WAYCROSS, GA (April 4, 2013) – The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and LaSalle Speedway officials have announced that the “Spring Shootout”, scheduled for May 11th will be expanded this year. This year’s event will now be two single day shows. There will be a complete show on Friday, May 10th, paying $10,000 to win and a complete show on Saturday, May 11th, paying $10,000 to win.

The LOLMDS was originally scheduled to visit Hartford Motor Speedway on Friday, May 10th. Series officials were notified by Hartford Motor Speedway management that the health of track owner Jim Borden has worsened. The Borden family has decided to cancel the LOLMDS event to focus on their family during this trying time.

“We are extremely appreciative that Jim Borden stuck it out last year during his illness by having the passionate Hotovy family and his friends at Lane Automotive promote the very successful LOLMDS event. The series is again sadden by the recent news of Jim’s condition and will continue reverent prayers for Jim and the entire family during this trying time. We certainly understand their decision and ask everyone keep the family in our thoughts and prayers”, stated Director, Ritchie Lewis. (more…)

FARMER CITY, IL – April 3, 2013 – Brian Shirley has his sights set on big dirt Late Model prizes in 2013 – starting this weekend.

Contending for victory in the sport’s richest and most prestigious races is the stated goal for the defending DIRTcar UMP Summer Nationals and weekly series Late Model champion, who will get his first shot this season at a mega-money triumph when the World of Outlaws Late Model Series Illini 100 is contested for the fifth time on April 5-6 at Farmer City Raceway.

“We really want to focus on our program for the big shows this year,” said Shirley, a 32-year-old standout from Chatham, Ill., whose biggest career win to date was a $35,000 score in the 2006 Knoxville (Iowa) Late Model Nationals. “Last year we started up front in a lot of big races but couldn’t stay there. This year we have to make the right decisions to capitalize on those good starting spots and get solid finishes – and maybe even win one or two.

“Hopefully we can get things started right with the Illini. I’d love to be the guy to bring home a win for all the fans (at Farmer City) who are rooting for one of us Illinois boys to win it one of these years.” (more…)

Perris Auto Speedway Hosts World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series on Saturday, April 13

Seven of the last eight races at half mile have featured different winners

20130323-104802.jpgPERRIS, Calif. – April 3, 2013 – According to the trend, a first-time winner should stand atop the podium when the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series visits Perris Auto Speedway.

After Mark Kinser claimed the first five races at the half mile, seven of the last eight events – and the last five consecutive – have featured a different winner heading into the SoCal Showdown on Saturday, April 13.

One of those drivers is Kerry Madsen, who picked up a victory in 2007 and finished fifth during last season’s return to Perris Auto Speedway after a five-year hiatus.

“It’s an enjoyable track for me and I’m definitely looking forward to Perris,” he said. “It suits my style. It races like a 3/8 (mile). It doesn’t really race like a half mile. You’ve still got some speed on the straights and the corners are kinda tight and it builds a pretty nice ledge.”

Joey Saldana outlasted Californian and 2004 winner Jason Meyers in last year’s event.

“Last year I was fortunate enough to get a win at Perris,” Saldana said. “I love coming out here to the West Coast, definitely at the beginning of the year and definitely in September. It’s fun just coming out here; it’s a great atmosphere. All the fans really support sprint car racing.” (more…)

Anderson Speedway’s Historical Redbud 300 to See Purse Increased by over 40 Percent for 2013

Minimum $10,000 Winner’s Check Part of Increased Purse for Each Position in ARCA/CRA Super Series Event

ARCA-CRA-Super-Series-Logo

Anderson, IN (April 2, 2013) – Anderson Speedway officials announced today that the purse for the Stoops Freightliner Redbud 300 for the ARCA/CRA Super Series will increase by over 40% in 2013. Part of that increase will be seen in the minimum $10,000 winner’s check for the Saturday July 20th event.

Besides the increased winner’s share, every finishing position will see increased prize money.  Those finishing in the top 5 will especially notice the increases.

According to Anderson Speedway President Rick Dawson, it has been his goal to raise the purse for some time.  “A few years back we focused on the re-birth of the Redbud 300, also known as the Anderson 400 for some years.  We couldn’t really pay the purse we wanted while we were rebuilding it, and I asked the racers to be patient with me, and they were.  We’ve had some great shows and growing crowds in recent years, and with the addition of Stoops Freightliner as the title sponsor, we are now able to say ‘Thank You’ to the racers for their patience, and make a purse more commensurate with the national significance of the show.” (more…)

World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series Back to Kings Speedway

The premier sprint car series tackles the 3/8-mile track on Friday, April 12

20130324-180813.jpgHANFORD, Calif. – April 2, 2013 – Joey Saldana is searching for his first World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series feature victory as the driver for Motter Motorsports.

