Marlar Makes Quick Work of Knoxville Field on Friday Night

KNOXVILLE, IA (September 28, 2012) – Scoring his first career win at Knoxville Raceway, Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN completed a 25-lap journey to the checkered flag, leading all the way. Marlar, who started third in the event, bolted to the lead on the opening circuit and never looked back in taking his second Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event of the season.

Steve Francis of Ashland, KY came home in second followed by Brady Smith of Solon Springs, WI; Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN; and Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA.

“I have to thank Norman Bryson for giving me this opportunity to drive his race car, we won the Hillbilly 100 after starting last and to come here tonight and win at Knoxville, it’s sweet, it is one of the historic tracks in racing and to bring this Rocket Chassis to victory lane here is something I will never forget.”

“The car took off great at the start, it felt like it kind of slowed down there a little bit at the end, but I guess I had a big enough of a lead, that it didn’t really matter, but it is something to work on for tomorrow night’s 100-lapper,” said the 34-year-old racer. “I have to thank my sponsors SEG, LLC, Keyser Mfg, Integra Shocks, VP Fuels, GW Performance, Clements Race Engines and the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption for all of their support.”

Francis, who finished third on Thursday Night, finished one spot higher in Friday’s preliminary to set-up a good starting spot for Saturday’s $40,000 to win finale. “We have really run well here this week, there are a few things we need to tweak on the car to get it to turn better, it’s Barry’s (Wright) birthday today and I was hoping to bring home a victory for him said the driver of the Valvoline, Barry Wright Race Cars Chevrolet. McMahan Tops Opening Night of 50th annual National Open

Hodnett second for his fourth podium in as many Outlaws races at Williams Grove

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Sept. 28, 2012 – Paul McMahan is not an Outlaw, nor is he Posse.

“I’m just a kid from California making a living,” he said.

McMahan did just that on a cool Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway, where he claimed the opening night of the 50th annual National Open. The victory was his second World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series win of the season and sends him into Saturday’s $50,000-to-win event as a favorite.

“It’s just a phenomenal night for me,” he said. “To win at Williams Grove is the coolest thing ever.”

While McMahan was strong from the first lap, polesitter Kerry Madsen was the driver to beat. Madsen powered to the lead with McMahan working from fourth to second before the backstretch on lap two.

Stevie Smith passed McMahan for the runner-up position in turn four on lap seven before they entered traffic on lap 11. One lap later, McMahan returned the pass with a slide job for second place in turn four. Greg Hodnett maneuvered past Smith for third place on the ensuing lap. (more…)

Outlaws Bring Title Battle to Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55

Federated Auto Parts Ironman 55 and Spring Classic doubleheader held on Oct. 13

PEVELY, Mo. – Sept. 26, 2012 – Fingers are crossed that the third time is the charm.

Weather has claimed each of the previous two attempts at a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 this season, which has postponed both races to a unique doubleheader on Saturday, Oct. 13.

The Federated Auto Parts Ironman 55 presented by Summit Distributing/Coors Light, which only has the 55-lap feature remaining in its program, will take place at approximately 3 p.m. with the front gate opening at 1 p.m.  The stands will be cleared following that event and reopened for the Spring Classic event in the evening.

“It’s going to be really different because I-55 can be pretty demanding as it is,” Chad Kemenah said. “You’ll probably want to be pretty good and rested come that weekend.”

On Aug. 3, Kerry Madsen won the dash to earn the pole for the Federated Auto Parts Ironman 55. However, as the cars were staged on the track for the feature, a severe storm struck the facility. The spectators and teams were urged to seek shelter as the main event was postponed. (more…)

Series Newcomer Trevor Noles Best Field in CCS Super Limited Action at Hickory

Graham, NC 9/24/12– Trevor Noles of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina picked up his first career CCS Super Limited win in just his second start Saturday night at the Hickory Motor Speedway in front of a healthy crowd in the grandstands and an even healthier field of racecars. Noles had to hold on to the lead on a lap forty-seven restart that set up several hardnosed battles in the sprint to the checkered flag just three laps later.

In victory lane Noles explained how he couldn’t believe he and his Coulter Motorsports race team were already in victory lane in the toughest field of cars the series has seen thus far in 2012.

“This is just amazing to be in the winner’s circle in just our second start with CCS. I was worried at the end when we kept having those cautions allowing the guys behind me to close the lead I had built up, but Randy Renfrow gave us a fast car and we just pulled away from everyone at the end,” said an excited Noles. “I started a little deeper in the field than I would have liked, and then it took us a while to get going with all those cautions. Once we finally got going and got around that #5 car I was able to open a lead and hold on for the win.” (more…)

Nine Illinois Drivers Invade ARCA for 60th Southern Illinois 100 at DuQuoin Dirt

Kovski, Cooksey Comment on Late Season October 14 Fall Affair

(TOLEDO, Ohio) – The interest from the Illinois locals is still steady and strong as the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards steers back towards the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds for the 60th running of the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care Sunday afternoon, October 14.  Originally scheduled for Labor Day, the renowned stock car classic was rained out and rescheduled much deeper in the ARCA season, right in front of the season finale at Kansas Speedway October 19.  Currently, nine drivers from Illinois are entered at DuQuoin, including Springfield’s Kelly Kovski, who’s searching for his career-first win on the one-mile fairgrounds oval.

Kovski likes the idea of running during the cooler fall season rather than in the oppressive heat of late summer.  “The track’s going to be different going back in the fall, and I think that will provide an opportunity for a guy like me,” Kovski said.  “That’s the fun of dirt track racing, keeping up with the changing track conditions, and being able to read it right.  “Ken Schrader always told me (about running the ARCA dirt tracks), ‘you don’t know what you have until the race is over,’ and it’s the truth. So you come back each year and hope you took good notes from last year.  “I’m going back with a little different state of mind – set up-wise. I’m not running for points, so I’ve got nothing to lose, so I can gamble and get outside the box a little.”  Kovski’s career-best ARCA finishes were a pair of fourth-place runs at DuQuoin in 2011 and most recently on the Springfield mile dirt in late August. MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Sept. 24, 2012 – Donny Schatz continues to step closer to his fifth World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship as the tour wraps up its season against the Pennsylvania Posse this weekend.

The World of Outlaws hold the edge on the Posse this season with Cody Darrah winning the Summer Nationals in July after Outlaws great Steve Kinser and Posse veteran Fred Rahmer split the opening weekend in May. Kinser also claimed the prestigious Morgan Cup for the Outlaws.
