Schatz Notches Sixth World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Win of the Year

Five-time champion charges from fifth to victory at Minnesota’s Jackson Speedway

20130608-141535.jpgJACKSON, Minn. – June 14, 2013 – Donny Schatz drove to his sixth World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series victory on Friday night in the Big Game Shootout Presented by Eyecon Trail Cameras at Jackson Speedway.

Schatz started the 30-lap feature on the inside of the third row in his Tony Stewart Racing STP/Armor All J&J and quickly worked his way to the front. By lap 10 he had moved into second behind points leader Daryn Pittman, then exchanged the lead with Pittman from laps 13 through 15.

When a caution flew with 14 laps in the books, Pittman used the restart to run out to another quick lead in the Kasey Kahne Racing Great Clips GF1, but the restart was called back when officials declared David Gravel had jumped too soon.

Schatz learned from that start and would not be beaten again. As he and Pittman charged into turn one, Pittman again went to the bottom, but this time Schatz made the high-side work and powered around Pittman. Schatz pulled away as best he could, navigating through traffic but still maintaining his advantage to the checkered flag for the series-leading sixth time this season. (more…)

Bloomquist Rolls To Record Sixth Victory In Dirt Late Model Dream XIX by Ferris Commercial Mowers At Eldora Speedway

Hall of Fame Driver Authors Vintage Performance To Bank Another $100,000 First-Place Prize

Bloomquist-Eldora-Short-TrackROSSBURG, OH – June 8, 2013 – Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tenn., authored another vintage performance at Eldora Speedway to capture Saturday night’s 100-lap Dirt Late Model Dream XIX Presented by Ferris Commercial Mowers.

Simultaneously ending a rare five-year absence from Victory Lane at Tony Stewart’s famed high-banked, half-mile oval and busting out of an early-season slump, Bloomquist methodically marched forward to take the lead from Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis., on lap 65 and dominated the remainder of the distance. The 49-year-old easily handled two late-race restarts to claim the DIRTcar UMP-sanctioned event’s $100,000 top prize for a record sixth time.

“It’s been kind of a rough spring,” said Bloomquist. “We’ve not had the wins that we are used to or accustomed to. We’ve had a lot of bad luck, just a lot of crazy things happening to us. It’s been bad, but I told everybody (entering the Dream), ‘This is gonna turn around. It’s gonna turn around quick and big. We’re gonna go win this hundred-grand. That will be the end of this bad luck streak.’ (more…)

Seven Lead Changes Highlight Tim Kaeding’s World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series Victory at Kokomo Speedway

Californian earns fifth victory of the season, takes Indiana championship

20130528-200409.jpgKOKOMO, Ind. – June 5, 2013 – Four different drivers shared the lead seven times in Wednesday night’s World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series 40-lap feature at Kokomo Speedway before Tim Kaeding finally edged Shane Stewart to win his fifth race of the season.

For Kaeding, of San Jose, Calif., it wasn’t the third time that was the charm, but the fourth at the quarter-mile bullring. Kaeding led the opening circuit of the 40-lap A-main, Jason Sides led the second lap, Kaeding went back in front on lap three, Shane Stewart then took over for the next eight laps before Kaeding again moved to the point after 13 laps and led another six before turning it over to Kyle Larson.

Larson started to take control, but then he found trouble navigating through traffic and made contact with a car he was trying to lap, dropping him back through the field and again moving Kaeding to the front on Lap 33. From that point to the checkered flag Kaeding was able to maintain the lead, although Stewart closed quickly and cut the margin of victory to only .18 seconds. (more…)
