Blaney Beats Attrition at PEAK Motor Oil World Finals Presented by NAPA

Schatz crowned with his fifth World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship

CONCORD, N.C. – Nov. 3, 2012 – The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series finished the season with a bang. And a smash. And a clank.

In front of packed grandstands and a television audience on SPEED, Donny Schatz claimed his fifth championship on Saturday evening at the Sixth annual PEAK Motor Oil World of Outlaws World Finals Presented by NAPA Auto Parts. However, Schatz’s season ended in a wreck as he was one of seven drivers who either crashed or sustained an issue while racing in the top 10 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

A night after a flat tire ended his night while competing for the win, Dale Blaney survived the attrition to record his second Outlaws victory of the season.

“The last race of the year, to win down here in front of this crowd and everything, it’s pretty cool,” he said. “We had a little bit of luck … but our car was really good. I’ve got a little bit of talent, but a lot of luck is a lot better.” (more…)

Keith Nosbisch Makes It A Three Wins In A Row For The Late Models

November 3, 2012 – Tampa, FL – Late Models, East Bay Sprints, Street Stocks and Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers were on hand tonight to compete and try to gain points as the season is winding down.

The first feature of the night went to Street Stocks. Jarod Gay, Eric Moon and Dennis Wilson, Jr. won their heat races. For the feature it was Wilson, Jr. and Moon making up the front row.  Moon led the initial green flag, but on the next lap Thomas Burnside would spin on the front stretch and everyone was able to avoid him. Caution came out once again on lap four as Donnie Reed slowed down in turn two, Moon was still your leader. Several more cautions came out but was to no avail as Eric Moon went on to pick up his six feature win of the season extending his lead over Donnie Reed. Gay, Wilson, Jr., Dorsey Strickland and Burside after that spin on the first lap came back to finish in the fifth position.

Next up were the East Bay Sprints. Danny Martin, Jr. and Sport Allen won their heats and also made up the front row for the feature. On the drop of the green, Martin, Jr. took to the high side and led the field with Sport Allen right behind him. But on the start it was Kyle Pitts hitting the wall and making for a complete restart. Martin, Jr. once again took to the high side and led the field with Allen once again in tow.  On lap four driving a brand new car, Allen went up in smoke coming out of turn two and ending his night. Martin, Jr. led the entire race never looking back and picking up another feature win for the 2012 Season. Billy Boyd, Jr., Kerry Gilbert, Tony Agin and Robbie Smith rounded out the top five. Hearn Caps off Stunning Season with Finale Victory

PEAK World Finals presented by NAPA adds another big race to Hearn’s list of wins for 2012

CONCORD, N. C – November 4, 2012 – Brett Hearn’s performance late in the 2012 Super DIRTcar Series season has been anything but anticlimactic. He capped off a stunning season Saturday, Nov. 3, with a victory in the series finale during PEAK Motor Oils World of Outlaws World Finals presented by NAPA Auto Parts at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

Hearn’s season went from good to great in August after returning from an illness-related two-race hiatus to start 23rd in the field and charge to the win at Lebanon Valley Speedway for Mr. DIRT Track U. S. A. From then on it kept improving, with his sixth VP Small Engine Fuels victory at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, a win in Orange County Fair Speedway’s Eastern States 200, and this most recent victory takes Hearn’s great season to another level.

“We worked hard to get here,” said Hearn, of Sussex, N. J. “I’ve wanted to win this race for quite a while, for the last few years we’ve been coming here.”

Drawing the fourth spot on the starting grid, Hearn was in a good position to earn a strong finish. However, the competition was tough, with multi-time Australian V8 Modified National Champion Peter Britten starting on the pole, Jimmy Phelps, second in points, starting second, and two-time series champion Matt Sheppard starting third. Points Taken

Jim Rouse, BRP Media 11-3-12 (Ocala, FL) – The RaceCar Engineering Late Models, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks, Rent-N-Roll Gladiators, and Bubba Army Figure-8 Series opened up the final month of points racing with a bang. Championships are winding down but some are just getting started.

