Day Wins Earlybird 100 Sayre Southern Superstar Event

20130325-221753.jpgJP Stephens, SAYRE, AL–After two rainouts, Mother Nature finally decided to cooperate Saturday as the Southern Superstars enjoyed a perfect day of weather at Sayre. Twelve drivers showed up to start the 2013 season and to see who can knock Mark Day off his championship throne. The 2012 season was the most competitive in series history, with five drivers having a chance to win the points championship during the last race. The 2013 season looks to be even more competitive as the series will also hold races at Huntsville Speedway and Highland Rim Speedway which is located north of Nashville. Brad Lemley, who won three races and took home seven poles, said he will run the whole season as he looks to win the series title. Also new to the series in 2013 is B J Holley from Jackson, Georgia, and J R Bolden of Calera, Alabama.
Before the race, several drivers were recognized for their efforts in 2012. Hunter Spivey was awarded the B J Parker Sportsmanship Trophy which is named after the legendary Southern Superstars founder and long-time race promoter B J Parker. Donald Bradsher “The Hitman” Captures First Career FASTRAK Touring Victory at Friendship Motor Speedway

216Ekin, North Carolina – The FASTRAK City Chevrolet Touring Division made their 1st visit back in 3 years Saturday night to the 4/10th mile Friendship Motor Speedway. Over 30+ “warlords” made the trip to the facility bringing the “sell-out” crowd to their feet for Round #6 of the year and Points Race #3 in the FASTRAK City Chevrolet Touring Division. What a great reunion it was as for the 2nd consecutive weekend in a row it was #93 Burlington, North Carolina’s #93 Rocket of Donald Bradsher would prevail on top as a FASTRAK first time winner.
It started off with daytime conditions in VP Race for the Pole Qualifying. Donald Bradsher set fast time with a speed of 16.212 seconds. The top 8 drivers we’re locked in from Time Trials for the 40 Lap feature paying $2,000 to win. Still in daylight conditions due to the idea from Promoter Les Wooten and Jerry Farley trying to not prolong the night for fans. The 2 Heat races we’re interesting. In B-Main #1 a lot of drivers testified it was like an extra practice session for the field as the race went “clean and green” in RockAuto Heat #1 won by #8 Bellwood, North Carolina’s Ron Parker. In Chevy Performance Heat #2 the story was totally different. Drivers we’re “fighting and clawing” their way around the clay oval going through anybody in their path. The yellow flag waved on many occasions but after the 3rd try at a one lap shootout, #11 David Smith the two-time and Defending FASTRAK City Chevrolet Touring Division Champion went on to win B-Main race #2. World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars Invading El Paso Speedway Park

At end of highly successful West Coast swing, Outlaws have one last track to invade before heading East20130415-172647.jpgEL PASO, Texas — April 15, 2013 — The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series has been racing through the Western states since early March, and it has one piece of unfinished business on Tuesday night in Texas before it returns to the Midwest.

Since March 6 the hardest working drivers in sprint car racing have taken on all comers at nine tracks in Nevada, Arizona, and California comprising 11 races. Those events have showcased eight different winners. In total, 22 drivers have scored at least one top-five, and that makes this an incredibly competitive swing for the touring series. As a brand new venue for the Outlaws, the 3/8ths-mile, slightly-banked El Paso Speedway Park should provide the same level of competition, which means fans will have no idea of who is likely to win Tuesday night.

Tim Kaeding and Daryn Pittman will certainly be in the mix, however, as they carry over a furious battle from Perris Auto Speedway. Pittman snatched the lead from Kaeding with 12 laps remaining in the SoCal Showdown in a pass that was a little too close for Kaeding’s comfort. (more…)

Brodie Kostecki Becomes First Australian UARA Winner at The Rock

Winner Brodie Kostecki

Rockingham, NC (04/15/13) –Fifteen year-old Brodie Kostecki won his first UARA event Saturday April 13th at Rockingham Speedway. The Australian driver started on the outside pole and grabbed the lead on lap 62. Kostecki is the fifth Australian to compete in the UARA-STARS, but first to win. He was also the first non-American winner at the Rockingham Speedway.

Sunoco Pole winner Clay Rogers had a strong run. For holding on to his first place position for the first 38 laps, Rogers was awarded Tilton’s Most Laps Led. After giving up the lead to Ty Dillon, Rogers settled for a fifth place finish. Dillon led the field for about 23 laps but couldn’t hold off UARA regulars, Kostecki, Ben Rhodes, and Ronnie Bassett, Jr. Dillon came home with a fourth place finish.

Rhodes had his best UARA finish with second place. Recovering from a vibration in practice caused by a damaged rear shock mount, Rhodes qualified 12th. He practiced patience and saved his equipment for the finish, which awarded him Holley Performer of the Race for gaining the most positions during the race.

During the first of two restarts, Devin Jones made a clean and smooth pass by Circle Wheel/ Extreme Trophies Rookie of the Race Tyler Edwards. Edwards missed a shift and Jones squeezed in the middle between him and Brandon Jones for position. This move nominated Devin Jones for Pigwire’s Electrifying Move of the Race. (more…)
