Jimmy Owens Takes Whiskey City 50 at Lawrenceburg

LAWRENCEBURG, IN (August 25, 2012) – Reigning Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Champion, Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN picked up his fourth series win of the season on

Saturday Night. Owens led every lap in capturing the “Whiskey City 50” presented by Sign-A-Rama before a huge crowd at Lawrenceburg Speedway. Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN finished second, followed by John Blankenship of Williamson, WV.

Owens, who entered the event as the current series points’ leader, started on the outside of the front row and took the lead at the drop of the green flag. Eric Wells of Hazard, KY grabbed second for the first six laps behind Owens before yielding to Jared Landers of Batesville, AR.

Landers appeared early on to be the only car who could hang with Owens, but Blankenship powered to second position on lap 16 around Landers. By that point of the race, Owens had already built a sizable advantage over the field. Blankenship tried to make-up ground on Owens and was closing in on the leader when a caution for debris slowed the action for the first and only time during the race. (more…)

Wet Weather Forces Cancelation Of Saturday Night’s World of Outlaws Late Model Series Action At Winchester Speedway

WINCHESTER, VA – Aug. 25, 2012 – Wet weather forced the cancelation of Saturday night’s World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at Winchester Speedway.

With light rain arriving during the afternoon and a dire forecast calling for a large swath of heavier precipitation to soon overtake the area, Winchester promoter Greg Gunter made the decision to call off the program early in an effort to save fans and racers from traveling to the three-eighths-mile oval.

No suitable raindate for the Ernie D’s & Gunter’s Honey 50 is available on the WoO LMS schedule, so Gunter will look to the 2013 season to bring the national tour to Winchester.

Saturday’s rainout is the fourth of the 2012 WoO LMS season and the third event that was not rescheduled.

The WoO LMS moves on to Selinsgrove (Pa.) Speedway on Sunday evening (Aug. 26) for the Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling 50. The tour will visit the half-mile oval for the first time.

For more information on the WoO LMS, visit www.worldofoutlaws.com.

BELLEVILLE, IL – Aug. 24, 2012 – The World of Outlaws Late Model Series has added a date on Fri., Sept. 14, at Belle-Clair Speedway, setting up a big weekend doubleheader for fans in the St. Louis area.

EDMONTON, Alberta – Aug. 24, 2012 – It took Craig Dollansky a while to reach Victory Lane on a chilly Friday, but it didn’t take him long to start celebrating.

Dollansky released a loud roar as he climbed onto the back of his sprint car after leading all 30 laps on the opening night of the Sixth annual Oil City Cup at Castrol Raceway. It was his seventh World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory of the season and gives him a 35-point advantage in the championship standings.

Dollansky, who started the feature on the outside of the front row next to arguably the hottest driver in the country – Donny Schatz – powered to the lead on the opening lap. Kerry Madsen then got around Schatz, who had won four of the previous seven events, for second place at the flag stand on lap nine. (more…)

Pennsylvania Oval’s Top Winner Ready To Challenge National Stars On Home Turf

SELINSGROVE, PA – Aug. 24, 2012 – No one is more excited about the first-ever World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at Selinsgrove Speedway this Sunday night (Aug. 26) than Jeff Rine.

The historic track’s most prolific dirt Late Model winner has, after all, been waiting a long time to challenge a national tour’s superstar drivers on his home turf.

“We’ve gone to other tracks to run World of Outlaws shows over the years,” said Rine, 35, of Danville, Pa. “It’s gonna be real neat to have the Outlaws come to our track and see what we can do.”

A winner of seven points championships – including the last five in a row – and a record 77 career dirt Late Model features at Selinsgrove, Rine would love to reach Victory Lane in the richest dirt Late Model race ever contested at the sprawling half-mile oval. CALE GALE’S NIGHT CUT SHORT AFTER EARNING FIRST CAREER POLE AT BRISTOL

Cale Gale and the No. 33 Rheem team had a day full of ups and downs on Wednesday at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway (“World’s Fastest Half-Mile”).  The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender nabbed his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) pole to lead the field to the green, but finished the race with a trip to the infield care center after making hard contact with the inside wall with just seven laps remaining.

With a fast truck, Gale paced most of the opening practice session and posted speeds inside the top 10 throughout final practice on Wednesday afternoon.  A few hours later, Gale strapped in the truck and ran a 15.656-second lap-his quickest of the day-to secure the pole position at the World’s Fastest Half-Mile.

Wednesday’s NCWTS event was the debut of a new track configuration at Bristol Motor Speedway where the upper groove was removed.  As a result, passing became more challenging than it had been in years past.  Gale decided to lead the field to the green from the outside line, but when the No. 17 truck got a good jump off the start, Gale quickly settled into the second position.
