SAMSULA, FL – For nearly three quarters of Saturday night’s TBARA Sprint Car Series presented by Safety-Kleen’s 30-lap feature event at New Smyrna Speedway, Dude Teate looked as if he was well on his way to his first win of the season.

Unfortunately for Teate, a mechanical failure less than a lap from the finish of the race brought his car to a slow halt and allowed Ben Fritz to sneak by and grab his first win of the season.

Rod End Supply Heat Race 2 winner Johnny Gilbertson started on the pole and led the first seven laps of the race with Teate right on his tail. Teate pulled to Gilbertson’s outside at the end of lap eight and quickly pulled away from the rest of the field until a caution for debris bunched the field back together with 11 laps to go in the race. Ray Cook Wins 9th Annual Chevrolet Performance World Championship Race

cookVLbrp112313 (640x427)OCALA, FL – Driving a car he named “Johnny Cash,” Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC started 19th and won the 9th Annual Chevrolet Performance World Championship Race for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series in front of a packed house on Saturday night at Bubba Raceway Park.

Cook had the right set up and the driving experience on a hard slick track, as he took the lead on 43 and never looked back to claim the $10,000 top prize in the Horsepower By Hedrick Special.

“Howard Stalls asked me to drive for him in this race at the beginning of the season, and they’ve been building it since then, like that old Johnny Cash song “One Piece At A Time” and tonight it made some cash too,” Cook said. “We had trouble last night in qualifying, and had to come through the B-Main to make the race, but we had the right set up with tires and shocks to get us to the front.”

Once the car was finished, the Stalls crew installed a brand new Chevrolet Performance 604 Engine right out of the crate they bought at NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA for $5,195, so they paid for the engine in its first night on the race track. (more…)

Keith Nosbisch Wins Sixth Feature In Just Seven Starts Here At East Bay Raceway Park

K-Nosbisch-11-16-13-WinnerTampa, FL – It looked as though Mother Nature would spoil tonight’s races here at East Bay Raceway Park, but the rain held off as Late Models, Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks, V8 Warriors, Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers and the Ladies’ Powder Puff races went off without a hitch.

First feature of the night were the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks. Winning their heats were Buck Woodhouse and William Burnside. L.J. Grimm Pulls Away to Win 5th Annual Eddie Brann Memorial

desoto2

SCOTT LOCKWOOD, BRADENTON — On a night that saw numerous lead changes, passing throughout the 32-car field and several spins involving race leaders, L.J. Grimm took the lead on a final restart with eight laps left to take the fifth annual Eddie Brann Memorial 75-lap Open Wheel Modified feature event Saturday night at Desoto Speedway.

A 12-car inversion allowed Wayne Morris to start from the pole and lead the first 19 laps of the event. Several cautions, including one for a crash on the opening lap that knocked out John Sappraicone Jr. and Doug Miller, allowed Wayne Jefferson and Travis Roland — the night’s fastest and second-fastest qualifiers who started 12th and 11th respectively — to use restarts to move up through the field and on to Morris’ tail. Jefferson eventually got by Morris for the lead on a restart on lap 20.

Roland and Grimm also got by Morris on the restart. Also among the leaders was two-time defending race winner Josh Todd, who started deep in the field and was up to fifth as the race got to the one-third mark. Several cautions for spins and debris bunched up the field for another restart on lap 31 that saw Roland take the lead from Jefferson.

Roland’s time up front was short-lived as Grimm took his first lead of the night on a lap 34-restart. After another caution one lap later, Grimm and Roland, who were running side-by-side on another restart, both spun simultaneously coming out of turn two and were forced to the rear of the field as a result.

“I didn’t think it was over for us at that point, but I thought I could still come back and get a top-10 finish,” Grimm said.

Todd found himself in the lead after the spin and would pace the field for the next 14 laps. As the field completed lap 49, Jefferson slowed with an apparent tire issue and came to a stop on the backstretch, bringing his night to a premature end. (more…)

Wilson takes win in crash-filled SLM feature at Desoto Speedway

IMG_7374Scott Lockwood, Bradenton, FL -Sarasota’s David Wilson recovered from two different spins and went on to take his second consecutive Turner Tree and Landscaping Super Late Model win in Saturday night’s 75-lap main event Saturday night at the re-named Desoto Speedway.  Wilson started eighth in the 19-car feature and found himself right in the middle of a seven-car crash that was triggered when early leader Daryl Shelnut got loose going into turn three and forced several cars to check up in a chain Reaction melee that saw the car of polesitter James Glover end up on top of Chris Fontaine’s car. Bradenton’s Jessie Dutilly also received front end damage in the crash, while Glover’s and Brian Richardson’s night came to an end. Wilson and Brad Bowman both spun but were able to continue without damage.  Dutilly and Fontaine used the long red flag to their advantage and were able to rejoin the field after repairs without losing any laps. On the restart, Billy Bigley Jr. got by Shelnut for the lead. A couple of laps later he was joined at the front by Wilson, who restarted fourth. Wilson took the lead with an outside pass at the end of lap 14 and was poised to set sail from the rest of the field before a caution six laps later when Troy McNabb spun right in front of Wilson and the rest of the leaders. Several more cautions allowed Dutilly and Fontaine to keep pace with the leaders. Friesen goes “out with a bang,” ending 2014 Super DIRTcar Series with World of Outlaws World Finals win

Hearn Crowned Super DIRTcar Series Champion After Four Wins and Consistently Strong Season

110913_FreisenLenhartCONCORD, N.C. – Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 – Ontario’s Stewart Friesen, of Niagara-on-the-Lake, wrapped up his racing season in style, charging to victory in Saturday’s Super DIRTcar Series 40-lap feature at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

“It’s always good to go out with a bang,” said Friesen, who made a smooth late-race move in lap 37 to take the lead from series point leader Brett Hearn. “We passed the best in the business.”

Hearn, of Sussex, N.J., had already collected four Super DIRTcar Series wins and was aiming for number fiveSaturday, drawing the third starting position after winning Thursday’s heat race. Pole-sitter Ryan Godown had the initial lead, but Hearn charged ahead at the green flag and was a nose ahead of the No. 747 at the lap 1 start-finish line before the race’s first yellow flag waved.

Tim Currier, of Auburn, N.Y., collided with Billy Dunn, of Watertown, N.Y., to bring out that first caution. Dunn’s Number One Speed Shop No. 49 was towed off the track due to damage. (more…)
