No Slowing Down for Grissom as he Wins His Fifth PASS South Series Event This Season Making History Along the Way

Charlotte, NC 9/3/12- It’s hard to believe that a driver in his rookie season in a series as tough as the PASS South super late model series would be rewriting history books, but that’s exactly what Kyle Grissom has done so far in 2012. Grissom, from nearby Concord, North Carolina, made it three wins in a row Saturday night at the Caraway Speedway in Sophia, North Carolina. Grissom’s win was his fifth of the year, breaking the record for most wins in a single season by a PASS South Series driver previously held by Ben Rowe who won four events in 2009 in route to the series championship that same season.

“This one wasn’t easy tonight. Jay Fogleman did everything he could except wreck me to try to get the win tonight, I was just fortunate to get a good jump on that final restart and bring it back around to the finish,” stated Grissom in victory lane. “If it had been anyone else racing me that hard other than Jay I would have probably ended up with a wrecked racecar.” (more…)

Madsen Claims Inaugural World of Outlaws Race at Willamette Speedway

He leads all 30 laps for his second victory in the last three races and fifth this season

LEBANON, Ore. – Sept. 3, 2012 – Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi, Oi, Oi!

For the second time in the last three World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series events, Australian Kerry Madsen emerged in Victory Lane with a big smile on his face. On Monday, Madsen led all 30 laps to claim the inaugural Outlaws race at Willamette Speedway.

“We’re definitely clicking and we’re taking advantage of our opportunities,” he said. “We’ve had some great draws. It looks easy when guys do that, but it’s hard. You have to have everything right and get the opportunity, and then when the opportunity presents itself you have to seize it. It’s hard to do with the World of Outlaws.”

In the only World of Outlaws event this season in Oregon, Madsen outlasted Donny Schatz in a race that featured only two cautions, tough traffic and one angry Sammy Swindell.

After driving around polesitter Jonathan Allard for the lead to complete the first lap, Madsen entered traffic as he exited turn two on the sixth lap. However, by the time he was in turn three, the red flag was out following a collision between Allard and Swindell. (more…)

Team GDT Baltimore Race Report

BALTIMORE, Sept. 3 — Rounds 13 and 14 of the 2012 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear on Saturday and Sunday were challenging for a number of reasons, and Team GDT left the Grand Prix of Baltimore presented by SRT with mixed results.

Ryan Tveter of Oyster Bay, N.Y. posted the best finish for the Dallas-based team this weekend when he turned an 18th-place starting spot into a tenth-place finish in Saturday’s race on the temporary street course at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.

Both Tveter and his teammate, Andres Méndez, also had 12th-place finishes here, as Méndez finished 12th on Saturday and Tveter placed 12th on Sunday.

Méndez, of Bogotá, Colombia, only completed one lap of Sunday’s race bcfore he was hit in the rear by another competitor in the chicane and was launched into the wall. He ended up 18th in the final rundown for that race.

The whole weekend was complicated. (more…)

The Fight For First

Jim Rouse, BRP Media, 9-3-12 Ocala, FL – As we begin the 7th month of our 9 month points-paying season at Bubba Raceway Park we have a spectacular show in store. The Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators will not only run their regular events but they will make up the rained-out features from mid-July. These races will be run in the sequence of Feature-Heat-Feature. Joining these 3 exciting divisions will be the Powder Puff Derby and the Demolition Derby!

So, after 6 months of racing Rodney Wright has a 32 point advantage over Trevor Gamble. They’ve had 16 features; how much closer can you get? Mike Stalnaker has been masterful with his under-powered equipment and a win is just around the corner and no one will be surprised. In 4th is Mark Maresca who, up until his last race, had been flying under the radar. Last time he was flying up front until he barrel-rolled the 77M. In 5th is Hunter Gustafson who has shown determination and improvement in his #15. Though the title contenders are very strong, he could find Coors Light Winner’s Circle and will be a massive threat for the title in 2013. (more…)

Matt Sheppard Gets His Third Super DIRTcar Series Win of Season at Rolling Wheels

Hearn’s Last-Lap Challenges Prove Futile Against Series Point Leader

ELBRIDGE, N. Y. – September 3, 2012 – At lap 99 it could have been anyone’s race, but faster than any bird or plane “Super” Matt Sheppard charged through the turns at “The Fast Track” to win over Brett Hearn by a margin of 0.527 seconds.

Sheppard, who won the annual Stars and Stripes 100 at Rolling Wheels two years in a row, grabbed the lead in lap 67 and seemed to be rocketing toward another victory until the yellow flag flew with one lap to go, putting a suspenseful pause to the racing. Hearn in hot pursuit from second revved his engine and doggedly chased Sheppard’s JB Motorsports 9s FX Caprara Car Co./Xtreme Lubricants/Bicknell machine through the green-white-checkered finish, but came up short.

Celebrating his second 2012 Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Series win at Rolling Wheels Raceway, his third series victory of the 2012 season, and just coming off of receiving the track championship at Canandaigua Motorsports Park, the Super DIRTcar Series point leader has yet to encounter his kryptonite.

“It’s always good when you win,” Sheppard said. “Our car was good. We just worked it wherever we needed to.” (more…)

Neumann out duels Grossenbacher for the win at Citrus County Speedway

17 Super Late Models were lead to the green with Dale Sanders (1) and Scott Grossenbacher (09) on the front row. Grossenbacher would take control of the top spot from his outside front row starting position just two laps in to the race. Sanders would settle into second, with Herb Neumann Jr (98) moving quickly to third. The first of three cautions would fly at lap 5 for contact between Drew Brannon (82) and George Gorham Jr (10). Gorham would go for a spin, but Brannon would take blame for the incident, and tag the rear for the restart. Grossenbacher paced the field on the restart, while Neumann went to work on Sanders for 2nd at the drop of the green. Neumann would find his way by Sanders for 2nd, and set his sights on the leader. Lap 10 saw the nights second caution for a three car incident in turn three. Amanda Ferguson (7) made and aggressive inside three wide pass attempt on the entry to the corner. All three drivers quickly ran out of room, sending fiberglass flying. (more…)

Continued Rain Forces Postponement of DuQuoin Event

(DUQUOIN, Ill.) – Continued rain in southern Illinois, a remnant of Hurricane Isaac’s progression through the Midwestern United States, has forced ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards officials to postpone today’s Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.

Though light, the system circling the region has been consistent enough to leave the mile-long dirt track and surrounding fairgrounds unsuitable not only for racing, but also for the related activity of race teams, officials, emergency vehicles, fans, and more. Seven inches of precipitation have fallen over the area in the past three days.

Officials had expected dry conditions Monday and made the preemptive decision to push the day’s schedule back three hours to allow the track to dry, but the rain continued. (more…)
