Florida United Promoters Series Announces 2013 Schedule & Added Divisions

The Florida United Promoters Series (FUPS) on Monday released the 2013 schedule for the Super Late Models to begin their third season next March at Desoto Super Speedway for the Ice Breaker 100. The series will return to Citrus Co. , Auburndale, New Smyrna, Orlando as well as Desoto. We are very excited to be returning to New Smyrna and Orlando in 2013, it shows the dedication of these track owners working together with FUPS, stated series director Rick Williams.

The series will have a 14 race schedule that will include many of the historic races in Florida over the years such as the Marion Edwards, Clyde Hart, Powell Family, and Billie Harvey Memorial’s, the Ice Breaker and Sea Fest at Desoto will also be part of the schedule. The season will conclude with a 150 lap finale at New Smyrna in November.

The other big news from FUPS is the addition of a Sportsman, Trucks, & Open Wheel Modified Divisions to the series. We are adding the Sportsman and OWM to give them a race schedule at FUPS Tracks for 2013, they will race together for most events on nights when the Super Late Models are idle. This has been a tremendous undertaking added Williams but, we have had so much intrust in the sportsman class and there are so many cars for this class out there, we felt it was a good time to start a little series for them and we’ll see how they support it, bottom line is how many cars show up and from the response we’ve seen for a couple of races in 2012 we feel it will be successful.  (more…)

Winner’s Share Upped to Minimum $3,000 for Deery Brothers Summer Series in 2013

VINTON, Iowa (Dec. 14)  – More green is at stake when the checkers fly at 2013 Deery Brothers Summer Series events.

All 17 events in next season’s IMCA Late Model tour will pay a minimum of $3,000 to win and $300 to start. Top paydays are the $5,000 to win Brent Slocum Memorial at 34 Raceway on April 6 and the $7,500 to win event on Sept. 14, during Farley Speedway’s Yankee Dirt Track Classic.

“It has been a number of years since the purse was increased from a minimum of $2,000 to win and $250 to start,” noted Tour Director Kevin Yoder. “Several tracks paid the higher purse at their events last season so that transition was already in place. The increase is justified to help the tour remain the elite series that it is.”

Non-qualifiers will get $100. Entry fee for the $3,000 to win shows will be $50 and pit passes will cost $30 at all series events. Drivers with perfect series attendance who qualify for the feature will also be eligible for $250 Sunoco Race Fuels drawings each night.

Five events are on the initial series schedule before the start of the regular Late Model point season: April 5 at Farley, April 6 at West Burlington, April 13 at West Liberty Raceway, April 19 at Davenport Speedway and April 20 at Dubuque Speedway. (more…)

Fast Track, Hoosier on Board to Support ARCA Touring Series Champions in “Road to Daytona”

(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.) – When open testing begins this morning for ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards teams at Daytona International Speedway, drivers in ARCA’s “Road to Daytona” program will have Fast Track High Performance Driving School and Hoosier Racing Tire, among others, to thank.

The North Carolina-based Fast Track High Performance Driving School, ARCA’s Official Driving School, will provide the cars and support for three 2012 touring series champions: the ARCA CRA Super Series’ Johnny VanDoorn, the ARCA Midwest Tour’s Jonathan Eilen, and the ARCA Gold Cup Series’ Dakota Carlson.

School owner Andy Hillenburg, a two-time ARCA Daytona winner and the 1995 Series champion, will assist each Road to Daytona driver in the test session. The 2012 Daytona test is the second at which Hillenburg’s school has assisted the touring series competitors. Last year, the Super Series’ Derrick Griffin and the Gold Cup Series’ Dennis Strickland drove Fast Track cars in the Daytona test.

Hoosier Racing Tire will provide a set of tires for each driver at the test. The Indiana-based company has been active in the ARCA Racing Series since the 1950s and has acted as the series’ official tire supplier since 1995.

Yesterday, officials from Roush Yates Engines and ARCA announced that Roush Yates will supply an ARCA spec restrictor plate engine lease for the weekend’s test. (more…)

TURNER NAMED SOUTHERN RACE WEEK DIRT LATE MODEL DRIVER OF THE YEAR

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA has been named the Southern Race Week Radio Dirt Late Model Driver of the Year.  The Southern Race Week Radio Show is syndicated to 28 radio stations throughout Georgia and Alabama.

To hear Matthew Turner’s interview on Southern Race Week, go to Facebook on the internet and like the Southern Race Week page, then click the About page for a list of radio stations and air times.

This award is the latest of accolades Turner has received since winning his first NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Championship at the series’ season finale on December 1 at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL.  Turner edged out two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN by ten points.

The week after winning the title, Turner and his #10 Hedman Husler championship-winning race car made the trip to the International Motorsports Industry Show (IMIS) in Indianapolis, IN, where the race car was displayed in the IMIS Hall of Champions.  Turner was also honored, with many other National Racing Champions at a special reception on December 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium.

“Our team has worked hard to win this championship, but we haven’t had much time to let it all sink in, as it has been so humbling and overwhelming to be honored like we have with the Southern Race Week Driver of the Year Award, and be in the Hall of Champions at the IMIS Show,” Turner said.  “When you think about all of the great drivers in Georgia and Alabama they could have picked for the Driver of the Year Award, and then to be recognized with guys like Cup Champion Brad Kesoloski, and World of Outlaws Champion Donnie Schatz at the IMIS Show, plus rubbing elbows with Tony Stewart, just shows how far we’ve come as a team, and how far the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series has come as a series over the past eight years.” (more…)

ARCA Changing Minimum Age Requirement at Pocono, Kentucky; New Starting Field Maximums Announced

(TOLEDO, Ohio) – Officials from the Automobile Racing Club of America have announced several important procedural changes for the 2013 ARCA Racing Series season.

Beginning in 2013, drivers aged 17 years old may be considered for eligibility to drive in race events at Pocono Raceway and Kentucky Speedway. Drivers seeking approval will be subject to meeting specific and strict guidelines, including but not limited to a thorough driving experience review, successful participation in a minimum of five approved ARCA Racing Series events, and an ARCA-sanctioned open test at the intended track.

The change will give 17-year-old drivers three more races to enter in 2013, bringing the potential season total for a 17-year-old to 16 races.

“In recognizing the growing youth movement in stock car racing, we are proud to have reached agreements with two partner tracks that will allow qualified, up-and-coming drivers to begin their speedway careers at a younger age,” said ARCA president and CEO Ron Drager. “We appreciate the commitment from those tracks to assist in our drivers’ development.”

ARCA also announced that in 2013, the starting field for the February 16 race at Daytona International Speedway will be 40 positions. The first 30 positions will be set by time trials, and the remaining 10 will be set by the provisional procedure listed on the entry blank. (more…)
