The rain-delayed sprint car event is part of the five-race California Outlaw Speedweek

CALISTOGA, Calif. – Aug. 28, 2012 – It’s been a long rain delay, but the patient California sprint car fans are in for a treat in early September.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to the Golden State with a unique California Outlaw Speedweek, featuring five races in as many days. Sandwiched in the middle of the weekend is the lone event at Calistoga Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 9.

The race, which was originally scheduled for March 31, succumbed to heavy rain.

“We rained out earlier there this year and to go back and make that show up should be great for the fans out there and it’ll be good for all of us to get in there and get some racing done,” said Craig Dollansky, who won at Calistoga Speedway in 2006.

The 59th annual Gold Cup kicks off the Speedweek Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 6-8, at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. The teams will then head approximately 130 miles southeast toward the coast for the event at Calistoga Speedway before wrapping up the California schedule on Monday, Sept. 10, at Antioch Speedway in Antioch.

The Outlaws last competed at Calistoga Speedway on April 2, 2011, when Jason Sides picked up his first World of Outlaws feature win at the half-mile track. He became the 15th different driver to win at Calistoga Speedway in 25 Outlaws events since 1978.

“I’ve always enjoyed running there at Calistoga,” said Sammy Swindell, who won World of Outlaws features in 1999, 1997 and 1990. “We’ve had a lot of wins there and it’s a nice place to visit, too.”

Tickets for the Calistoga Speedway event can be ordered online by clicking WorldofOutlaws.com/tickets or by calling 877-395-8606. Additionally, all advance reserved ticket holders will receive a free fan pit pass.
