Tonight East Bay was victorious as cars and fans were able to attend The Clay By The Bay to hear the sounds of motors roaring down the front stretch and cars going side-ways through the turns on the 1/3 mile track. Five classes were on hand tonight as the Gagels, Open Wheel Modifieds, Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks, Outlaw Fours, V8 Warriors and the Florida Old Time Modifieds were on hand to put on a show for the hungry fans.

First feature of the night went to the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks with Dennis Wilson, Jr and Thomas Burnside winning their heats. For the feature it was David Barwick, II and Tommy Hill making up the front row. Tommy Hill led the first lap until the caution came out as Billy Barstow spun in turn four. Hill would lead the next two laps until Jeff Rodgers and Mike Wilson tangled on the back stretch bringing out the second and final caution of the race. Tommy Hill would go on to cross the finish line first but was later dq’d in tech for the wrong tires. Hill from Clewiston made his return after five years and had borrowed tires from a fellow competitor. Morehouse Slides to His First DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals Win at Attica Raceway Park

MoorehouseATTICA, Ohio — July 19, 2013 — Kevin Morehouse slid his way around race leader Dona Marcoullier with just a handful of laps remaining en route to capturing the checkered flag at Attica Raceway Park in the second to last event of the six week-long Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals.

Morehouse, of Newark, Ohio, started in fifth, two rows behind Jeff Babcock and Collin Thirlby, who used the outside line to edge ahead.

Thirlby extended his lead before a spin ended his chances of claiming the victory. Thirlby’s spin allowed Dona Marcoullier to move in front with Morehouse challenging him from second.

Marcoullier ran the preferred high line all night as Morehouse raced the low groove. The two ran side-by-side for the next handful of laps with Morehouse finally completing the pass for the lead with only a few laps remaining. Morehouse moved to the top line and extended his lead en route to claiming the $1,000 checkered flag. (more…)

Doug Drown Outduels DIRTcar Summer Nationals “Hell Tour” Stars at Attica Raceway Park

DrownATTICA, Ohio — July 19, 2013 — Doug Drown made his first start of the 2013 DIRTcar Summer Nationals Hell Tour season count as he scored the win over title contenders Brandon Sheppard and Bobby Pierce at Attica Raceway Park.

Drown, of Wooster, Ohio, started from the pole position, leading flag-to-flag to claim the victory, but he had to hold off points leader Brandon Sheppard, who started the race from the outside of row one, and Bobby Pierce, who started fifth.

Lapped traffic came into play as the leaders reached the slower end of the field towards the later stages of the race. As Drown approached lap traffic, Sheppard and Pierce closed to the back bumper of the leader. Drown held off the challenges of the Hell Tour championship contenders, navigating the slower traffic and capturing the $5,000 checkered flag.

“I knew when I saw them not to get too excited and start spinning the tires,” said Drown, making his first Hell Tour appearance since 2011. “They’ve been pretty hot here the past month with the Hell Tour. I knew they were just as hungry, especially with their points battle going on, that they were gonna do anything they could to get the extra points and possibly the win.” (more…)

Kyle STrickler Makes It Look Easy at Harris Clash!

Bob Wilson, KNOXVILLE RACEWAY, Knoxville, IA, – Kyle Strickler was the class of the field at the 22nd Annual Harris Clash for IMCA Modifieds on Thursday night at the Knoxville Raceway. Strickler, from Mooresville, North Carolina, was able to defend his championship title of one year ago at this central Iowa racing facility.
“This car was perfect”, Strickler proclaimed at the trophy stand in post-race ceremonies. And, it was too as the young driver led every lap in the 25-lap feature and prior to the only yellow of the race on lap 19 he had the field covered.
From the get-go Strickler was on fire as he cruised to a full straight away lead on this big half-mile oval before even ten laps were in the books. He did not encounter lap traffic until the 12th circuit and that posed no problem for him.
Behind him for most of the race was Jesse Sobbing (Glenwood) while Todd Shute (Des Moines) held down the third spot behind him. Richie Gustin (Marshalltown), who started 17th moved quickly through the field and became a player by the half-way mark. (more…)

20130613-163158.jpgPEEBLES, Ohio — July 17, 2013 — Pole-sitter Doug Adkins stormed out to an early lead and never looked back as he led flag-to-flag to claim his first win on the 2013 DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals tour at Brushcreek Motorsports Park.

Adkins was challenged though, as Jess Hartman charged from fourth to second. Adkins moved from the bottom to the middle to try and hold off Hartman, who was glued to the top of the racetrack. Jason Feger Wins First Career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Event at Hamilton County

Lucas LogoWEBSTER CITY, IA (July 17, 2013) – In his inaugural appearance at the historic Hamilton County Speedway, Jason Feger wins his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event. In front of a capacity crowd, Feger cruised to the victory after passing Steve Francis on lap 15 and pulled away in the final laps to become this season’s 14th different winner on the LOLMDS tour. Francis finished second, followed by Earl Pearson Jr., Don O’Neal, and Brian Birkhofer.

“It feels great to finally get a Lucas Oil Series win. We have won in a lot of different series, but to get this one is really special. To beat such a talented field of drivers like Francis, [Don] O’Neal, [Billy] Moyer, and [Scott] Bloomquist, we couldn’t ask for a better night as a team.  After having a little bad luck recently, we were due for a good finish. We have been getting on each other’s nerves recently, but the crew has worked their tails off, and this win should take the pressure off of us,” stated Feger in Lucas Oil Victory Lane.

“When I saw them watering the topside of the track before the feature, I was really salivating at the chance to run up there!  The car was fast all night, starting from the time we unloaded it. I had confidence that we could get to the front early and stay there. Steve [Francis] and I diced through traffic, I tried a couple of different lines, and was finally able to get by him on the outside,” continued a jubilant Feger. He is driver of the Cheap Cars, Box Seat Productions, Rhyne Competition Engines, Bob Pierce Race Cars entry. (more…)

Steve Dorer Eager to Return to Anderson for Redbud 300

2011 Winner Looking for His Second Redbud 300 Win

Kevin Ramsell, Anderson, IN – The memory is still fresh in his head as if it happened yesterday and not two years ago. Steve Dorer surprised many when he won the Redbud 300 in 2011 and almost repeated in 2012.  To say he is eager for this weekend is an understatement.

Dorer, who now calls Lakeland, Florida his home and owns Racecar Engineering, won the 2011 event on by making a last lap pass on Chase Elliott.

“What was funny about that race is we didn’t have much of a pit crew. We were running 12th at the halfway break and my friend Doug Lane asked if I was worried,” Dorer recalled. “I said how many laps are left and he said 150, I said we have plenty of time.

“Our car worked well on the outside and we were third with are-start with five laps to go. I got to second with two laps to go.  On the white flag, I gave it my all going into three on the outside, and I knew I had Chase at the line. It surprised many. We didn’t practice the day before. We showed up on race day, practiced on old tires and weren’t near the top of the charts. No one counted on us to win.” (more…)
