Darrah Delivers for Outlaws at Williams Grove Summer Nationals

The Pennsylvania native picks up his first World of Outlaws feature win of the season

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – July 21, 2012 – Vindication. Atonement. Redemption.

Cody Darrah doesn’t mind what his performance on Saturday is called because he ended the night covered in confetti in Victory Lane. Darrah captured his first World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series feature win of the season at the 11th annual Summer Nationals at Williams Grove Speedway – site of his first career Outlaws victory in 2009.

Sandwiched between those signature wins at a home track located a little more than a half hour from where he grew up, Darrah’s life has been a roller coaster.

“It’s awesome to be back home and it’s even better to be on the frontstretch,” Darrah said. “I got my first World of Outlaws win at this race in 2009 back in my dad’s car. It’s been a long road since then. We’ve had struggles.” (more…)

The First Annual Florida State Modified Championship

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media 7-20-12

Ocala, FL – The Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, and the Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks put it all on the line and you may be surprised with the results

Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks started off with the Staats family and Kyle Kruse up front. On a lap 2 restart Kruse and “Charging” Charlie Staats made contact which eventually put both on the rear as Staats had to pit. Buddy Pope would receive the worst as contact with Staats ended his night. Travis Staats and Shirlene Hammond door slammed for the lead- Hammond would spin and retire with damage and Staats would be put to the tail. Nick Kerr, Zach Amundsen, and “Rockin” Reid Christensen would lead with 13 to go. (more…)

Outlaws Ready for Action at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55

Seven of the Top Eight World of Outlaws Have won at the High-Banked Track

PEVELY, Mo. – July 20, 2012 – It’s quickly become a signature event on the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series because of the fast-paced, action-packed racing at the high-banked, third-mile Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55.

“It’s always a big action track,” said Sammy Swindell, who has won at the track three times. “There’s usually a lot of cars running close together. It’s small enough that you never really get away from people, so it’s a tough race. If you’re not racing with somebody, you’re in traffic with somebody. You’ve got to be on your toes the whole time there.” (more…)

Jay Fogleman Breaks Through at Motor Mile for His First Win of 2012

Charlotte, NC 7/16/12– After dodging rain showers during the day’s practice session luck finally ran out on PASS South Series officials as showers came and washed out the afternoon’s qualifying session. This set up a rare occurrence for PASS South competitors to take the green based on current series points standings, and scraped the normal redraw of the top ten qualifiers to take the green flag. This put leader Brandon Ward on the pole with second place man Kyle Grissom to his outside for the initial start. Ward picked up right where he left off at Anderson two weeks earlier taking command of the lead on lap one. While it was Ward who took the lead young John Hunter Nemechek, son of NASCAR driver Joe Nemechek, was the car on the move through the first portion of the 150 lap event. (more…)

Florida State Modified Championship

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media 7-16-12

Ocala, FL – On Friday night the stars of the Scorpion Racing Products Modified ranks take to the clay as they look to be the best. The 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, and Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks will join them and entertain like no one else can.

Kyle Bronson dominated early but the last 5 features have had 5 different winners from 3 teams. Bronson has led in nearly every feature and 2 of his losses have come from mechanical failures. Bronson is a heavy favorite but Rich Pratt knows how to win the big money- he won last year’s One Last One For PJ Wiggins! Pratt will have to get back on track and also hold off Dalton Lanich. Lanich is very quiet but makes plenty of noise with his underfunded #77 from the Kent Corbin shop. (more…)

Rusty?

By- Jim Rouse, BRP Media  7-14-12

Ocala, FL – RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators went all out and some had reasons bigger than you would think.

Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models started the night off with a bang. Accidents started early when Steve Shead found himself going around in turn 1 as David Showers, Jr. and Paul Shead made contact that would end Paul’s night. Phil Cobb would lead after 1 in a tight battle with David Showers who would steal it from him on lap 3. Caution would fly moments later as Ricky Land spun in turn 4 and Tyler Clem, making just his 2nd start, spun to avoid. (more…)

Babb swapped the second position with defending DIRTcar Late Model National Champion Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Ill., throughout the middle stages of the 40-lap main event.

He then past Frank Heckenast Jr., of Frankfort, Ill., on a lap 37 restart to claim the win.

“I knew I had him because I rolled the top so good on the restart,” Babb said. “I had been having a little trouble up there because it was a little treacherous and you could jump it easy but on that last restart I hit it really good and it shot me down the backstretch.” (more…)
