Bowman dominates Modified feature at FTS

ftsaScott Lockwood, Bradenton, FL – Ralph Bowman delivered an early Mother’s Day gift with a wire-to-wire win in the 25-lap Open-Wheel Modified feature Saturday night before a packed house at Full Throttle Speedway.

IMG_2627St. Pete’s Bowman grabbed the lead at the start and was followed closely by Cape Coral’s Steve Arnold. Six laps in, L.B. Skaggs got around Wayne Jefferson for third and started closing on Arnold for second. Four laps later, Jefferson and Eric Rudd got together in the middle of the back stretch, sending Jefferson into the wall and ending his night.

On the restart, Skaggs quickly got by Arnold, only to see his night end with a blown engine three laps later. As Bowman stretched his lead to nearly the length of one of Full Throttle’s straightaways, the transmission failed on Arnold’s car with and sent him into the turn three wall with just a handful of laps remaining. Bowman was never challenged on the restart, winning easily over Rudd and Bradenton’s John Shields.

We came back with the same setup we had here last year and it worked really well for us,” Bowman said. “It’s good to be back here at Full Throttle Speedway and it’s a great place to race.” (more…)

Schatz Continues Mastery of World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at Knoxville

Defending champion charges to third victory of 2013 by winning Mediacom Shootout

20130505-075843.jpgKNOXVILLE, Iowa – May 11, 2013 – If it wasn’t obvious before, Donny Schatz made it clear on Saturdaynight: The path to winning at Knoxville Raceway goes through him.

Schatz charged from seventh to victory in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series Mediacom Shootout at the famous half-mile, where he has won five of the past six Knoxville Nationals crowns in addition to winning six additional series races there since 2006.

In a field of 51 cars, it was Brian Brown, Craig Dollansky and Tim Kaeding who tried to prevent Schatz from returning to Knoxville’s victory lane, a place Schatz practically calls home. Brown earned his second pole of the season and jumped out to a quick lead before Dollansky was able to slide into the top spot on lap 9. Meanwhile, Schatz reeled in Kaeding, then Brown and set his sights on Dollansky. (more…)

McCreadie’s Late-Race Tangle With Lapped Car Sends Clanton To World of Outlaws Late Model Series Victory At I-30 Speedway

Despite Deflating Left-Rear Tire, Georgia Driver Holds Off Lanigan Over Final Five Laps For Third Win Of ‘13

20130421-093450.jpgLITTLE ROCK, AR – May 11, 2013 – Shane Clanton knows his third World of Outlaws Late Model Series triumph of 2013 was a product of good fortune.

After capturing Saturday night’s 50-lap A-Main at I-30 Speedway, the 37-year-old driver from Zebulon, Ga., could only shake his head at the unlikely turn of events that made him a winner in the national tour’s first-ever event in the state of Arkansas.

“I got lucky,” admitted Clanton, who was victorious for the second time in the last three WoO LMS events. “It was given to me because (Tim) McCreadie got into the lapped car. He had a better race car.”

Indeed, Clanton appeared resigned to finishing second after being passed for the lead by Watertown, N.Y.’s McCreadie on lap 43. But two circuits later McCreadie spun between turns three and four when he tangled with Robbie Stuart while attempting to lap the DeRidder, La., driver, sending McCreadie to the rear of the field for the ensuing restart and handing the top spot back to Clanton.

Then Clanton – despite running with a deflating left-rear tire on his Kennedy Motorsports Capital Race Car – held off a furious challenge from Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., over the final five laps to defeat the defending WoO LMS champion by a mere 0.259 of a second. (more…)

Tony Agin Wins Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprint 25 Lap Feature Event At East Bay Raceway Park

Agin-Winner-5-11-13May 11th, 2013 – Tampa, FL – Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprints made their first appearance of the 2013 Season with 19 cars ready to battle for their feature event. Also racing tonight were the Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds, Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers.

First feature of the night went to the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks. Winning their heat races were Justan Rodgers and Buck Woodhouse and also would make up the front row for the feature event. Buck Woodhouse would lead the first three laps until caution would come out for debris on the front stretch. Woodhouse was leading with his brother Roy in second and Dennis Williams in third. When the race resumed Woodhouse would hold onto the top until several scars spun on the back stretch bringing out the caution once again. Two more cautions came out but it was Buck Woodhouse holding onto the lead with Dennis Williams trying to get around him. The final caution came out with just one lap to go when William Burnside spun in turn two. It was the green and the white flag waving together as Woodhouse went around the 1/3 mile track and picked up the win with Dennis Williams, Jarod Gay, Roy Woodhouse and Thomas Burnside rounding out the top five.