A 2000 winner at Kings Speedway, where the series hasn’t completed an event since 2003, Saldana has the 3/8-mile track circled on his calendar. The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series competes at Kings Speedway on Friday, April 12.

“I’m definitely looking forward to Hanford,” Saldana said. “We don’t get to race there much. I love racing there and we’ve been fortunate enough to win a race. Hopefully we can go back there and get right where we left off and that was with a win, so hopefully this 71m car can get a victory out here on the West Coast.”

Dating back to 2000, the past six races at Kings Speedway have been won by a different driver. Before that streak, 20-time champion Steve Kinser claimed a series-leading seven wins with Sammy Swindell, Stevie Smith and Danny Lasoski each winning three of the 28 World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series events between 1985-2003.

“It’s always been a fun place to go race,” Kerry Madsen said. “It’s got a nice little progressive banking to it so it can be quite quick and I’m pretty excited to go back there.” (more…)

Blaney Starts All Star Season on a Hot Note

allstar_logo3ATTICA, Ohio (3-31-13) By Brian Liskai – Saturday was a good day to be a
Blaney.  Early on Saturday, Dave “The Buckeye Bullet” Blaney – a regular with the
NASCAR Sprint Cup series – scored the win at Port Royal Speedway in
Pennsylvania. Not to be outdone, his brother, Dale “The Low Rider” Blaney
held off a late race challenge from Sheldon Haudenschild to score his 94th
career University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions
victory to open the track’s 25th anniversary season on HD
Supply/Construction Equipment and Supply Spring Nationals.

“I heard Dale got the win at the Port….he needs to race with us more to get
his confidence up….but I don’t know if that will be a good thing. He could
be a pain to all of us if that happens,” joked Dale Blaney beside his
Ti22/GF1 backed machine in victory lane

“Cap (Henry) was strong like he has been here the last few times we’ve run
at Attica. But George (Fisher) and Troy (Psurny) gave me a good car…I love
racing here…the track is always great,” added Blaney. (more…)

Davenport lays claim to Smoky Mountain Speedway while taking second-straight SAS win

20130325-221753.jpg

MARYVILLE, TN (March 23, 2013)—Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA has become the only repeat winner in four races during the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series-sanctioned 103.5 WIMZ Rockin’ with the Stars event on Saturday Night March 23rd at Smoky Mountain Speedway.

This was Davenport’s second-straight SAS win as he picked up the $5,000 payday while driving the AES Racing, Mega Plumbing, EnCompass Solutions sponsored Clement’s Racing Engines powered Barry Wright Race Car. Davenport is now tied with Billy Ogle Jr., Randle Chupp and Jack Pennington on the all-time winner’s list with eight career victories.

Davenport, who lowered the current track record, started alongside Ray Cook for the start of the 40 lapper with Cook gaining the momentum on the start taking to the high side and the lead for the first eight circuits. Davenport would stay right with Cook then grab the lead coming to the ninth lap on the back chute underneath where Cook had gotten trapped behind a lapped car. As the laps were winding down in the main, Cook had begun to reel in Davenport and would have a great run going into turn three allowing him to get up behind him but the final yellow with just two laps to go wouldn’t be enough as Davenport pulled away on the single-file restart to claim the win.

Hickory, NC (03/23/13) –After a calm season opener, the UARA-STARS drove an aggressive race at Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday, March 23rd. The event included six cautions, numerous fiery tempers, and plenty of torn sheet metal.

Starting from the Sunoco Pole, Ronnie Bassett Jr. jumped out to the lead early on. He allowed many drivers, including second place finisher Garrett Campbell, to pass him as he saved his equipment. The two also raced side-by-side early in the race and met back up at the front for a lead battle during the final ten laps.

Bassett Jr. earned himself the Pigwire Electricfying Move of the Race since he gained two positions by racing three-wide with David Garbo Jr. and Lee Tissott coming out of turn three. Campbell won FLUIDYNE Cool Under Pressure Award by racing hard, but clean. Campbell led early in the race, fell back to preserve his tires, and then back to the front to earn his second place finish.
