Doubling Up

The UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds headlined the night with $1500 to win and Double Points on the line. Also, the Sportsman, Gladiators, and Florida Mini Sprints Association took to the clay in search of points and glory.

The Sportsman opened the night and on the opening lap “Big Puddin” Billy Costello found his 00 off course and around. As the caution came out Davey Kinsey, Sonny Thompson, and Forrest Gough made contact in turn 1 which ended Kinsey’s night. Sonny Thompson took the early lead but on lap 3 JO Nobles drove the 18 around Thompson’s 75 and soon after Austin Clark spun in turn 2. A lap later Ricky Land brought the caution out when his 66 stopped on the frontstretch. (more…)

Billy Bigley Jr brings it home first in an exciting 100 lap Super Late Model feature

It was a great night for racing, if you did not make it out to Punta Gorda Speedway, you missed one of the best Super Late Model races yet. Fans knew it was going to be a great night and started arriving early, the place was packed by the time racing got underway.

With Qualifying and heat races out of the way the Bandoleros came out first for their feature. Keith Sinkula driving the 19 out of Palm City led the entire race and never lifted off the gas, how does he do it, Johnny Holmes of Port Charlotte second and Noah Weaver from Sarasota third. (more…)

Buzzie Reutimann Back In Victory Lane

Sept. 24, 2011 – The night started off with the Street Stock division.  J.R. Welden and Donnie Reed picked up heat wins early in the night. Points leader Jarod Gay was supposed to start on the pole, but had transmission problems in his heat race. That put Curtis Book and Jim Baker on the front row. When the green flag dropped, Donnie Reed took over the lead on lap two and never looked back. On lap eleven, last weeks feature winner, Andy Lee had problems and slowed down with four laps to go bringing out a caution and brought Baker and Book right behind him. But, Reed was able to hold the challenges of the two giving him his third feature win of the season. Baker, Book, Mike Eaton and Welden rounded out the top five. (more…)

Jared Allison Races To NFS Mod Win

Six different divisions took to the clay at North Florida Speedway Saturday night and Jared Allison scored his first Open Wheel Modified win of 2011. Other feature event winners were the father son team of Ed and Nevin Gainey in Sportsman and Street Stock respectively. Shane Taylor scored his second straight Pure stock win and Daryl Larson took hid third win of 2011 in Box Stock. John Hopke took the win in TQ Lates. (more…)

Top Gun Race Recap September 24th, 2011

The Top Gun Sprints made their third visit of 2011 to Bubba Raceway Park on Saturday September 24, 2011. There were 17 cars at the track to give fans two heat races and a 25 lap feature race.

Danny Martin in the 24 car had the pole with Tim Grubaugh in the 42 on the outside for the start of the SHOCKDYNO heat race. On the start Danny got the lead and the win. The 02 of Gene Lasker had the pole for the BROWN & MILLER heat race, with Sport Allen in the 81 car on the outside. It was the 02 that made the better start and took the second heat win.  (more…)

Smooth Operator

Mother nature finally smiled on the Citrus County Speedway Saturday night. With the forecast showing a 60% chance of rain from 5pm on, many people were left looking to the sky. But the Citrus County Speedway seemed to have a bubble over top of it Saturday night, with rain all around the speedway through the afternoon. Wet roads could be found as little as a half mile in both directions from the speedway. The rains couldn’t keep the drivers away, as 96 cars registered to compete for the evening. (more…)
