Marlar Captures World of Outlaws Late Model Series Victory at Tazewell Speedway

Tennessee Driver Tops Clanton, Eckert for His First Series Win in 50-Lap Feature

041214_Tazewell_VL2By Chris Tilley, TAZEWELL, Tenn. – Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., took advantage of Tim McCreadie’s misfortune and went on to capture Saturday night’s Scion of Knoxville 50 World of Outlaws Late Model Series A-Main at Tazewell Speedway.

This was Marlar’s first-career World of Outlaws Late Model Series victory, and he became the series’ seventh different winner this season in seven races after holding off Shane Clanton and Rick Eckert to the checkered flag as championship leader Darrell Lanigan finished fourth with last year’s top rookie Eric Wells rounding out the top five.

“We actually scaled back on racing this year and I think we’re going to have one of our best year’s yet,” said an excited Marlar in victory lane.

“My steering is bent, my arms are tired, but with all the help from my family and friends, Ronnie Delk (car owner), all of the work they put in, we’re going stay in there and drive it all we can,” stated Marlar after talking about his near mishap with lapped car Mark Gant. (more…)

KNOWLES KNOWS CHEVY SUPER SERIES EAMS VICTORY LANE

PHENIX CITY, AL – Jake Knowles of Tyrone, GA had an exciting start, then an easy race for 40 laps, followed by an anxious last ten laps.  But he hung on to win the 50-lap Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series Race on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in the Cedartown Electric Rocket, and in doing so, took over the point lead.

Knowles survived a spin at the start of the race, but after the restart, he took command of the race on lap two, pulling out to over a full straightaway lead.  By lap 32, Knowles caught some lapped traffic and on lap 40 his big lead had evaporated, as National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN closed in to challenge Knowles for the point.

Knowles kept the bottom groove covered, leaving Johnson the outside.  With no place else to go, Johnson stepped to the outside, and even pulled alongside Knowles on a couple of occasions, but he slipped high in turn four on lap 49, and Knowles hung on for a .997 second margin of victory.

“My Dad was signaling me that my big lead was going away, and it was pretty frustrating being stuck behind a lapped car that ran me all over the race track,” Knowles said.  “I looked up at the scoreboard with ten laps to go, and saw the number 5 up there in second, and I knew I could be in trouble.” (more…)

Bloomer VIVIAN, LA (April 5, 2014) – Scott Bloomquist raced to his 47th career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win on Saturday Night at ARK-LA-TEX Speedway in thrilling fashion. Bloomquist took the lead on the 48th lap and led Ray Moore and Ryan Gustin to the checkered flag in a close finish. Bloomquist took over the second spot on lap 20 and trailed Moore until the two entered lapped traffic in the final ten laps when he began closing on Moore’s rear bumper.

“This is our first time here,” said Bloomquist, who became the 10thdifferent winner in 11 LOLMDS races this season. “I heard the racing would be two and three wide easily here. Well it is definitely true! I hope the crowd enjoyed that one. Our Sweet-Bloomquist car has been good all year. I have to thank Hawkeye Trucking, Durham Racing Engines, Lucas Oil Products, and Penske Shocks.”

“The track in the heat races was great and we could run anywhere, then the top started getting dominant during the feature. We set up our car for the end with our tire choice. When we caught him (Moore), there were a few cars in front of us, and I just picked the right line to get by him. He drove a heck of a race, we had just enough laps to catch him and pass him,” said Bloomquist afterwards. (more…)
