J-MAC DOES IT AGAIN WITH NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS WIN AT THE MAG

COLUMBUS, MS – Justin McRee of Cottondale, MS won the Black Ice 40 for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division on Sunday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway.  It was the third win of the season for J-Mac, and his second in as many nights driving the High Roller Race Cars Special.

McRee held off a mid-race challenge from two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN, who took his Eads Farms/Hardy & Associates Warrior to the high side, and passed McRee for the lead on lap 21.  McRee took back the lead one lap later, went to the high side of the track, and checked out on the field.

“We checked out early running the bottom of the track, but when I saw David Earl up on the high side, I knew it was time to get up there,” McRee said.  “That’s where I need to be anyway because this is a High Roller Race Car that we built in our shop.  We’ve been working with it all season, and I think we’ve got it where we want it.  The next phase is to build some to sell.  This car is for sale.”  (more…)

Naturally! Dale Planck, “the Natural,” captures DIRTcar 358-Modified Series at Cornwall Motor Speedway

Cornwall, Ontario – Sunday, September 2, 2012 – Martin Bélanger, Cornwall Motor Speedway PR Director – A new driver visited the winners circle in round number five of the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series at Cornwall Motor Speedway as Dale Plank charged ahead of the competition to victory.

Matt Billings and Kyle Dingwall were on the front row on the initial green and Dingwall became the early leader. The new Brockville track champion led the first 14 laps as Billings took a restart opportunity to grab the first position, Planck jumping to second and aiming for the lead as leaders approached heavy traffic. Planck used these conditions to take the lead on lap 26.

While Planck was building momentum, Danny O’Brien and Carey Terrance made their way to the front, both breaking the top 5 just before the halfway point. O’Brien moved up to second on lap 58 using the top side and got closer to Planck as the feature got closer to the lap 75 mandatory pit stop caution. (more…)

Mike Marlar From Last to First in Winning Hillbilly 100 at I-77 Raceway Park

RIPLEY, WV (September 2, 2012) – Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN stormed from the 24th and last starting position to win the 44th Annual Hillbilly 100 on Sunday Night at I-77 Raceway Park. Marlar, who won the race in 2004, took the lead on lap 77 from Don O’Neal and then pulled away for the $25,000 victory in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned event.

Marlar made the race by a LOLMDS provisional, and did not know he was in the starting line-up until five minutes before the cars rolled out on the race track. “I have to thank the Lord, it wasn’t a good day for us, we just found out we were in the race right before the grid rolled out on the race track. We bolted on the softest tire we could per the rules,” said Marlar.

O’Neal led the first 76 laps, most of it unchallenged until Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC; Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA; and Marlar caught up to O’Neal as O’Neal’s car started to get loose.

Marlar’s charge to the lead was dramatic as he passed Cook for second on lap 73. Marlar then quickly ran down O’Neal coming off of turn four as 77th lap was scored. Marlar had to wait through two cautions in the final 15 laps to take the victory. (more…)

Gressman survives wild UNOH All Star event to tame Attica

ATTICA, OH (9-1-12) By Brian Liskai – It was a wild and wacky finish to the 2012 season at Attica Raceway Park Saturday. And when the rain started falling it was Fremont, Ohio s Phil Gressman who was standing in victory lane for his fifth career University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car win.

The night started with a two hour rain delay. As officials pushed the show rapidly along, it appeared the 40-lap feature on Baumann Auto Group Night would be exciting. It turned into an event-filled race with five red flags and four cautions. And just when it looked like Dean Jacobs would earn the victory after leading the first 36 laps, he either ran out of fuel or suffered some other mechanical woe, handing the lead to Gressman. Gressman had to fend off Danny Holtgraver the final four circuits to score his 7th career Attica victory.

For Gressman, who destroyed a car a few weeks ago battling up front at Attica, it was his first win of the season. The UNOH All Star win is his first since 2004, with all five of his career series victories coming at different tracks. (more…)

Boggs Brilliant in Pepsi River Days Rumble Win at Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, OH (September 1, 2012) – Jackie Boggs of Grayson, KY led all the way as he went on to win the Pepsi 50 River Days Rumble on Saturday Night at Portsmouth Raceway Park. For Boggs, it was his second career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win as he beat Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN and 17th starting John Blankenship of Williamson, WV to the finish line. He scored $10,000 for the victory.

Boggs was virtually unchallenged the entire distance as he thrilled his home-track fans with the victory in the annual event. The win was Boggs’ sixth this year at PRP, where he is a two-time track champion.

“Not bad for a car that has parts about ten years old on it,” said the second-generation driver, “we should have won last night, but didn’t, but I would have much rather won this one,” said Boggs who was leading Friday Night’s $7,000 to win event until he lost a wheel.

“The car was fast and to beat Scott (Bloomquist), I don’t know what to say, he and my dad (the late Jack Boggs) wouldn’t tell each other the truth on race set-ups, but I have shared info with him and I beat him tonight. It feels great,” said the 43-year-old racer whose lone career LOLMDS came in 2005 at Charlotte, NC. (more…)
