Jeff Mathews Wins Late Model Feature, David Pollen, Jr. Wins Championship

November 10, 2012 – Tampa, FL – Late Models, Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds, Outlaw Fours and V8 Warriors were on hand tonight as a Championship was in sight for one driver.

The first feature of the night went to the Outlaw Fours. Winning their heat races were Jesse Foster and Nick Hebrank as they also made up the front row for the 15 lap feature event.  When the green dropped it was Foster leading the field for the first seven laps until the first caution came out for Megan Meyer as she spun in turn one.  When the green waved again with just a few laps left it Stephen Hohlbaugh spinning in turn two after running in the top five. Then on the restart it was defending Champion Jesse Brown making his way to take over the lead and did on lap nine not looking back and picking up his first win of the season. Finishing in second was Foster followed by Raymond Folwell, Brittany Yates and Hohlbaugh rounding out the top five.

Next were the Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds. Before the night started, points leader David Pollen, Jr. had just a 44 point lead over two time defending Champion Austin Sanders and Thomas Pratt and Bruce Harvey just 49 points back. Picking up heat wins were Harvey and Sanders trying to get points to catch Pollen, Jr. So for the feature it was Kyle Bronson and Bobby Dixon on the front row. On the initial green flag, Dixon spun in turn two causing a complete restart. So on the restart, the young man who has won 25 features this year took the lead. (more…)

Wheel In The Sky

Jim Rouse, BRP Media, Ocala, FL – As the most intense season in recent history winds down, we see plenty of drivers fighting over 8 championship trophies. There are still a few races to be run, however, and the Twisted Tea Top Gun Sprint Cars joined the Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators in 5 of those battles.

Hobby Stocks would take to the clay first and Mike Stalnaker led lap 1 from pole. On a restart Don Woosley, Kyle Morse, Marty Smith, and Thomas Burnside caused a 4-car pile-up in turn 1 that forced a red flag with 18-to-go. Up front it was Stalnaker upsetting the worlds of Trevor Gamble and Tim Powers. Gamble took the lead on the restart but after another caution he lost it to Tim Powers! The order after Robert Sirmons’ lap 7 spin from 4th was Powers, Gamble, and Stalnaker. Joe Boyd blew up on lap 10 right as time expired while Mark Maresca, Chuck McHone, and Rebecca Paugh spun to avoid. (more…)

Back in the Winner Circle Again

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday, if you were not at the Punta Gorda Speedway Saturday night, you missed a full, on the edge of your seat, night of racing action. To some, it seemed as if it was full moon racing, cars returning home not like them came in and others, it was a repeat of their race before.

The features started off with the Dwarf cars that ran bumper to bumper and side by side with the 08 of Rob Kohler as the leader. The 14 of Bo Bass was right there and battled Darren Bass for second  till ten to go when Bo Bass got by Kohler for the lead. Two laps to go the drive shaft broke on the 08 and the finish was Bo Bass of Eustis, Darren Bass and Larry Hubbard jr for third.

Road Warriors came out next and put on a heck of a show that was filled with cautions till they settled in and Chris Loney of Naples was fighting to stay ahead of the pack. Jason Miller took over the lead and never looked back as a real battle was going on for those next spots. When all the smoke cleared and some hard fought door to door racing, it was Richard Nelson that finished second Rocket Rick Reed was third.

Street Stock race at times seemed to be a race of drive through them not around them but the real race was Ryan Pancoast out of N. Ft Myers that took the lead away from a hard fighting Richard Nelson. “Back in the winner circle again” , it was Ryan Pancoast, with the 88 of Jimmie Meiser second, Shane Leonard third and Richard Nelson that got shuffled back to fourth on the last restart. Don’t Count Him out Just Yet; Jay Fogleman wins PASS South North vs. South Shootout 150 at Caraway

Charlotte, NC 11/11/12– Veteran Jay Fogleman came in to this weekend’s PASS South North vs. South Shootout 150 at the Caraway Speedway as a man on a mission. That mission was pretty plain and simple; win the race and let the championship points fall where they may. Well consider it mission accomplished for the Durham, North Carolina driver as he picked up his second win of 2012, and more importantly gave his Bull City Racecars race team a shot at the series championship heading into the final race of the season at the Concord Speedway coming up on November 24th.

“We knew coming in to these last two races it was going to take everything going just right for us to have a shot at this championship, and it just so happened to go our way this weekend. I knew we had a good car here this weekend in practice, but I was kind of all over the place with Tate (son of Jay Fogleman) making his PASS debut I never have had time to even think about the championship or capitalizing on a good run,” said Foglman in victory lane. “Right now I’m just happy to be back in victory lane, and the fact I can always remind Tate years from now that the first time we raced against each other I beat him.” (more…)

Dorer Wins FUPS A-Able Septic 125 at Citrus County Speedway

The Florida Untied Promoters Series made it’s final trip of 2012 to the friendliest track in the south this past Saturday night. 23 of the states top late model pilots turned out for the A-Able Septic Service 125, the largest field of the year for the series. The nights events got cranked up with time trial qualifying for the series late models. Once the drivers all took the best of 2 qualifying laps, it was Daniel Webster (33) coming out on top with a lap of 13.60 seconds. Following Webster were Kevin Macy (19) in 2nd, and Jonathan Guy (42) in 3rd. After the top 8 qualifiers randomly drew for their staring positions, Guy would have lady luck on his side, drawing the pole position. David Green (12) would start alongside Guy, with point leader Steve Dorer staring 6th, and championship challenger Jesse Dutilly (30) starting 9th.

Guy would get the jump at the drop of the green flag and lead till the 1st caution at lap 4 for a spin by Eric Stokes (8). Guy would lead the field to green on the restart, but soon had pressure in the form of fast qualifier Webster for the lead. Webster would take the high side and move by to take the lead. Guy soon felt pressure from Joe Winchell for the 2nd position, as Winchell also moved around the outside of Guy to take away the runner up spot. Caution flew again at lap 19 for a spin involving the 4th running Green, and 5th running Daniel Keene Jr (5k). Keene would rejoin the end of the field, while Green headed to the pits with damage. Webster would lead on the restart, with Winchell just behind in 2nd, and Guy 3rd. Series point leader Dorer found himself in 5th, and Dutilly in 7th for the restart. After the restart, the race would go green for 65 laps, which shuffled the field considerably. (more…)
