DARVILACS EMERGES WITH HAT TRICK IN JOEY COULTER CHARITY 200 WEEKEND – RECORD AMOUNT RAISED

The Seventh Annual Joey Coulter Charity 200 Race Weekend proved to top all previous events in money raised but there was a bit of déjà vu as well as victory lane was occupied by a familiar face in Steve Darvalics.

The charity race was held to help three families in need including, for the second time, the Hopkins family. The very first race was held to help young Tommy Hopkins who is now in remission from a form of Leukemia. However, it is now his mother, Shelly, who is battling a cancerous brain tumor. Also receiving assistance from this years event are the family of six-year-old London Peoples who has a very aggressive form of brain cancer and the family of three-year-old Kanarius Wood who has stage four Neuroblastoma cancer.

Race organizer Rick Bristol could not have asked for better weather as his long-time labor of love ran for the first time at the quarter-mile Auburndale Speedway and received incredible support from track owners Rex and Collette Guy and their staff.

Several sponsors stepped up to the plate as well to insure the event would be a success including Aaron’s, Blackwater Integration and Florida Suncoast Unclaimed Freight Sales. The Sonny’s Real Pit Bar-B-Que on nearby Recker Highway hosted a Thursday evening charity meal night with a percentage going to the charity.

Local fifteen-year-old Truck racer Dylan Martin, with help from his friend “semi-retired” Truck racer Kim Scheffler, worked tirelessly to promote the event in the Lakeland-Auburndale-Winter Haven area and himself raised at total of $6,000. (more…)

AUDI PLANS SEBRING ENTRY; STELLAR ENTRY LIST GROWS

Audi has announced plans to enter the 61st running of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida (March 16th) with their R18 e-tron quattro.

Audi has won Sebring 10 times in the past 13 years. “It looks like this may be the last opportunity to compete with an LMP1 car at Sebring,” says Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich. “We’d really like to use this chance and say goodbye to the fans with a nice showing after our fantastic success story in recent years.”

This may not have to be a final farewell, though. In 2014, the GRAND-AM Series and the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón will merge to form a new North American Sports Car Championship that might be of interest to Audi.

“We are thrilled by the news of Audi’s confirmed plans to race at Sebring,” stated American Le Mans Series President & CEO Scott Atherton. “Over the past decade no manufacturer has had more success at Sebring than Audi and it will be fitting tribute to have an R18 e-tron quattro competing in what will be the last ALMS race at Sebring. I want to personally thank Wolfgang Durheimer (head of VW Group Motorsports), Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich (head of Audi Sport) and Scott Keogh (President Audi of America) – without their involvement this wouldn’t have happened. TENNESSEE NATIONAL RACEWAY SIGNS WITH THE NeSMITH CHEVROLET WRS

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Tennessee National Raceway in Hohenwald, TN has signed on with the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series beginning fulltime during the 2014 season, with an option to join in 2013 with sufficient interest from competitors. Tennessee National Raceway will give their Late Model competitors an option to run under NeSmith Chevrolet WRS rules in 2013.

“We are proud to be bringing the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Weekly Racing Series to Tennessee National Raceway in 2014,” Tennessee National Raceway Owner Bill Hibbits said. “We believe in what the series is doing to help race tracks and late model racing and want to be a part of it.”

Hibbits said Tennessee National Raceway wants to give their dirt late model competitors an opportunity to have the time to change over to the economical Chevrolet Performance 604 Crate Engines that power the cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series. However, for the 2013 season, the track will make concessions for those competitors wishing to run by the NeSmith rules. (more…)

NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS ANNOUNCES 2013 TOURING DIVISION SCHEDULE

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series has announced its 2013 Touring Division schedule with 21 confirmed dates over nine weekends at 13 different tracks in seven different states. The NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS will return to ten tracks from the 2012 season, and will visit three new tracks for the first time.

Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL will bookend the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division schedule by opening and closing the season with two blockbuster events.

The first stop of the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season will see five races in five nights for Speedweeks from January 29 through February 2. The 2013 season will conclude with the 100-lap $10,000-to-win 9^th Annual Chevrolet Performance Parts World Championship Race on November 28-30.

The five-race series will feature a separate point with cash and contingencies worth over $20,000 and paying back 30 spots. The first four Speedweek events at Bubba Raceway Park from January 29 through February 1 will be 40-lap races that pay $2,000-to-win, and the finale on the fifth night on February 2 will be 50 laps and pay $3,000-to-win. Florida United Promoters Series Announces 2013 Schedule & Added Divisions

The Florida United Promoters Series (FUPS) on Monday released the 2013 schedule for the Super Late Models to begin their third season next March at Desoto Super Speedway for the Ice Breaker 100. The series will return to Citrus Co. , Auburndale, New Smyrna, Orlando as well as Desoto. We are very excited to be returning to New Smyrna and Orlando in 2013, it shows the dedication of these track owners working together with FUPS, stated series director Rick Williams.

