Matt Kurtz has already broken into victory lane and hopes to return but it’ll be tough. Mark Whitener Dominates Scott Thompson Memorial At East Bay Raceway Park

April 28, 2012, Tampa, Fl – It was a night to remember as the 5th Annual Scott Thompson Memorial for Late Models raced for $3800 to win in a 50 lap feature event.

First feature of the night went to the Old Time Mods as they paid tribute to Tommy Zwally who was a tough competitor in the division. The missing man formation was formed before the start. When the green flag dropped it was Dan Darnell leading every lap picking up the win with Andy Kelly driving the 46 car of Zwally picking up second with Jamie Frankland, Gary Riccio and Everson rounding out the top five. After a lap 9 caution the race restarted but on lap 14 Bubba spun his #14 as JO Nobles was barreling down on him. Nobles dodged 4 more restarts in which Higginbotham and Forrest Gough assaulted the 18 but couldn’t make a pass. (more…)

Duke Makes it Two in a Row in Citrus Super Late Model Action

14 Street Stocks were all looking to knock Curtis Flanagan (3) off the mountain in their 20 lap feature. Flanagan has taken every feature win this season, but one, and he suffered a mechanical failure in that event. David Kingsbury (73) and Robert Kuhn Jr (92) would occupy the front row for the green flag. Kingsbury would jump out the early lead with 5th place starter John Chance (61) settling into 2nd in the opening laps. Kingsbury and Chance would attempt to put some distance on the rest of the field, knowing that Flanagan would be making his charge to the front. (more…)

The speedway staff did a great job of pumping water, drying the track and speedway owner Kevin Williams gave the ok to open up and lets go racing.

If you stayed home you missed out on the door to door fast and furious racing action that makes PGS the place to be on Sat nights. (more…)

Announcement from the Florida United Promoters late Model Series

With the announcement from Punta Gorda Speedway that they have cancelled racing this weekend, the Florida United Promoters Late Model Series would like to invite all the teams that were scheduled to run their 100 lap event to join the Series this Saturday at Desoto Super Speedway in Bradenton, FL. “Although the weather is threatening, we are going to do our best to get the race in” said Series Director Rick Williams.  “In turn, we are encouraging our series members to attend Punta Gorda Speedway on June 9th, the scheduled make-up date for their race.”

Round 4 of the FUPLMS has been restructured to include benefits such as $400 to start the race, $3000 to win and no mandatory tire or fuel purchase rule.  “We can make this a win-win for the fans, drivers, teams, and both tracks if the weather cooperates,” said Williams.