First up were the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Limited Late Models who saw David “Big Chief” Showers lead lap 1 from pole. JO Nobles, however, would take the lead on lap 5 as the leaders maneuvered through lapped traffic. On lap 10 Jason Pope made contact with Matt Johnson (Johnson was being lapped) and it sent Johnson straight into the front stretch wall. Driver #96 was okay after the impact. A melee started when Cory Hupp spun in front of Billy Holmes, Shane Koperda, Cox, CJ Waldron, Carter Stokes, and Blaise Hetznecker in turn 4 on the restart. All would continue as Nobles led Showers and Forrest Gough up front. Nobles got caught in traffic but held on by a car length or so for his 11th win of 2012. David Showers finished 2nd with Ronnie Soltis 3rd. Tyler Clem took a career best 4th as he ran top 5 all day and beat Christian McGillivray who is 4 years his older.

The Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks went out 2nd and Nick Kerr was able to put on a fight with his good friend Buddy Pope. Kerr would lead from pole with Pope and Reid Christensen in tow. As the race progressed the gap fluctuated but in the end Nick Kerr took home the big win, his 3rd of 2012. Pope finished a strong 2nd while Christensen finished 3rd. (more…)

Tennessee Driver Becomes Winningest Driver In History Of Season-Ending Event At The Dirt Track At Charlotte

CONCORD, NC – Nov. 2, 2012 – Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., became the winningest driver in the six-year history of the PEAK Motor Oil World of Outlaws World Finals Presented by NAPA Auto Parts with a hard-fought victory in Friday night’s 50-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series A-Main at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

Owens, 40, advanced from the ninth starting spot to run third behind Rick Eckert of York, Pa., and Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., by lap nine. He battled with the WoO LMS regulars until overtaking Lanigan for second on lap 27 and Eckert for the lead on lap 30.

Swindell Snags Win at Sixth annual PEAK Motor Oil World Finals Presented by NAPA

His 13th World of Outlaws feature victory secures the winningest driver title this season

CONCORD, N.C. – Nov. 2, 2012 – Sammy Swindell rated his feature performance slightly higher than his postrace celebration at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

However, both his late-race pass and postrace donuts in turn four provoked the spectators in the packed grandstands to their feet on a brisk Friday evening at the Sixth annual PEAK Motor Oil World of Outlaws World Finals Presented by NAPA Auto Parts.

Swindell earned his 13th feature victory to wrap up the title as the winningest driver this season on the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series when he dove under Brian Brown in turns three and four coming to the white flag. The move allowed Swindell to pull away after the duo battled side by side for the previous two laps.

“I just tried to stay calm and stay patient, just make sure I didn’t overdrive the car, the tires, and that’s what paid off,” Swindell said. “It was all about conserving. There at the end I knew that we were in better shape, so it was just go for it. It took me a little bit to get it accomplished, but all I needed was room to get by.”

The maneuver pumped up Swindell, who concluded the entertainment after a cool-down lap with approximately a half-dozen donuts only a few feet from where he made the race-winning pass. While the fans were thrilled, Swindell said he needed to work on his finish after the engine stalled when he tried to end the celebration. (more…)

CONCORD, N. C – November 2, 2012 – After a suspenseful 40 laps at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, with leaders often racing side-by-side through the turns of the 4/10-mile track, Tim Fuller beat off challengers Tim McCreadie and Brett Hearn to win the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified A-Feature Friday, Nov. 2, during PEAK Motor Oil World of Outlaws World Finals presented by NAPA Auto Parts.

Hearn, Phelps Vying for Top Spots in Final Rounds of Super DIRTcar Series Season

Competitors prep for series finales during PEAK Motor Oil World of Outlaws World Finals presented by NAPA Auto Parts

CONCORD, N. C. – Nov. 1, 2013 – Anything can happen come race night.

The mantra rings true for any Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Series event, but, reeling from Kellogg’s Qualifying Night on Thursday at the PEAK Motor Oil World of Outlaws World Finals Presented by NAPA Auto Parts and going into Friday’s and Saturday’s feature events, the Modified pits more than ever exude the tension the saying expresses.

The Big-Block Modifieds of the Super DIRTcar Series, along with the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars and the World of Outlaws Late Models, took on The Dirt Track at Charlotte for preliminary events leading to each series’ season finale. Super DIRTcar Series teams completed most of their qualifying events, including timed hot lap sessions and heat races, for both upcoming features, which take place Friday and Saturday. Race day B-Features and redraws will complete the starting grid for each A-Feature.

The stakes are high as competitors prepare for the last two races of the season. More than 300 series points are on the line the next two days, and Jimmy Phelps, currently second in points, hopes a good starting spot can help him win an ample portion of those points. (more…)
