Swindell Sails to Win No. 11 with Dominant Performance at Grays Harbor

Dollansky Finishes Second to Maintain World of Outlaws Championship Points Lead

ELMA, Wash. – Aug. 29, 2012 – Things are getting back to normal for Sammy Swindell.

He found himself in Victory Lane for the second consecutive World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event and the third time in the last five races on Wednesday night at the scenic Grays Harbor Raceway, which hosted its first Outlaws race since 2008.

It was his series-leading 11th victory of the season and moved him to a tie for second place in the championship standings – only 39 points behind leader Craig Dollansky.

“This is the best we’ve got so hopefully it just carries on through the rest of the year,” said Swindell, who hadn’t won at Grays Harbor Raceway since 1997.

“We did have maybe six, eight weeks there where we weren’t where we needed to be and was struggling some. We found out the reason for that and rectified that, fixed all that stuff and we’re back to where we were at the first part of the year.” (more…)

World of Outlaws Return to Calistoga Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 9

The rain-delayed sprint car event is part of the five-race California Outlaw Speedweek

CALISTOGA, Calif. – Aug. 28, 2012 – It’s been a long rain delay, but the patient California sprint car fans are in for a treat in early September.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to the Golden State with a unique California Outlaw Speedweek, featuring five races in as many days. Sandwiched in the middle of the weekend is the lone event at Calistoga Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 9.

The race, which was originally scheduled for March 31, succumbed to heavy rain.

“We rained out earlier there this year and to go back and make that show up should be great for the fans out there and it’ll be good for all of us to get in there and get some racing done,” said Craig Dollansky, who won at Calistoga Speedway in 2006.

The 59th annual Gold Cup kicks off the Speedweek Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 6-8, at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. The teams will then head approximately 130 miles southeast toward the coast for the event at Calistoga Speedway before wrapping up the California schedule on Monday, Sept. 10, at Antioch Speedway in Antioch. Coffey Shoots For First-Ever World of Outlaws Late Model Series Win In Tour’s Inaugural Visit To Little Valley Speedway

Wednesday (Aug. 29) Event Brings Series Regular To New York Track Where He Captured The Only Victory Of His Dirt Late Model Career

LITTLE VALLEY, NY – Aug. 27, 2012 – Vic Coffey has endured enough heartbreak in his pursuit of an A-Main triumph on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. He’s ready to break down the door to Victory Lane – now.

There might not be a better track for Coffey to take his next shot at a World of Outlaws checkered flag than Little Valley Speedway, which hosts the national tour for the first time on Wednesday night (Aug. 29). The half-mile fairgrounds oval is, of course, the site of the only feature win of Coffey’s dirt Late Model career to date.

“I really like that place,” said Coffey, who captured an unsanctioned dirt Late Model event at Little Valley on Sept. 9, 2007. “I won the first time I ever ran there and we’ve been good every time we’ve been there since then, so I’m definitely looking forward to the Outlaw show. If there’s a track where I feel good about our chances of finally knocking off one of these Outlaw races, it’s Little Valley.” (more…)

Thunderstorm Washes Out Inaugural World of Outlaws Late Model Series Event At Selinsgrove Speedway

SELINSGROVE, PA – Aug. 26, 2012 – Late-afternoon thunderstorms drenched Selinsgrove Speedway on Sunday, forcing the cancelation of the historic central Pennsylvania track’s highly anticipated World of Outlaws Late Model Series event.

Forty-two cars were unloaded in the pit area and ready for action when the skies darkened and ultimately unloaded on the sprawling half-mile oval, prompting Selinsgrove promoter Charlie Paige to call off the evening’s Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling 50.

With no suitable date available on the WoO LMS schedule for a return to Selinsgrove this season, Paige and WoO LMS officials will look to the 2013 season to present the national tour’s first-ever race at the speedway. (more…)

Swindell Captures Castrol Raceway’s Sixth annual Oil City Cup

Hafertepe Jr. unhappy with late-race pass that nets Swindell his 10th Outlaws win

EDMONTON, Alberta – Aug. 25, 2012 – Sam Hafertepe Jr. won’t be inviting Sammy Swindell over for a barbecue any time soon.

The duo nearly touched racing for the lead with two laps remaining on a brisk Saturday evening at Castrol Raceway, where Swindell edged Hafertepe Jr. to claim Night 2 of the Sixth annual Oil City Cup and his 10th World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series feature win of the season.

“I definitely had the better car,” Hafertepe Jr said. “He had to pretty much drive through us to pass us. That’s part of it sometimes. We’ll do the same thing when the option comes around (to) my turn.”

Hafertepe Jr., who seized the lead from World of Outlaws championship points leader Craig Dollansky in thick traffic on lap six, had the dominant car until a caution with four laps remaining. It erased a half a straightaway lead and gave Swindell a renewed shot at the victory.

While Hafertepe Jr.’s car became tight running the cushion, Swindell powered around the bottom within striking distance for two laps after the restart. Then, opportunity arose as Hafertepe Jr. had a slight bobble in turn two. (more…)

Wet Weather Forces Cancelation Of Saturday Night’s World of Outlaws Late Model Series Action At Winchester Speedway

WINCHESTER, VA – Aug. 25, 2012 – Wet weather forced the cancelation of Saturday night’s World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at Winchester Speedway.

With light rain arriving during the afternoon and a dire forecast calling for a large swath of heavier precipitation to soon overtake the area, Winchester promoter Greg Gunter made the decision to call off the program early in an effort to save fans and racers from traveling to the three-eighths-mile oval.

No suitable raindate for the Ernie D’s & Gunter’s Honey 50 is available on the WoO LMS schedule, so Gunter will look to the 2013 season to bring the national tour to Winchester.

Saturday’s rainout is the fourth of the 2012 WoO LMS season and the third event that was not rescheduled.

The WoO LMS moves on to Selinsgrove (Pa.) Speedway on Sunday evening (Aug. 26) for the Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling 50. The tour will visit the half-mile oval for the first time.

BELLEVILLE, IL – Aug. 24, 2012 – The World of Outlaws Late Model Series has added a date on Fri., Sept. 14, at Belle-Clair Speedway, setting up a big weekend doubleheader for fans in the St. Louis area.

A $10,000 top prize from the richest purse in Belle-Clair’s history will be on the line in the inaugural ‘Photobilly 50,’ a race that will be run in honor of late photographer Charles Haffer Jr. A well-known figure in St. Louis racing circles, Haffer – aka ‘Photobilly’ – lost his life on Aug. 7 at the age of 44 in a tragic Iowa highway accident while traveling to a race.

Dollansky Cruises to Oil City Cup Victory at Castrol Raceway

The Points Leader Paces all 30 laps to Claim his Seventh Outlaws Win of the Season

EDMONTON, Alberta – Aug. 24, 2012 – It took Craig Dollansky a while to reach Victory Lane on a chilly Friday, but it didn’t take him long to start celebrating.

Dollansky released a loud roar as he climbed onto the back of his sprint car after leading all 30 laps on the opening night of the Sixth annual Oil City Cup at Castrol Raceway. It was his seventh World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory of the season and gives him a 35-point advantage in the championship standings.

“It was one of the best cars we’ve had in a while so it was a lot of fun to drive,” he said. “It’s fun to be up here with these Canadian fans, getting the win in front of them tonight.”

Dollansky, who started the feature on the outside of the front row next to arguably the hottest driver in the country – Donny Schatz – powered to the lead on the opening lap. Kerry Madsen then got around Schatz, who had won four of the previous seven events, for second place at the flag stand on lap nine. (more…)
