Father and son race team brings home a pair of wins at Punta Gorda Speedway

James Dellea from Port Charlotte dominated the Cowboy CCadillacclass last year at the Punta Gorda Speedway. Towards the end of the season Dellea decided to swap rides with Stuart Vandevender who was running the Sportsman class with not as much luck. Dellea and Vandevender put their finishing touches on the new rides and off they went racing, Vandevender started right off where Dellea ended in the trucks and that was the winners circle week after week. Dellea had some adjusting to do to the new Street Stock and it paid off sat night as he came home the winner in a very competitive class that is heating up. Dellea put his
son James Dellea III in a 4 cylinder last year and after improving his talent behind the wheel every week, held off some strong front runners to make his first trip to the winners circle. (more…)

Whos and Hows

By- Jim Rouse, Bubba Raceway Park Media 3-10-12

Five exciting divisions put on a show not soon to be forgotten. RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Limited Late Models (former Sportsman), Hobby Stocks, Thunderstocks, and Mini Stocks took to the track and more than a few surprises were found along the way.

The Limited Late Models started the night off and on lap 1 Blaise Hetznecker spun while running 2nd which brought the caution out. Forrest Gough led David Ponton and Jerome Dipple but under caution Ponton would not take the inside of row 1 so 5th place Kevin Mills accepted the offer when Race Control let any one willing move up to row 1. Kevin Mills used a 2nd restart to pass Gough for the lead. Mills battled through cautions each time building about a 1.5 second lead after restarts. On lap 19 Ponton and Ricky Land spun setting up a 1 lap dash. Mills nearly left the door open but he shut it as soon as it opened in turn 3 and went on to win on his daughter’s 4th birthday. Eddie Gainey finished 2nd to take home the points lead, Jerome Dipple was 3rd, Jamie Dayhaw 4th, and Wayne ONeal completed the top 5. (more…)

3-5-12 – The RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Hobby Stocks, and Thunderstocks will be joined by the Limited Late Models and Mini Stocks for week 2 of the 2012 season.

Bo Allen worked hard over the winter as did Bryan Bernhardt and they run in the top 5 in points early. Mark Whitener flashed brilliance and could go all the way next time out.  (more…)

Herb Neumann Jr goes wire to wire in Open Wheel Modifies at Citrus County Speedway

Two weeks ago Herb Neumann Jr seemed to finally get the handle behind the wheel of the 01 Open Wheel Modified normally piloted by his son, Curtis. After Curtis moved out of state to pursue his career, father Herb decided to see what he could do behind the wheel of this proven winning machine. The first few races in the car saw Herb struggle to get the handle on the chassis, and adjust to the new type of car, after running Super Late Models for many seasons. Two weeks ago all the bugs seemed to be worked out, as driver and machine were in perfect harmony. Neumann was out front, and looked to have the fastest car on this night. But lady luck would have other plans, a flat tire under a lap 17 caution, would steal his first Open Wheel Modified victory. This week, Neumann would return, looking to avenge his bad luck. (more…)

Shelnut Wins Race Number Two of the Goodyear Challenge 12 Pack Series

After three weeks off of racing, it took a while to get the fans parked and settled into the Punta Gorda Speedway that was packed from one end to the other. After qualifying and heat races, the first feature took to the track, it was the Rookie Trucks for fifteen laps. Thirteen year old Chad Chastain from Alva sat on the pole and ran start to finish as the leader but had a hard charging Corey Bigley on his bumper till the end. Bigley usually runs the pro 4 class but got to run the 00 truck of Whitney Poole and really gave Chastain a battle to the end. It was Chastain that got to celebrate in the winners circle with Bigley coming in a hard fought second place and Kyle Case third. (more…)
