective feet as Bloomquist charged to the inside of Zeigler on the final lap, but his charge fell one car length short as the 23-year-old Pennsylvania driver crossed the line first.

Bloomquist finished second, followed by 10th starting Dennis Erb Jr., Gregg Satterlee, and Darrell Lanigan.

“I just worked my tires so hard to get to the lead,” said Zeigler, who started fourth on the grid. “I didn’t think my right rear would survive the whole race, so I focused on slowing down once I got by him [Bloomquist]. (more…)

Davenport Prevails Again at East Bay Winternationals

DavenportTAMPA, FL (February 12, 2016) – Jonathan Davenport passed Scott Bloomquist with ten laps to go and went on to win the Winternationals event on Friday Night. Davenport’s win was his second of the week in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competition at East Bay Raceway Park.

Trailing Davenport and Bloomquist to the checkered flag were Darrell Lanigan, Don O’Neal, and Tim McCreadie.

“Just like last night, I gave it all I had. I saved my equipment and my tires. We still have electrical issues with this motor. It was breaking up so bad, that I could only run three-quarters of the throttle until the end of the race. Lee Roy [Rumley] told me if it was skipping too badly, to pull it in. I only ran the first five laps with it skipping,” said a smiling Davenport afterwards.

Bloomquist took off and led the caution-plagued event until Davenport went by him coming to the flagstand on lap 40. Before that, Davenport had a hard-fought battle with Lanigan for second. He broke away from that and was able to challenge Bloomquist for the top spot.

“This Longhorn Chassis; Kevin Rumley he has got this thing working great. With all of the stuff going on, we are as good as we were last year. With all the cautions, I don’t think it helped tire wear any. I couldn’t take off at the starts. It took a couple of laps to get the heat back in them.” (more…)

Max Blair Repeats History At East Bay Raceway Park Winning Crate Late Model Race

MAX BLAIR LIKED EAST BAY RACEWAY PARK AS A KID COMING WITH HIS FATHER, BUT HE LIKES IT BETTER AS A DRIVER WHO CONTINUES HIS WINNING WAYS FOR A SECOND YEAR IN THE SUNSHINE STATE

Max BlairTampa, FL (2/5/16) – The 40th Annual East Bay Raceway Park Winternationals for Crate Late Models got underway on Friday February 5 after a one day delay for rain, but Max Blair put the time to good use and kept up to the race track and dialed his new Rocket chassis in perfectly for the $2,500 to win race.

It was off to a rough start as many yellows were displayed to the field as Ken Monahan and Mike Pegher, Jr .brought the field to the green for the first of 35 laps, but it was Pegher, Jr. who led the way after several attempts and got things going with Blair close behind. The two survived several more restarts until got by on lap 12 to take the lead briefly but not for long as Pegher regained the top spot one lap later.

But action came to a halt on lap 15 when Ralph Morgan, Jr. got upside down and Jimmy Sharpe, Jr. landed on top of him resulting in seven more cars being collected, and fortunately no drivers were injured. When the race continued Pegher led for two more laps before Blair took command in his new Rocket. (more…)

Bronson Bullies His Way to East Bay Win

a1TAMPA, FL (February 1, 2016) – The fourth and final night of racing at East Bay Raceway Park for the Sunshine State Modified Tour (SSMT) was capped off with a wild 25-lap main event. After being involved in a big pile up at the midpoint of the race, Kyle Bronson rallied to pick up the victory.

Allen Weisser and the winner of the inaugural SSMT A-main, Kevin Adams, lined up on the front row. Adams jumped out to the early lead in a race that was stricken early by multiple cautions. Devin Dixon looked strong at the get go as he made the pass on Weisser for second. Bronson, who started in the fifth position, looked to be the class of the field, however, as he quickly moved up to third on lap two.

As the leaders charged into turn one on lap three, Bronson made a bold move to the outside of Dixon, but got crossed up at the exit of the corner. Bronson slid across the race track in front of the field where he collected six other competitors before everybody came to rest. As a result, four drivers were forced to retire from the event due to extensive damage, including Sunday night’s winner Roger Crouse.

Bronson was able to continue racing despite damage to the front end of his Brandon Ford number 40B and restarted back in the 13th position. Within six laps Bronson had moved up into the top three and set his sights on Adams and Dixon. On lap 10 Bronson moved by Dixon for second and flew by Adams for the lead on the following lap. Crouse Cruises to Sunshine State Modified Tour Victory at East Bay

af-660x400By Mike Spieker – TAMPA, FL (January 31, 2016) – Round number three of the Sunshine State Modified Tour, presented by Dirt Nation and Hoosier Racing Tire, had 43 Modifieds signed in to battle at East Bay Raceway Park for the Sunday night showdown.

Roger Crouse put his Beak Built Chassis in victory lane with a dominating performance in the 30 lap A-main.

Crouse and Trent Young of Crofton, KY sat on the front row of the 25 car main event. Crouse grabbed the early advantage as Young and Tait Davenport ran door to door for the second spot. Young retained the position, but a relentless Davenport stole the position while running along the cushion on lap nine.

A series of cautions then plagued the race as Crouse was forced to hold off Davenport and Young time after time on the restarts. Crouse did so successfully and with relative ease, as he chose to run in the moisture on the low side of the speedway each and every time. (more…)
