Ronnie Chance Tops Open Wheel Mods At NFS

\

By Jeff Bean

Fans were treated to another great night of racing action Saturday at North Florida Speedway and the kids had some special events of their own. Intermission brought a chance for the younger fans to get a ride along in a race car and that was followed up by an Easter Egg Hunt. The excitement of the kids to ride in a real race car created a buzz that could be felt and heard by all of those in attendance. A big thank you to all the drivers who particapated is in order but many of the drivers were just as excited as the kids. Ronnie Chance took top honors in the Burkins Chevrolet Open Wheel Modifieds. Nevin Gainey won the Sportsman main event with Randy Moody emerging on top of the Street Stock field. Kevin Underwood took down another Box Stock win and Chip Owen returned to action and claimed the victory in the Pure Stocks. (more…)

Citrus County Speedway gets set for the 50 lap Sportsman race with a twist!

Midweek race report from Tony Modica & John Chance

Inverness, FL – This weekend’s 50 lap Sportsman race at Citrus County Speedway will have a new twist and will be a cone race!

For those of you familiar with the Madhouse TV show from last year you’ll know exactly what this is all about.Every restart has the opportunity to be a double file restart, it’s up to the drivers. One lap before each restart the track will put a cone in the center of the track at the flag stand, when each driver reaches that cone, they must pick the inside or outside lane. If the first three spots all pick the bottom, then the 4th place car could choose the outside of the cone and start outside the front row for the restart. If the top eight pick the bottom, 9th could pick the outside! The leader could even pick the top if he thought it was the faster way around! Once the driver picks the top or bottom, he must stay in that lane for the restart. You could have fifthteen cars lined up on the inside and only five on the outside!

Ernie Reed leads the Sportsman points standings with a feature and a heat this season.

The Open Wheel Modifieds are back in action with a great battle for the points lead, St Pete driver and current points leader  Bobby Ervien is coming into saturday nights action with a three point advantage over Richie Smith,Smith leads all Open Wheel Modified drivers with two feature wins.

Street Stocks will be at it again this saturday ,current points leader Curtis Flanagan has had a very solid start in 2011,coming home second last week.Curtis has a thirty eight point advantage over Bubba Martone.

The Taylor Made Homes Pure Stocks are coming off their 50 lap race last weekend with Levi Roberts scoring his second points win of the season,Roberts is currently fourth in the points standings.David Walls is your current points leader.

Sheldon Palmes Mini Stocks return, and are expected to continue with some great racing, the new points leader is Sonya Heater,Heater is just three points ahead of Kevin Stone.

Also, this saturday making their second stop of the season to Citrus County Speedway will be the South East Champ Kart Series.

Qualifying for the Sportsmans starts at 5:30 and racing starts at 6:00.
