Brady Smith Brilliant in Spring Shootout at LaSalle

Lucas LogoLa Salle, IL (May 11, 2013) – Brady Smith edged out fellow Wisconsin driver, Jimmy Mars by just a few inches at LaSalle Speedway on Saturday Night in winning the Jeff’s Enginemasters Spring Shootout. It was Smith’s first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win since 2008. Trailing Smith and Mars to the finish line in the $10,000 to win race was John Blankenship, Chris Simpson, and Don O’Neal.

“I have to thank Jimmy (Mars) for racing me clean that was quite a race, we are happy to be here in Lucas Oil victory lane. We haven’t been racing much this year, I had knee surgery back in March, and it took a while to recover from that,” said Smith. With the win Smith became the seventh different winner in eleven LOLMDS events in 2013.

Mars was seeking his first LOLMDS victory since the ’09 North/South 100 at Florence (KY) Speedway, but fell just short of the win. “Congratulations to Brady, I hope the fans enjoyed that race, to run 50-laps here without a yellow says something about the track and the drivers in this race. We got boxed in there behind another car and Brady was able to get around me. I thought that on the final lap, I was going to get him. I saw him slide up the track and he left and opening, but we came up just short.” (more…)

SERGI SURGES TO SLM VICTORY – FUNK FINALLY STAYS TOGETHER FOR SUPER STOCK WIN AT ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD

20130501-193218.jpgAs luck would have it, a light rain shower hit Orlando SpeedWorld just before the 8 pm start time but, after a delay of about an hour, the NASCAR Whelan All-American Series show went on as planned. The rain hit at just the wrong time as there was no sunshine or wind to help dry the track so it was up to track crews and the drivers to get the job done. A few adjustments were made to the program including scrapping the heat races to insure the show would end at a decent hour.

The 25-lap Super Late Model feature was dominated by Anthony Sergi of Geneva in the MJS Concrete Special as he led the event flag to flag. The race ran green to checker without a caution and Rich Clouser, the winner here two weeks ago, ran a strong second but could never muster the horses to catch Sergi.  Brannen Hester took third position trailed by Bob Glover and John Kennedy.

The Super Stocks again put on their usual competitive race and it was Donny Funk finally getting the mechanical monkey off his back as he led most of the way after starting from the pole. Funk set the early pace but had Jeff Cuddy right on his bumper. On lap seven, the engine blew in Ron McCreary’s “Pepto Bismol” Buick and he coated the turn one and two area with oil. Jeff Cuddy spun in the oil while Brandon Christian also hit it and slapped the turn two wall. Everyone was able to continue with the exception of McCreary. (more…)

Hometown Racing Association Takes Control Of Holiday-Weekend Racing & Concert After Cancelation Of ‘Bullring Bonanza’ Raffle

20130421-093450.jpgMIDDLEBOURNE, WV – May 10, 2013 – Thanks to John Watson and the Hometown Racing Association, the huge World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Jackpot 100’ doubleheader on May 25-26at Tyler County Speedway is steaming full speed ahead.

Any uncertainty about the status of the national tour’s Memorial Day weekend visit to the quarter-mile oval in the hills of West Virginia following last week’s cancelation of the ‘Bullring Bonanza’ mega-raffle by the Tyler County Fireman’s Association due to lack of ticket sales was erased by a quick response from Watson and Co.

“The Jackpot 100 is our big Memorial Day weekend event,” said Watson, who heads the Hometown Racing Association group that was formed to operate Tyler County Speedway this season. “We want to have this weekend feature World of Outlaws racing for a long time to come, so canceling this whole race because the Fireman’s Association’s plans for the ‘Bonanza’ raffle did not work out would not have been good for the future. DeSoto goes Full Throttle

DeSoto Speedway has a long history. The east Manatee county speedway has been the home to some of the fiercest racing in Florida from Dick Anderson’s win in the first Icebreaker in 1980, James Knight’s valiant run for the ’99 Pure Stock championship and  Jeff Choquette’s first asphalt win just to name a few, it is rich with it. Rain, Rain, Stay Away

20130506-202550.jpgJim Rouse, Ocala, FL- After the Mike Peters Open was postponed for the “R-word,” we hope to get back to action at Bubba Raceway Park. The NeSmith Crate Late Models are on tap as well as the Scorpion Racing Products UMP DirtCar Modifieds, Bubba Army Hobby Stocks, and the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators. Those 4 divisions will bring the heat but may be overshadowed by the Bigwheel Race for the fans.

Bryan Bernhardt is incredible. The driver out of Versailles, IN, has all 3 cars he has driven in the top 5 in points and that includes the Bubba Raceway Park Crate Late Models points lead. As he tries to keep his Bubba Army Performance Engines #B69 up front it’ll be Dover, Florida’s Jeff Mathews chasing him in the Gator Core Recycling #33. Mathews owns Bernhardt’s Modified ride so that just adds to the tight battle between the two. Tyler Clem is in an outstanding third place and sits just nineteen points behind the leader. (more…)
