Dollansky Earns the Kasey Kahne Challenge Championship after another Top-Five Finish

McCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. – Aug. 14, 2012 – Evidently, momentum is a big deal in sprint car racing. Coming off his sixth Goodyear Knoxville Nationals title in the last seven years last weekend, Donny Schatz whooped most of the field on Tuesday night at Junction Motor Speedway during the fourth-and-final round of the NAPA Auto Parts Kasey Kahne Challenge Presented by Mid-Nebraska Land Developing, A&L Sales & Service and Friesen Chevrolet.
It was only the second World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at the 3/8-mile oval, where Craig Dollansky earned the inaugural Kasey Kahne Challenge title. He received a unique trophy by Jay Simes of Simes Graphic Designs as well as a $3,000 bonus.
“The money can go pretty quick in this business, but (it’s) definitely one of the more unique trophies I’ve ever won,” said Dollansky, the only driver to record a top five in three of the four events. “It’s a great accomplishment for our team. To come out on top and to have this beautiful trophy, it’s pretty cool.” (more…)
Frank Kimmel, Rookie/Defending Winner Alex Bowman Ready for ARCA Short Track Go
(TOLEDO, Ohio – August 14, 2012) – ARCA veteran Frank Kimmel knows how to win races. The second-generation racer has 75 career ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards victories, second on the all-time ARCA win list.
Team Messina Rookie Challenge contender Alex Bowman is certainly learning how to win races, and it didn’t take long. The Tucson, Ariz. driver won at Madison Int’l Speedway in his ARCA debut in August of 2011.
Both championship contending drivers will be returning for the Herr’s Live Life with Flavor 200 at Madison Int’l Sunday afternoon, August 26, ready to test their short track skills on the half-mile short track oval.
Kimmel finished sixth in last year’s race, and was not happy with the result. However, Kimmel has joined forces with ThorSport Racing for 2012, and has shown marked improvement in performance. In fact, the Clarksville, Indiana racer snapped a winless streak that stretched nearly four years when he dominated the ARCA race at Lucas Oil Raceway just last month. In addition, the nine-time ARCA champion is currently third in championship points, just 45 points from the lead. (more…)

Charlotte, NC 8/14/12– This weekend marks the third and final time this season the PASS South super late model series makes their way to “America’s Hometown Track”; South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Virginia. The first trip in March was marred by rain after a Friday afternoon practice session, followed by a June 9th event that saw young Landon Cling, driving for Brad Keselowski Racing, pick up his first career super late model win. This weekend’sSouthern Virginia 150 has all the potential to produce another first time series winner, but more importantly it could be one of the final times championship contenders race against one another with minimal outside influx as the season schedule hits the fall months of 2012.
The series last outing at Orange County Speedway really shook the championship points battle up a bit as current leader Kyle Grissom scored his third win of 2012, while Brandon Ward, who has been Grissom’s main challenger this season, failed to finish due to a mechanical issues. (more…)
CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series welcomes Kaleb Matthew Turner to its racing family. Kaleb arrived at 9:59 a.m. this morning and easily passed the post-birth technical inspection by crossing the scales at nine pounds, six ounces, and measuring 21 inches long.
Kaleb’s Daddy is the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division point leader Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA, but for this morning’s feature event, his Momma Brandi Turner did all of the work!
Matthew Turner has even more incentive to capture the $20,000 prize that goes to the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion because as big as Kaleb is, Matthew is going to have to buy a lot of groceries in the coming years. Wagering has already begun as to whether Kaleb is going to be big enough to change his Daddy’s tires in four months’ time at the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season finale, the 100-lap $10,000-to-win 8th Annual Chevrolet Performance Parts World Championship Race on November 29-December 1 at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL. Ocala, FL – This week-end is the Florida State Thunder Stock Championship and the 2-day event will be a breath-taker. The Friday night event will see the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks go all out as they fight for that title; in fact, they will time trial for the first time in history. Alongside them will be the RaceCar Engineering Late Models for $3000, the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, and the Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks.
Brian “Hothead” Mullins leads the chase in the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks and after that big win a couple of weeks ago he’d like to add that ring. “Flash” Jonathan Appleby and Jason Gamble are chasing but have some points to make up on the leader. If any 2 can do it, however, it’s these 2. Bubba Durbin sits 4th and has been quick all season- he could upset the event and take home the gold and few would be shocked. In 5th is Brandon Elwood as he has built a nice cushion over 6th place John Thorpe. (more…)

Just Another Day at the Office for Second Generation Dirt Track Racer
(TOLEDO, Ohio) – Kevin Swindell was probably first known to motorsports enthusiasts via his famous father – World of Outlaws Sprint Car Champion Sammy Swindell. However, the ‘son of Sammy’ has, no doubt, carved out his own name in racing, winning the last three consecutive Chili Bowl National Championships in the open-wheel midget ranks.
To add yet another feather to his motorsports cap, the second-generation driver earned his career-first major-league stock car victory in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards at Chicagoland Speedway in July.
But either way one slices it, his roots are bred on dirt tracks. That said, it should be no surprise that Kevin Swindell will soon steer for Springfield, Illinois where the 50th running of the Allen Crowe 100 is taking shape on the Illinois State Fairgrounds mile-dirt Sunday, August 19. Regardless of Swindell’s experience on dirt, this will be his first ever attempt in a 3400-lb. ARCA stock car on dirt. (more…)