The series will have a 14 race schedule that will include many of the historic races in Florida over the years such as the Marion Edwards, Clyde Hart, Powell Family, and Billie Harvey Memorial’s, the Ice Breaker and Sea Fest at Desoto will also be part of the schedule. The season will conclude with a 150 lap finale at New Smyrna in November.

The other big news from FUPS is the addition of a Sportsman, Trucks, & Open Wheel Modified Divisions to the series. We are adding the Sportsman and OWM to give them a race schedule at FUPS Tracks for 2013, they will race together for most events on nights when the Super Late Models are idle. This has been a tremendous undertaking added Williams but, we have had so much intrust in the sportsman class and there are so many cars for this class out there, we felt it was a good time to start a little series for them and we’ll see how they support it, bottom line is how many cars show up and from the response we’ve seen for a couple of races in 2012 we feel it will be successful. Salem, IN (December 17, 2012) – Champion Racing Association officials are pleased to announce that Luke Yoder Construction, Hamner Racing Engines and RaceCar Engineering will be sponsoring special awards for the upcoming SpeedFest 2013 at Watermelon Capital Speedway on January 26^th and 27^th. Ice Bowl XXII just a few weeks away, Super Late Models $6,000 to win January 3-6th

EASTABOGA, AL (December 16, 2012)—Officials with the Talladega Short Track have announced further details regarding the Ice Bowl XXII on January 3-6, 2013 (Thursday through Sunday).

The track’s website located at www.TalladegaShortTrack.com has all details regarding, classes and purses, start times each day, admission prices and rules for each division competing. The Super Late Models will once again headline the racing weekend with a 50-lap $6,000 to win event and the Crate Late Models will compete for a $3,000 to win / $250 to start event. The Sportsman (Limited Late Models) will be gunning for $2,500 to win / $200 to start. Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Announces 2013 Season Schedule

Series Set to Return to Rockingham Paying $20,000 to Winner

Mooresville, NC 12/17/12– Officials from the Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series are proud to announce the 2013 season schedule on the heels of a very successful “open house” event at the Charles Mack Citizen Center in downtown Mooresville, North Carolina last Friday night. The 2013 season will kick off on Saturday April 6^th at the Dillon Motor Speedway in Dillon, South Carolina and feature fourteen total events with the first ten setting the stage for the annual four race championship series to crown a series champion.

From there the series schedule makes its first of two series stops at the Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, North Carolina on April 20^th followed by a trip back to South Carolina at the Anderson Motor Speedway on May 4^th. The state of Tennessee and Virginia welcomes the series respectively on May 18^th at Kingsport Speedway and Motor Mile Speedway on June 8^th. ARCA Concludes Successful Three Day Test at Daytona; 61 Drivers Test

(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – December 16, 2012) – Three days of open testing for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards at Daytona Int’l Speedway came to a conclusion Sunday afternoon with nary an on-track incident among 61 drivers who posted time and speed.

While several veteran teams and drivers utilized the open test in preparation for the 2013 season opener, several rookies circled the 2.5-mile superspeedway in search of seat-time with the intention to gain approval to compete in ARCA competition. Given the success of the test, ARCA’s newest rookie crop is off to a very good and safe start.

Venturini Motorsports, in all Toyotas, led the leader board in six separate sessions during which New Castle, Indiana rookie Caleb Armstrong posted the fastest speed overall at 184.192 mph. He was followed by rookie Justin Boston, veteran John Wes Townley and rookie Taylor Ferns.

“As a driver there is no doubt Daytona is the place to be,” Armstrong said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited to see my progress in making the transition from open wheel to stock cars. The team has been totally supportive and given me really good equipment.” (more…)

Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series Adds April 6th Date at Tazewell Speedway Paying $5,000 to Win

HUNTSVILLE, AL (December 16, 2012)—Officials with the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series and Tazewell Speedway have announced an addition to the 2013 schedule.

The SAS Late Models will visit the Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN for the first of three season visits on Saturday April 6^th paying $5,000 to win / $300 to start for the Fourth Annual Charles Trammell Memorial event. With the addition of the April date at Tazewell, this brings the series schedule to 21 events, the first time since 2008 the series will run a 20+ season schedule.

The 2013 Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series campaign begins on Sunday Afternoon March 3^rd at the Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC for the running of the annual ‘March Madness 60’ event paying $10,000 to win / $500 to start.
